Phosphorus breakthrough near

E. coli bacteria has been hogging the headlines.

It's in the news whenever there's a sewage spill or beach closing, and the contamination of raw spinach was a national drama.

But phosphorus, a nutrient in everything from sewage to manure to lawn fertilizer, doesn't get as much play.
