  1. Does anybody know if the Holland swap meet is going to happen this year and if so when? Sent from my SM-G973U1 using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  2. I'm getting a seasonal slip next year for my 21' walk around. I've always trailered it and never had it in the water more than about 8 hours. Is there anything special I need to do to make sure the boat is good to stay in the water for 2+ month stretches? The only things I'm planning so far is appropriate lines and fenders, and I installed a blue seas switch so I can make 100% sure there is no battery draw. 3. Thursday fished 6-10pm Ran northwest from port, setup in 160 on SSE troll. Had very little action on the graph and no fishing action until we got a laker when pulling lines, flasher fly on bottom behind DR. Tried various speeds/angles, worked 160 in to 90 which is where we got laker. Ran mostly greens and blues, targeting 60ish depth as that's where the temp was. Meat, plugs, FF, spoons, etc. Very little success from others at the launch, a few folks fished similar depths. Saturday 8/21 AM - setup SW of port in 90. Good activity on graph around 30-40 down. Ran a similar program to Thursday, starting higher and moving down as the sun came up. Worked a few directions, mostly N or NE and no action so moved out to 160. Nothing going out there so trolled SE back in shallower and found in around 90 FOW was setup pretty good with big break from 55-65 moving from 60-48°. Had marks around 50 so dialed in some of the spread to hit that zone harder. Ended up 0/2 with 1 on 300CU blue/green meat rig and 1 on 350CU blue/green F/F. Both hits on a 0° troll, 2.8 at the ball. Hits came around 11 AM. What didn't work... 250CU, 400CU, wire divers out 150-200, 10 color, 7 color, 3 color, riggers. Mostly FF or meat, but mixed in some spoons and plugs to keep them honest. I feel like that cold water in 80-90 FOW is where I would hit all morning tomorrow if I was going. Fish seemed to not be too active though, maybe they fed all night with full moon. Good luck anyone that gets out tomorrow, hope this helps. Haven't seen much of anything for reports lately out of Holland so I'm guessing it's just tough. 4. Thinking of taking my daughter out tomorrow on the big lake for her first salmon fishing experience. Last time I was out the flys were terrible and she would have lost it. Anyone been out the last few days and know how it's been? She's 6, I want it to be memorable, not traumatic. Sent from my SM-G973U1 using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  5. Ended up using Ann's custom canvas in walker. Very happy with how it turned out and quality/fit is spot on with what was agreed on. The shape makes my boat look a little funny/short, it's what I asked for. I wanted it over the arch so I could get in and tinker without removing (side zipper installed for access) and wanted the motors and battery compartments exposed so I can start the motors with the cover on the day before to make sure things are working properly. If anyone is looking, I highly recommend working with them. Sent from my SM-G973U1 using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  6. This is just above my rub rail in a couple spots. Any thoughts on how to repair? Last year I did a full restore with compound, polish, and wax due to some heavy oxidation. These spots were already there prior. Sent from my SM-G973U1 using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  7. I usually clip board right after copper/lead. No line counter required and easier to explain to people I bring out. You could probably ask 10 people and get 10 different preferences. No matter what you do, just keep it consistent from one setup to another so they are repeatable. If you want to experiment, pick up a fishhawk TD to see how much it changes even just from trolling a different direction. Like others said the speed and currents play a huge role in where it rides, so those numbers are really just starting points. Sent from my SM-G973U1 using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App

  9. I'm 95% sure this is cable steer but can somebody that is more educated than me in this space confirm this is true? I bought a hydraulic steer autopilot in the offseason thinking I for sure had hydraulic steering so now I'm looking to convert this to hydraulic. Just want a last final word before I order the parts. Should be two hoses if it's hydraulic, right? Sent from my SM-G973U1 using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App

  11. What do you all use to store/transfer your starting lineup for a day of Salmon fishing? I've gone through several variations of bins, tackle boxes, bags, sleeves, etc. and just curious what others do. I don't put lures on rods before the boat is launched because they all lay together during trailering. Too many tangles with hooks attached. 12. Where can I launch to fish grand haven this year? Sent from my SM-G973U1 using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  13. I had lines wet with "?" marked on the graph by 6 AM. Like I said though, there was a boat near us that was 7 for 9 by around 9 AM and I think we were still 0 for 0 at that point. Who knows. I like the idea that it's just bugs and all the fish were avoiding the spot we were in. At least then I have a reason we didn't catch anything. HA
  14. There was another boat fishing similar depth and catching fish when I wasn't. I was pounding the area and depth of the bait/bugs. He might have been outside of it. I can think of at least a half dozen trips where I've marked these and consistantly have not much when fishing in or around it. Most of the time I catch fish that aren't even on the graph. I did catch a suspended lake trout around those clouds. Go figure. Sent from my SM-G935V using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App

  18. So I guess the million dollar question would be... Do you fish those spots or avoid them? I always try setting up on these types of marks and get frustrated when I can't get a darn thing to work in/around it. PS, sorry if I'm hijacking the post.
  19. Honestly it's a good question. Over the last 5 years I've seen marks like this, usually in the morning, rarely after the sun is up. I've always thought it was bait, but I suppose it could be something else. I saw small may flies on my boat when I launched and there were a ton of small black bugs on the boat in the AM while trolling. There were fish marks in/around these, whatever they are. I also could see my downrigger cable and diver wires vibrate when I went through them. I didn't see any sign of bugs on top of cannonballs or anything like that. It would be an interesting experiment to have a camera to drop down and see.
  20. I had the same experiance in Grand Haven on Thursday. Lots of bait. 1 for 3 but with all the bait felt there should have been more fish. Sent from my SM-G935V using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App

  22. I'm not familiar with chinook pier, is there signs or a road name I should look for? Boat trailer parking nearby or do people pull their boats up before putting on a trailer? Sent from my SM-G935V using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  23. Is there a place to clean fish in Grand Haven if using the harbor island boat launch? Also might create a new topic, but if anyone launches there this weekend please report how the water levels are. Sent from my SM-G935V using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  24. I ended up getting a cheap cover on eBay that was designed for a boat with a hard top. Paid about $300 for it and it ended up tearing in a wind storm at the end of the year. I am saving up for a barn (shooting for spring 2020) so I opted to go the cheap route again this year and got another of the same cover. This year i reinforced all the contact points that tore last time and also installed a boat vent to help avoid pooling on the bow like i had last year. My hope is it will last me until I build the barn. Probably would have been better getting a $1,500 custom cover, but I'm stubborn. Sent from my SM-G935V using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  25. If you or anyone you know is a hockey player that would be interested in playing on a men's league team in Walker, MI this fall please shoot me a note. I've got a team with a few open slots that I'm looking to fill. Skill level is intermediate. Sent from my SM-G935V using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
