  1. I have a 10 color, 300 copper 45lb, 225 copper 45lb, 6 color, 4 color, 3 color and a 2 color. Now i have been assuming the 300 copper will get me down 70-80ft and the 225 will get me down 55-60ft and the lead core gets me down 4-5 foot a color, assuming on the conditions. what would be the depth if i ran a 8in spin doctor on the 300 copper, 225 copper, and the 10 color lead core? Also would it be ok to run a 300 copper with a spin doctor, and a 10 color with a spin doctor next to each other?

    Thanks and come on spring!!!

no problem running a 10 color core with spinnie next to 300 copper just make sure the core is on the outside position, have many time had out a all spin doctor program out on riggers, divers, and copper, cores same with paddles.

  2. So, I'm sitting here trying to figure out what I need to do next year to make things both easier and more productive next season. I got to thinking about my wire setups. I run a wire dipsy on each side of the boat on 7ft rods with an 8-10ft lead. My problem is when bringing in a fish on the dipsy, the T-top on my boat gets in the way. We have tried handing with success, but it's still a pain. I like the rods and they fit well into my setup so I won't replace them. So I'm wondering about the slide divers and if they would be a viable option.

Here are some of my questions:

Can/should this be used with wire?

Will the wire go through the diver or will I need to used a leader?

Do they dive the same as a regular dipsy?

    Would a snubber be needed?

I have only run slide divers since they came out. I run them with 40# power pro and put a 30ft leader of big game on them, you will get the same depth with them as you will running a wire diver setup.I have run both and used a gtm to record their depths and they run almost identical.I have never used the tubing or spring that comes with them and also found you can't run fluorocarbon as the diver will cheat its way down the line as flouro is slicker than mono.

Another advantage is when you run meat rigs or flasher fly setups you can let the diver slide down to the flasher and not need a extra person to handline the fish in.

  3. Here's a thought. How about splicing a piece of 40 # mono every 100' in your copper to attach boards. Use a small spro 80 # swivel on each end of the splice. Then you can set a 500 copper at 100,200 300,400 or run all way to 500. This will cut down on how many rods you have to carry to fish copper at different depths , especially for those with smaller boats!!!

Why not just use torpedo divers and accomplish the same thing. I have used my shorter coppers and added torpedo divers to the and effectively turned 150 coppers into 400 or longer coppers with only the need for 300 feet of line out. I started doing this years ago as I decided I didn't want to torture my friends or myself reeling in miles of line.

What I have done as of last year is set up 2 rods just with braid for when I need to get deep and run the large torpedo divers and use 2 of them spaced according to how deep I am targeting. I'm still able to reach extreme depths and not need to have more than 400 feet of line out.

  4. Regulations for spearing are in the book on page 20 or 22. I don't remember. Whitefish is a spieces that you can spear as long as its not in a designated trout stream/lake. Muskegon is a designated trout river/lake so as long as you start west of the coast guard station like 20 yards. You're past the sand/shore and you're good to go. I think if the DNR wanted to write these guys a ticket they could for where in the video they threw the gun in the water/started. Looks like they're to the east of the building instead of west of the building. Not sure i'd start where they did if I was gonna do it.

Thanks for the info that looks like it would be a lot of fun great video.

  5. Let me first thank you for you service and second disclose I have never served in the military. I agree with you whole heartedly as people in this country have forgotten those who have sacrificed some much for us to have the freedoms that we all enjoy. Thanks to those who serve and have served to give us the freedom to enjoy this great country.

  6. The ash dumping in the lake is not the only issue. When I kept my boat in the Cross Winds marina across Pere Marquette Lake from the Badger. My parents had a retirement home a couple of miles north of town. The coal dust coming out of the Badger's stacks put a coating on the boat and house any day the wind was blowing from offshore. Sorry, but I and many others with boats there and at other marinas and home owners in the area really detest this pollution. Not only does the black/gray dust make a boat/house/car look terrible, it is very fine and consequently very difficult to get clean -- especially in no skid decks and small crevices.

If you want to experience it yourself, go find a burned out campfire or fireplace and sprinkle the ashes on your boat or car. Wait a few hours and then try to get it clean.

It is a nice novelty for Ludington to have the quaint old time ferry and it is a giant tourist attraction for the town. I'm sure it is the same thing on the Wisconsin side. I too have had many a friend oooh and aaah at it when it is coming in. The new technology high speed ferry that now runs out of Muskegon gets a similar reaction but mainly for its speed. Because of the economic impact of the Badger (employment, tourist interest, taxes...) you will not find many of the locals willing to speak out against it in public... but they are not a fan of the coal dust and I think would welcome a modernization of the vessel's power plant.

Cleaning up the dust is the main issue for people. I have to imagine it isn't doing a lot of good for the plant and animal wildlife in the area either.

X2 I have never understood how people feel that a business has the right to destroy my personal property and not be accountable for damaging it.

  7. I'm glad to see the CO's out checking people honestly most I've met are professional and try to move on as quick as possible. If they had to wait tilll everyone is done with thier hunting or fishing why bother to have CO's in the field ? Just IMO
