Well, Frank, I run both wire and power pro and year in and year out, the wire smokes the power pro for action. For whatever reason, it just gets whacked a whole lot more. I haven't found it to be any tougher on rods than any other presentation. I've got 2 Daiwa heartland diver rods with twilli tips that are 6 years ol and they are still like new. I've only had 1 tangle with a wire diver, ever, and that was a 400' copper that a king on a wire diver got into, lost the fish, but didn't lose any rigs or tackle. Tim

With the mild winter so far it looks like an early spring start on Lake Ontario. We have filled all of the tables and now have a waiting list. The hard work is completed and now all that is left to be successful is for people to attend. The admission is a $5 donation at the door with 100% given to the four pen rearing projects in Niagara and Orleans Counties. Thompson went out of business back in 1997. the good news is that in Dec of 2005, Yar Craft (a Thompson spin off company) purchased the name rights and molds for the Thompson boats and eventually have plans on reintroducing the 240 fisherman as the "Thompson 240 Fisherman by Yar-Craft" I have a 24' Thompson myself, a 1986 Model 252 Hardtop and it is a great boat. but if I could get any boat out there, it would be a Tiara Open (2700, 2900, 3100) Tim

Here's mine; 2005 2500 Dodge Ram Quad Cab Diesel 4X4 doesn't even feel the 8500 lb boat and trailer tagging along behind. 13-14 towing, 18 or so not towing. This is my 4th Dodge Ram in a row, no reason to change. My boss always gets Chevys, and quite honestly, I just HATE how Chevy's drive. His 2004 2500 Duramax just spent 2 weeks in the shop getting the injectors replaced, apparently that's an ongoing problem with the duramax diesel. Yup, I've been using that connection for 2 seasons now, works slicker than snot on a doorknob. After putting up with the Fish Hawk jumping all over the place and eating probe batteries for 8 years, I can't express strongly enough what a pleasure using the Depth Raider is in comparison. Tim ps, I've been on a number of boats with the Moor subtroll as well and that is equally as nice a unit. It all comes down to preference on an analog or digital display. you really can't go wrong with either of them.

I'm kind of an indifferent deer hunter, but I love small game, rabbits, pheasant, turkey... May is a tough month for me, some of the best salmon fishing of the year on the west end of Lake O, and also NY spring turkey season.... decisions decisions. Tim

Time is running out for this egg taking season. The State needs to GET SOME PRESSURE TO ""IMMEDIATELY"" TAKE WHATEVER ACTION POSSIBLE TO COLLECT AS MANY EGGS AS POSSIBLE IN THE SHORT PERIOD THAT IS LEFT TO DO SO. They are well under 50% of the way to their goal for eggs and fast running out of time. As it has been explained to us at LOTSA , the Salmon River, as the brood stock stream, will get 100% of its stocking allotment REGARDLESS, with all the rest of the stocking sites receiving their pro-rated proportions of what little is left (if there is any). (read: not very many fish to be stocked anywhere but the salmon river next spring). As indicated above in the Buffalo News article, the DEC along with volunteers collected eggs both by electroshocking 18 Mile Creek and requesting eggs and milt from fishermen a Fisherman’s Park on Friday and Saturday. Well, we EQUALED THE BEST DAY THEY HAD AT THE HATCHERY THIS YEAR ON FRIDAY AT 18 MILE AND THE QUALITY OF THE EGGS WERE EXCELLENT. EVERYONE PLEASE CONTACT YOUR STATE REPRESENTATIVES TO PRESSURE THEM TO AUTHORIZE AND ENACT WHATEVER MEASURES ARE NECESSARY (MORE ELECTROSHOCKING AT TRIBS SUCH AS 18 MILE OAK ORCHARD, GENESEE RIVER ETC.) for as long as necessary TO ENSURE THE DEC GETS THE 3+ MILLION EGGS IT NEEDS TO FULFILL OUR CHINOOK SALMON STOCKING NEEDS FOR NEXT YEAR. In real terms, what this means is there will be NO PEN PROJECTS anywhere on the lake next spring and what few fish are remaining after the Salmon River stocks are fulfilled, will be spread out across all the other stocking sites around the Lake. That could be 5000 fish per site, it could be 1000 fish per site, it could be no fish at any other stocking site if all of the fish raised are needed to fulfill the Salmon River’s needs to ensure sufficient returns to the hatchery. There is still a small window to get this done before the salmon run is completely over for the year, but we need to act fast, every day this action is delayed is one less opportunity to take the needed eggs from other sites. I've got big jon's on mine, 1 heavy duty single and a set of doubles on each gunwale. they are rock solid. A friend had vector doubles on his last boat and while they were similar to the big jon doubles, I didn't like them nearly as much as my big jons.
