  1. In SoHa this spring very few kings; none in 55’ in May. But, 115-170’ we are knocking off some nice size Coho n Steelies.
  2. Good job; agree on cottonwoods, see my 6/11 report about losing a fish due to having to clear them.
  3. 2,for 3, fished 7:45 to 1:45, had 9 lines out; 2-dipseys, 2.riggers, 100, 200, 300 copper and 3 & 8 colors. Later changed to 5 1/2 n 12 colors and no hits on lead; 90-180’, 1 mile to 3 miles north of pier heads; 25.8 to 27s. 9:30 in 142 trolling west ’ 7lb Coho on 150 copper on carmel dolphin with red at hook end and pink back. 9:50 in 157’ trolling south hit CJKing Ghostbuster meat rig on dipsey out 150’; had to stop reeling to clear cottonwoods off and then no one home. 10:53 in 167’ trolling SW small king on 300 copper on gold double orange crush. no wind, dead calm and quite hot. speed same usual 2.4-3.2.
  4. Thanks for the report; even our skunk trips are helpful info. Doing SoHa next Tuesday; plan right now, unless I see some reports to the contrary, is to start around 27s in 120-140 n head NW. Thanks again.
  5. Good job; fishing solo for kings is a blast; been there done that.
  6. I’m retired and so are most of my mates and we never go out on weekends especially holidays. Although city launch in SoHa you can use on weekends here before Memorial Day with no crowds. Weekends afterward are a little busy retrieving but the wait isn’t usually too bad. If I have a worker bee mate that can’t take off during the week we’ll do a Sat or Sun. Yeah this spring is weird. Someone posted earlier that fish are out deep because we had dry spring and so no warm water near shore. Last spring in May we were getting kings in 55fow. Nuts!
  7. Thanks for the report. Sounds just like our last SoHa trip on Tuesday. From the report we got from my friends boat at the launch we should have gone a few more miles north and all his hits came going west, uphill. Although we did get our king on 100 Cu and I had seen reports of fish caught on Jplugs so around 2 I put a tequila sunrise, deep orange/yellow J plug on the 8C and very soon in 107’ we got that small steelie. I never put plugs down after April until late August when we are fishing just outside harbor patrol. Have seen reports that many always put one in their spread. Meat on the riggers got jiggled a few times and 4 or 5 knock off on riggers, probably Coho hits on sliders. Since I live and am retired here plan on doing SoHa again next Tuesday. There are hundreds of guys out, especially on the weekends and you and I and a few others are the only ones reporting.
  8. Btw: If you go out soon bring some bug juice w/deet in it; black flies were hatching and out in droves; aren’t bitting yet but they will in a few days.
  9. Fished 8:15 to 3pm straight out to a few miles south and a mile or so north. From 110’ to 170’. 2 for like 8, 10lb king on 100’ copper on green spoon trolling west, around 2:30 in 107’ trolling east a small steelie on orange/yellow Jplug on 8C. Had 4 or so knock offs on the riggers and 2 or 3 soft hits on the wire dipseys with meat with no one home, very calm. Worse case 0-1s from SW. Sog usual 2.3-3.2. However, for the steelie near the end we ran 3.0-3.4 and hit steelie around 3.2. Ran 9 lines 100, 200, 300 cu, 51/2 n 8C, 2 wire dipseys and 2 riggers with sliders; ran all spoons except dipseys where we ran meat rig strips. Beautiful day in the lake. Talked to guys at the launch that got a mixed bag of 8 fish thats were in 120-140 in the 27s.
  10. Yep you are correct. Two years ago we put in planted lakers w/head coded wires in fish cleaning freezer with completed forms and we got letter from Charlevoix DNR the next January that fish were planted in Wisc rivers.
  11. Can someone please explain why lakers and kings are in 150-200fow this time of yr. Coho I get because they are eating invasive species Mysa (sp?) shrimp like they have the past few yrs. Last few yrs we were getting kings in skinny water, 50-60’. Have a good week and if you get out this holiday weekend be extra vigilant. Can be crazy the first official weekend of summer.
  12. Btw: Laker was planted and coho n kings were natural.
  13. Went 4 for at least 8; 2 small kings, coho and a laker. Small king on SS DW gold rasta goose on rigger slider with main down 57’; small king on dipsey on 3 out 147’ moonshine flounder pounder, coho on modified blue dolphin on dipsey out 217’ and laker on 300 copper on mag double orange crush. Had at least 4 or 5 trips on riggers with no one home , probably hit the sliders. Waves 1-2, a little foggy, Sog the usual 2.2 to 3.2. Got just as many hits uphill, going west, as we did downhill. Fished 150-220’ straight out to about 3 miles north’, all hits in 150-200’.
  14. Me and most of my mates are retired and we don’t fish weekends. I’m playing hockey Friday night in Jackson ( friend’s 70th birthday skate) and will be returning back here to SoHa Saturday morning. To start I would work that 50-55’ of water from piers south for kings n then work out for lakers n further out for HOs. Good luck and have fun!
  15. 5 for 5, 4 coho and 7lb 8 oz laker. Laker on 3 color on Dreamweaver SS red pepper spoon in 77 fow. 2 coho on 100’ copper on DW SS Gold Rasta Goose spoon, 1 coho on rigger slider (main at 32’) on DW SS Silver Rasta Goose spoon and 1 coho on DW SS Silver Rasta Goose spoon on 150’ copper. All coho caught between 120 and 150fow. SOG 2.4-3.1, waves 2-4s in rain at 1:30 that settled down to 1s around 5. Fished 1:30-6:30. No kings. But guys that came in behind us got a nice king, a steelie and 2 lakers. King was in 50fow down by Palisades. 50-55 fow is where the kings hang out when they first come in here.
  16. Went 3 for 4, 2 lakers and coho jack. All hits in 67fow trolling downhill, south. 1 laker on dipsey on 3 out 110’ on Warrior Whammy spoon, coho in 150’ copper on green glo frog w/wh back and laker on rigger down 64’ with Dreamweaver Blueberry Whirly Gig and chrome flasher. Got short hit on same, broke both rubber bands but no one home. 1-3s out of northwest were supposed to calm down to 1-2s but when we pulled lines at 1:45 2-4s were building to 3-5s. Speed 2.3 to 3sog. Water surface temp was 45.
  17. Went 4 for 4, 3 Coho and I laker. Got all fish in 17-20’ by Palisades Plant, Coho on firetiger thin fin around 60’ back and laker on 3 colors on uv Dreamweaver SS Rasta Goose spoon. Beautiful day, 1’ sw waves, speed around 2.5sog. Coho came on uphill, south troll; laker downhill.
  18. PS: Deep Bandits are worth it; they catch a lot of eyes.
  19. Colors look very good. That’s very good price for customs. I’ve paid like $14 for some custom ones.
  20. Heard some guys have been getting limits of Coho Jacks in St Joe River near pierheads. Here in SoHa in Black River few days ago friend got a brown by launch area and nice female farther up river at Stealheaders Park. Today is slow with no bites. Would like to be fishin Black bank right now but am on crutches until 3/24 with slight fracture at end of femur at my knee, torn meniscus also. End of the month I’ll be out in St Joe cruising 12-30fow south for Coho Jacks.
