  1. 5 for 5 all in 90-93 FOW

    What worked

DW super hot Michigan dolphin 2 fish 86, 83 down on riggers in 90 FOW

Micheal Jackson 85 down on a rigger in 93 FOW

White/pink dots DW 85 down on a rigger

Blue Thunder mag spoon 85 down on rigger in 90 FOW

    What did not work

Anything above 10 foot off the bottom

    Someone help me out here...

Full core = 40-50 feet down or so

3 oz dive bomb should be about 30.... how on gods earth did I catch zebra muscles in 90 FOW

The only thing I came up with was my speed of 2.0 was not enough to keep the dive bomb from dragging the spoon on the bottom. I put it 3 colors in, maybe I should go 6 or 7 next time?

  2. I picked up a couple extra rod holders and am thinking of adding some divers to the boat. Since I HATE wire divers, I was thinking of running one braid diver with a Dipsy and trying a diver from http://www.torpedodivers.com/ on the other side.

Has anyone run the directional divers they make. I picked one up but have not had it out yet.

    Any feedback?

  3. Talked to the boat shop this morning about the motor. He said that the year (90) and type of motor is not meant to run under 1000 RPMs.

He said if anything put some cleaner in the gas tank and run the crap out of it a couple times. He said if its running fine in the 1200-1500 range everything should be pretty good inside the motor.

  4. Fished Holland this morning with the new boat (Scooby Snacks). Hit the launch around 5:30 and off we went.

Set up in 50 FOW and Marked fish for the first 2 hours or so with nothing going.

After I started to eat breakfast the 5 color on the inside board starts to scream and a fish comes flying out of the water ......

Needless to say after a good fight and we get the fish to the side of the boat and the boat stalls... hooks pop out when my buddy face plants the fish with the net. .... OH WELL!!

Trolled around for a couple more hours ....

Had some speed control issues mostly...(see rigging forum if you can help)

Only hit came on a mag bloody nose glow spoon on a five color

  5. So ... here is my post from MS

    ...

The Biggest problem we had was getting the boat to troll down nice

it would start stalling out under 1000 RPMS... we did not have a GPS on board, but I think we were on the top end of 2-4 MPH, but not sure.. when we would run it at 1200 RPMs it just seemed like we were going WAY to fast.

I was wondering what I should do...

Trolling bags and run it at 1200 RPS because it was doing fine then?

  6. So the boat rigging continues...

Picked up 2 eagle claw rods with some Penn reels today 40 dollars for 2 set ups;) Not the best, but it will get the job done.

Put the 2 Cannon riggers on the boat as well (came with boat) and even put them rigger rods in the holders... ;)

  7. So in knowing I am leaving to pick the boat up in less than an hour.....I am exited and I am not going to lie.

Is there a Coast guard check list floating around?? Should I just stop or call the coasties to find out what they check when and if I was ever to get stopped. Plan number one is to get everything "Legal" when I get home.

A good old stop at the SOS office and then to the insurance fella is planned, But I was just looking for a list of stuff that is needed on the boat

    Life jackets

    Flares

    Horn

    ECT.

  8. I have been saving away fro the past 2 years and the time has come!!!

I bought a boat, (Mostly so my older father in law can still get out and fish)

Now comes the fun of rigging it:)

Anyone with extra gear they are looking to sell let me know..

    Looking for:

    Rod holders

    2 rigger rods

    2 dipsey rods

    2-4 core rods

and just about anything else under the sun:)

  9. your right most guys do not follow the rules... I have a big flag.. extra lights.... and if it gets to bad a goby slingshot!:)

So I finally got some time to work on the boat today free of distractions.

I was not sure if i wanted to mount the rod holders on the boat by myself so I mounted them to the crate (now just to secure the crate).

Still need to make some leashes for the rods and such, and give it a test run...

  10. So here is the deal...

I am not going to lie that half the fun is fishing the big lake in the kayak.

other boats or not, I have all the saftey gear as well as am visible 360 degrees.

If one of the big boats runs me down then it was my time to go but karma is a bad bad thing.

Now saying that.. I am not stupid enough to be in front of the heads during the weeknds, as well as to be trolling the channel on the weeknds.

I plan on staying to the N or S of the pier heads other then to get out.

It comes down to the law really... Kayaks have the right of way. If someone runs me down they coastguard/sheriff will know the boat name and description. Welcome to felonious assault charges.

  11. I am all about trying it in GH this year boats or no... I am going to try a bit of everything and going to land a big king. If you see me out there feel free to wave and say hi...

BTW I can fit the kings on the boat a 14 foot kayak has alot of room;)

  12. So some of you might know me from the pier forums, but I have upgraded.....

    to a kayak;)

How does everyone do on tots on the skinny water .. IE 40 FOW or closer, Not sure if i want to go out much past that.

I know they work around the pier heads but should I stick with that a bit farther out or use spoons/j plugs?
