  1. Sorry to hear it Caz i know what your going through, i just had to put my best

"buddy" down after 16yrs. It's like losing one of the family. And another one

will never replace the one you lost. But sometimes it's better for the animal,

no matter how we want it to be....Keep your "chin" up man.

  2. I just finished spooling up two MA45DX reels with my first leadcore ever. I set up a 2 color SWR on a 8 ft downrigger rod, and a 8 color with a 6-1/2 foot Okuma medium action rod. I used 150 yds of 30# Spider Wire Braid as backer for the 8 color and 25# Ande as backer for the 2 color. Both have 50 ft leaders. I used the overhand knot, and stuff the mono or braid into the leadcore shield, to make the splices. I don't think I could make these splices on the boat. I may expand the use of that 2 color rig, this Spring for Walleye off the boards.

Cazz's thread on SWRs got me thinking about leadcore. I got a lot of good advice from some of the GR8 Charter Captains and GR8 members willing to share. TY all VM. I have an extra 10 colors of core in case I need to replaces some that gets cut off. If it goes well for me I may just spool up another reel. Three rods dedicated to core will probably be my limit. I think core will be like Dipsys, you either love it or hate it. Just for the record, "you know I'm a Dipsy man".:)

Well were both in the same boat this yr Frank this will be my first summer for core.I always had it on board but never had to use it, and for me i will not reel it in with a fish on, i'll leave that to the young folk:grin: Plus i have a few secret weapons this yr i'll hook up with you and give you a rig to try.... Tight lines and Bent Rods
  3. Shallow is good over here in central lake erie along the shoreline in the spring. 15-25 foot may thru june, thats when I run my other secret weapon. A diving body bait with no hooks and a 3 foot leader tied to the front hook ring of the lure with a stinger scorpion. very deadly..:D
I usually run something similiar but i still use the Big Jon mini disc.. And it is deadly....

    :skull:

  4. I got the majority of my eye's over 68-70 fow, usually down 35-45 with dipsey's being the way to go. The hot lure till mid july were the MI Stingers in oil slick chicken wing, monkey puke, and superman. After about mid July I switched over to a larger watermelon, metallic spoon. And we couldn't keep them off the things!

Of course I always have 1 firetiger worm harness out there behind a big dipsey on "0" setting 35' back on the reels line counter. so figure 8' leader and 35' from the reel, right in the prop wash, the walleye like it there for some reason. And when one of them hits it it a beutiful site seeing that rod start dancing like it does ! I can't wait!

I'm drooling with envy "shu" fishing water 35-45 down, i'd have to go 25 miles north for that. That is a pretty site watching that rod thump in the rod holder.Soon we'll be yelling the famous words "fish on", I can't wait either........
  5. Just wondering where everybodies best depth was for walleye. Mine was in the 23 to 27 fow. Our best set up was Big Jon mini disc with a varied length leader usually it was 4 to 6 ft depends on the clarity of water, and our hottest spoons were Silver Streak greasy chicken wing, wonderbread, and the hot lobster. Were by far the only spoons that repeated success for several trips, we atleast averaged 12 to 14 fish each trip.

  6. Well for me its like the first few fish i get all excited but after that i just usually yell "fish", but i'm usually driving, now my brother in the back at 6'2 235lbs stay out of his way he'll take ya down. But i still get excited when a rod goes off especially when its still dark out when the spreader lights are on.
