  1. Leadcore is a type of line that has a center piece of lead (acts like a sinker) wrapped by a sheath to give it some strength. Highly productive. Most people run it off planer boards (church's walleye is very popular for this) or straight out the back (down the chute) of the boat. The line is color coded every 10 yds to make it easier to tell how much you have out. A full core is 10 colors/half core is 5. Most use 27lb core but a few use the 18. The sink rate for the 27lb is about 4 to 5 ft per color depending on your speed. Higher speed slower sink rate.

  2. The way I used to tie my flies is to hold the line at the length you want you leader to be and then fold the line back over itself and use the loop (just big enough for the treble or single hook to fit through) it creates to tie a half hitch. Clip the remaining end off. Attach the fly to the flasher by running the loop through the swivel and then the fly and hook through the loop and pull tight. What I have done lately is to tie them direct because I have gotten to a point where I have a couple of each of my favorite spinnies and I use them more as a set rather than change out the fly.

  3. Welcome to the site Tailwalker. I fish out of Holland most of the summer on my 21' Chris Craft. If you need any advice over here feel free to get in touch with me. Fish most Saturdays and usually one night a week. I too am new to the site and have found it very helpful.

  4. I am going to be fishing in a tournament in a couple weeks and finally remembered to save enough vacation to Pre-fish. I have the Saturday and Sunday before as well as the Thursday and Friday before the tournament available. Would it be better to fish one area on those days or to fish multiple areas i.e. on day North the next south.

Thanks for all the advice in advance,

    Mike

  5. Fished 100 to 150 fow half way between Holland and Port Sheldon. Ended up 14 fpr 23 or 24. Hot bait was an 11" pro-chip with an Oceana fly with razor sharp hook (see previous post). Moonshine Blue flounder also was good as well as the double trouble. Black spinnes and purple mirage fly took a couple as well. Rigger at 45, 55, and 65, full core and dipsies back 180 and 150.

  6. Started on a northwest throll about 2 miles north of holland in 90ft. First fish hit in about 115 with the second as we put the first in the cooler. Didn't hit another fish until we got to 140ft of water and finished 5/10 staying in the 135 to 150 fow range. Mountain dew spin doctor with a yeck mountain dew glow fly 180 back on 3 was the most consistant going 2/4, with the blue chilly willy and a 11" pro chip with an oceana rapture fly also taking a pair of hits. Only one fish hit the full core which we lost. Sharpen your hooks. A dull hook on the oceana fly probably cost me 2 fish tonight.
