As long as you aren't getting the sunblock on your lures you are fine. I personally don't believe scent is important I have run Batrix rubber meat strips in all of my meat rigs for years and catch as many or more fish than many of my friends who run real meat strips. There are more important thing like speed direction current direction that effect success .

Okuma catalina reels are flawless and you won't have the line counter jabbing you in the wrist if you pump your rods fighting a fish.

The fish that run the PM usually run around labor day weekend the early July run of kings has been happening for as long as I can remember in my 35+ years of fishing Ludington. The fish that are planted at the
Sable river tend to run later in September and in many provide a good fishery of 4 year old salmon into October.
-
We have seen alot of the 1 year old fish in Ludington mixed in with our catches in the last few weeks .

Good job on the fish

Yes, it is all how you hold them. Put the fish in front of you with outstretched arms and a 15 lbr will look over 20. In this pic, the fish is in back of and between the anglers. Makes them look smaller that way. It was weighed in at Capt Chucks so it is legitimate.
X2 Also if I didn't catch it it couldn't possibly weigh that much LOL.

Thanks guys! Just braid dipseys for me right now. Wire some day.
You will get the same depth out of braid as you do wire so unless you like wire why change. I got rid of my wire years ago and see no advantage in using wire and my catch rate hasn't changed on my divers.

Charter boat Katch Me Captain Sean McDonald put a 35.9# king in the boat yesterday to be the largest king registered in the port so far this year.
-
Yes run your high diver in the front holders and you can run them with the rings on them also I usually run my low divers on 1 or 1.5.

I don't think people are bashing anyone ,but it seems that these tournaments are seeing more and more people that have money buying boats that will outrun everyone to give them a leg up on the competition. There are at least a half dozen of them who fish the tournaments regularly if you want a fair tournament why not impose radius of how many miles one can fish from the given port to level the playing field?

They had a nice box on Saturday.... rumor has it Sunday they had 1 fish. I bet they burned 150 gallons of gas each day. Crazy!
All in the name of proving they are the greatest fisherman on the lake!
-
Great to see they have weigh stations all way up the coast.

My neighbor at the marina had the 30.75 big king at the Manistee tournament this past weekend , I fished tuesday morning and had 2 23 pound kings and 1 25 pound king out of the 8 fish we took. If the water ever sets up may need a bigger cooler with the size of the fish this year.

I switched my dipseys from 30lb mono to 40lb Power pro braid. Now it seems I rarely get a hit on dipseys. Is it just the year thats tough in 2013? Only have 1 fish out of the lame 7 total I've caought so far that has hit a dipsey set up. Anyone else see a difference or even running wire for that matter?
I would say its just the fishing is a lot slower this year not so much the. Change from mono to braid IMO

The Tribal fisherman today reported he "does have another 10 or so nets out right now". That means unless he plans to remove them soon, they will be out there for the summer, and perhaps beyond. He has a slight legal problem right now, and that doesn't make things better. Besides, I like to imagine those nets, with dead fish now, get removed. I got offered all the dead fish captured in the nets I want. Sorry, I just don't want them now. That's NOT fresh fish to me, unless they are still alive.
I wondered why I havent seen them out much this year hope he resolves his issues or at least closes the nets off from fishing if they aren't going to be checking them regularly.

Loomis street is ten bucks. Nice launch but im a cheap skate so we launch our twentyfive foot century at the free launch around the back of P. M lake. The downside is that there is no fish cleaning station and limited parking. Plus the drive around pere marquette lake. Loomis street and copean park have nice fish cleaning stations.
The launch is not free if you notice there is a pay box there if you don't pay you may receive a ticket as its enforced by Ludinton police dept also there are nets south in front of the projects as shallow as 45 feet you may wish to go to Captain Chucks website and print out a copy of the locations.

By the sounds of it using 60 pd copper just sound like a meat fishing setup why not just put a smaller cannonball on a rigger with a leader and winch them in?
-
Best of luck spending time with your kids will make your trip a success in its self

Appears to be a channel catfish based on color and how small it's mouth is but nice cat none the less.
-
The tournament had the most 20 # plus fished ever weighed since the start of the tournament trail.Better beef up the tackle for the next 2 months.
-
Great idea but just a better way to lose 30-50 dollars of tackle quicker IMO

Before any of this gets too far remember every speed device is calibrated differently. I can run my Garmin 5 ft away from my Lowrance and they read different speeds. Last summer Fishsniffer and I were trolling the same area and both running the same patterns and GPS speed and he passed me.
Correct but I think the point is when there is that much difference on your own units and the down speed is that much faster you are trolling with the current
-
Most likely you were trolling with the current which will cause you to have to run a lot faster to get the correct speed 5 mph seems alittle high but I've had time here in Ludington where the current is ripping and had to go 4 mph sog to get 2.5 at the ball
Rookie mistakes or bad luck? Color combos, leader lengths, etc..

One thing you may wish to try is browsing your speed range I have had to run from 2 to 3.5 sog to get the correct speed at the ball at times depending if yor going with or against the current to just pick 2.5 - 2.8 may be part of your problem.
