  1. Fished out from Augres mouth today 22-33 fow. Caught 8 -only 2 legal. bb and meat. Not many boats out but nice morning.
  2. More from Bay City DNR office Jim Baker: no requirement for comm license to list where they fish. Would take many years/ $$$ to add that to licensing requirements. He gave me some phone numbers for law enforcement officer if some nets are causing many problems. Or if they are not marked as they should be. But basically it is "Sorry can't help you." He was very nice, but could not help. We are SOL. Keep an eye out for the flags and stay away.
  3. My question to DNR site) - 05/26/2008 07:58 PM Is there a map of commercial nets in Saginaw Bay? There seem to be more than usual, especially between Augres and Linwood. I have heard of several people having problems fishing near the nets. Response (Lynne Thoma) - 05/27/2008 02:23 PM No map exists showing where commercial nets are set. The fishermen can legally fish about anywhere within 50 miles of their home port as long as they stay in Saginaw Bay. The area between Au Gres and Linwood typically has the highest concentration of commercial gear. There is some information in the Fishing Guide on Page 9 that may help to explain how the nets are set and help the angler avoid them. My recommendation would be to try fishing east or south of Linwood, as there may be less commercial nets down that way. Nice huh??
  4. DNR response to my online question was that no map exists. And since there are so many nets between Augres and Linwood, I should "...maybe fish east or south of that area" !!!! Can you believe that??!!! I guess my license is not as good as the commercial guys'?? I am trying to find out who posts the listing on Lk Mich side.
  5. I wonder if the DNR has a listing of where the nets are around Augres? It might be helpful to post them, just like on the west side for salmon fishermen. There have always been a few, usually outside linnwood or Standish or the east side of the bay. But not anything to bother anyone.
  6. You can also add an alligator clip [cheap] to each shower curtain ring. Glue a piece of felt or rubber to both teeth parts of the jaws. This is like the kind you can buy for $2-3 each.
  7. Has anyone done anything out of Oscoda this spring?? Lakers or kings? [Not the fake reports seen on other sites please!]
  8. Where on the river was all this done? North of Gordonville?
  9. That is good news. It will be nice if they do the wave height indicator some time too! thanks for posting the info.
  10. I never fish the tournament. Just fish for fun and food.
  11. We fished north of Gratiot Sunday [Drifters area] from Center Rd launch and only took 5. Others did better, some worse. Immerman was not crowded Saturday at all - the river had many boats but not the zoo of past years. A friend started where we did, took 2, then went north of Immerman and limited out. Every fish we took was male. Glad we didn't fish the bay - I hear it was brutal out there.
  12. 3 man boat took limit this am north of Immerman Park. Minnows and crawlers on jigs. Nothing huge but all decent. A lot of small mouths too.
  13. It was a little cool but better than working. Someone posted a report on GreatMich site saying they got 2 nice ones in 18-20'. We never got that deep. Next time. The summer is young. I hear they are getting good fish off Kilarney Beach S. of Hoyles dragging crawlers. I will be back, in between turkey hunting.
  14. Fished outside mouth both directions in Augres last night 4-8:30 dragging plsatic. Tried 4-12'. Not even a hit. Did not see any boated either. Marked a lot of fish inside channel near mouth but we did not fish there.
  15. Correction: we fished mainly east of the channel. Need to turn on "my" gps.
  16. Small boats make it easier to get into the shallows. There was an 18-20' Lund cruising around. There is a definite clear/dark water line around 5-6 FOW. We saw fish caught in both waters. We took our 2 to right [west] of channel going with the wind. Saw some caught into the wind too. Clown took both. I will get back up some morning this week. Not sure how the am bite will be.
  17. Picked up two nice eyes last evening trolling plastic. Several boats around. Some catching, some just fishing. 4-6' seemed the ticket. Both in dark and clear water. Can't believe the guys using 3 lines. Wonder if they caught any browns? Yeah right.
  18. Caught a few keeper perch by bridges. Caught a few more on Thomas Rd. Water is down about a foot but still muddy.
  19. Fished the Quanicassee river in a boat and outside the mouth into the bay today. 3 guys, not a bite. Did not see anyone else catch any either.
  20. We are going to the Q in the morning. I will post a report tomorrow.
  21. NO perch yet in the Q river. Soon maybe. DNR dock is in at the launch. Any word on Augres river?? open outside yet?
  22. We fished Standish area today for perch. Most ice is gone south of Whites Beach. Wigwam bay area still has ice BUT it is starting to deteriorate. 12-15" there. 4x4s were running around but not for long. Pine River has ice from launch to the bay but that is starting to go too. Next week it might be open. Looks like commercial guys at palmer Rd and across from Pine River launch are getting ready to go as soon as ice is gone. Channel on Pine has good stakes to mark it. [We DID catch some nice perch in 2-3' of water! ]
  23. Another thing to consider is how wavy it is. Inline boards don't handle waves as well as planer boards do. I use the boards when there are good size waves. And use the inlines when it isn't so bad.
  24. I fish it pretty hard most of the summer and try to get out as much as possible in the winter when there is good ice. Usually looking for Perch and walleyes. There are several different guys who fish with me.
