I use a golfclub shaft fitted with a meat hook for a gaff. It's all I use when fishing by myself it works well for me.
I haven't read the rules yet this year but I know in the past it was against the law to use a gaff on trout or salmon, has the rule been changed?

Absolutely love the fact that all the guys saying using 32lb was useless are now eating crow:lol:
Must have missed those conversations, with all of the different methods to present lures they are only as successfull or useless as the person applying the presentations. If you run a surface program when the fish are 60 feet down you probaly wont catch many fish maybe crows:thumb:

I would say with the addition of the smart troll its still a guessing game to the exact depth your lures are running. I base my conclusion on the fact that the smart troll probe looks as if it is not the most hydrodynamic in design and I'm sure creates water resistance just my 2 cents.

Nice job just waiting for them to fire up in Ludington soon.

Great job on the video glad You share them with us!

It helps but deep water take alot longer to warm due to it's volume.

I have yet to fish this year and won't until there are some kings or coho to be caught. I would rather box a skunk over a laker or a brown. Anyone can catch those nasty things right now, who cares. I'd wish they would stop stocking lakers. Greasy things taste like crap and they eat all the alewives, I don't care if they are native to the waters. Salmon and Salmon Only for me.
You may wish to educate yourself on the diet of lake trout they consume many more bait species than alewives.Look up some of the Sea Grant studies and you will find your statement to be alittle off course.

Just try them blackened and you'll change you mind on how greatLake trout taste

No excuse for either the badger or Chicago to use our lake as a dumping ground
-
Is that how Chicago plants brown trout!

Warns water with all the nutrients cause zooplankton production for the baitfish years we have had good rainfall help the baitfish and other species that rely on the zooplankton. The years we have had good runoff did pull bait in closer to shore in my experience.

Use a firm bristled deck brush and west marine deck cleaner works well. Put the deck cleaner on before you wet the deck scrub it and rinse. Alot of people use other cleaners but if you care about what you are putting in the lake I would make sure its biodegradable, also if you use soft scrub remember it is a mild abarasive so it will eventually remove gel coat.

All of my meat rigs are between 48-60 inches and length and I pull them behind 10inch or 11 inch spin doctors or paddles.

Should read " The ranting of a liberal tree hugger".

Some thing to look at is a dreging in st clair water way 1980' s . GOOGLE that and see whats interesting facts there are .MK
Now there is talk of trying to put a water retention barrier at the bottom of the river to reverse the effects of the earlier dredging. Just goes to show how mankind should learn to leave thier hands off of some things.

Frank , Just curious if the heater has a enclosed combustion area for the flame as I know the Coast Guard would frown on the use of anything with a open flame.

I run all copper 45# from 30 ft to 300ft like seacat I see no sense in touturing my friends or myself reeling in anything longer.I have added torpedo divers to them years ago and can get the same depths as running the longer copper without needing over 300 feet of copper out.

I've used 3M 5200 in the past to fill holes in the transom. Works pretty good, hasn't failed yet.
I look at 5200 adhesive as the liquid version of duct tape great for alot of fixes:)

I fish out of Ludington in Lake Michigan and have seen the green hue on steelhead and cohos hear for ages but never on any other of the slamon or trout species.

Years ago Big Jon marketed a similar product and called it a fish whistle,I know several people that used them and they didn't see any difference in thier catch rate.

No big projects planned for this year... already organized tackle, made up some custom lures/flys and have to replace a trolling bag that was lost at the end of the season.
Ready to roll once the ice clears. Realistically I think it won't be until April. Really want to head out deep right away but I'd rather not be the only boat out there that early in the year. I'm turning more wimpy the older I get.
It's not getting wimpy as it was explained to me "with age comes wisdom" better to play it safe to still be around to play.
