  1. Best plug: A two tone glow orange plug with black ladder back. The bottom was a light orange glow and the top was a blaze orange. Looked a lot like a J-plug except for the single treble hook on it and the bead chain was fixed to the body by a flat blade. I lost it to a spastic rainbow. I picked it out of the water while fishing off Sheyboygan and was broke off in nearly the same spot! I would like to replace it but I dont know who made it. Any ideas?
  2. Ed, Thanks for the links. I was not aware off the UDS Cult. The pics are fantastic. I like the mini and the camo paint job. So far this is in the running of possiblities, just not sure how to grill on it too. I think it is worth investigating. Tom
  3. Pat, I was looking at those units. I saw exactly what you stated, the unit does not have a good sealing system. That is rather important for regulating the temperature and minimizing the temp flux. Tom
  4. Matt, Funny that you should say that you need some kind of tempature controller. I work for a commercial laundry equipment manufacturer in tech support. You can use a thermostat from an older manual control tumbler (big dryer) The tempature range would be perfect and most of the older ones are able to control 120 volts ac and up to 220 v. Let me know and I point you in the right direction. Regards, Tom
  5. Out on Sunday from 12:30 until dark with the wifey and the boy. Started in 120 right out from the harbor. Worked out to 200 and stayed between 180 to 200. Trolled with the waves, zigged and zagged our way north, ended up 9 miles north of the harbor by the time we were done. We finished the day going 15 for 19, throwing a large shaker back. This is what worked. Green Flasher and Green fly combon both riggers 100 ft out and down 100, and 80 ft out 60 ft down. Seahawn BCBP and silver flasher behind a dipsy set on 3 and 167 loc. Wonder bread BCBP and wonderbread flasher behind other dipsy set on 3 and 210 loc. 4 planer boards with various lead core. 2 and 3 color no takers 5 and 7 color used dark green and white mag pro king spoons, both took several fish. Once again the BCBP is the workhorse of the trip and the flasher fly combo working well too. Listened to the Brewers beat up the red birds in game one, I told my son Mason (mushy) that since the Brew Crew was ralling we should to and we took 3 fish in short order.... Awesome! Also had one fish that went kamikaze and ran into the prop, opps. We had steady action for the whole trip until dusk with a triple and quick followup single boating 3 out of 4. Every rod with glow in the dark fired with in minutes. We ended the day with 14 in the box.
  6. Right down the middle or up the sides works fine. I can move rods around fairly easily. I don't always run the flat line and there is always one extra rod holder open. The Ram Tubes adjust really quickly. I have not had an issue with netting so far. 82 fish this year in 17 trips and no problems.
  7. You thread finally got me to add the new thread on how to rig a lund using the downrigger brackets. I have been meaning to add that for some time. Look under... Great Lakes Fishing > Boat Maintenance and Rigging Lund trolling rig using the Lund downrigger brackets Maybe this will help you.
  8. Here is my set up. I can install or remove the set up in 10 minutes. The family likes to go tubing and anchor out on the sand bar in Lake Butt Des Mortes. So sometime the Lake Michigan gear needs to stay home (almost sacrilegious to type, pray for me brothers for I have sinned....) but it keeps Momma and the kids happy. The set up is quick and I can do it by myself. The really nice things are; there is no holes drilled into the boat to mount this, the brackets make a strong set up, and I don't feel like I am going to fall out of the back of the boat every time I go to net a fish. Here is the details. The downrigger brackets with the bases already attached. I used a wrap or two of grey electrical tape to keep the board bolts from dropping out. Feel free to use what ever color tape you prefer. I made the rod board out of 2x6 and the brace is 2x3 pine. I screwed the 2 boards together with 3'' stainlees deck screws. This was going to be the mock up and the final plan it to use oak, but darn if it didn't turn out just duckie. Maybe next year ! Notice the tapered ends of the boards. The Lund downrigger brackets do not sit level once mounted. One would think that a 55 dollar bracket (each) would be level. The downrigger brackets lock into the sport tracks (inside) with a "Z". The bracket gets screwed into the pro track (outer) using 11 plastic inserts and 11 screws. Lund could/should make a single plastic insert to make this easier. But if you get all the clips in and screw the 2 ends down first the other 9 go really easy. All screwed up! Make sure you sqaure up the brackets each time you reinstall them or it will be hard to get the board on. From here all I do is drop the board in place. I found some really nice plastic wing nuts with metal inserts and a few washers. And I am planning on cutting the bolts down....sometime later. Notice the height differences between the rod board and the downrigger base. The rod board was planed down and tapered, this created the gap to clear the wing nuts so you can remove the down riggers. I left a fairly large gap between the rod board and the downrigger block to prevent any binding. I also drilled the holes in the rod board a little bigger to allow for the electrical tape. Here is the downrigger locked into place and we are ready. I hope this helps out ! A special thanks to Jeff for all the woodworking on this set up and on the one we are going to make out of oak, right?
  9. Ok I am not sure if this belongs in this thread. Feel free to move it to the correct thread board. I am looking to purchase a smoker / grill next spring. I would like be able to hot and cold smoke (lox) and run it as a regular grill. Kinda like a 3 in 1 tool. I have looked at the green egg but it is a bit too odd, like some thing a tree hugger would own and it is down right pricy to boot. Please feel free to share your experience and knowledge. Thanks in advance, Tom

    lox

Mike, I will need to try both of these now. It looks like your version is a lot less hassel. Oh boy is the wife going to be happy with me..... Now I want to get a smoker. She is going to kill me. Thanks, Tom
  11. Just to clarify. I am not the finder of this link, it is on the web cam links. I just stumbled onto it. Sharing the info... they are stacked up pretty good.

    lox

Here is a recipe for lox. I have not tryed it but i am going to. If anyone has tryed to make lox please feel free to share your tips and hints. I will report back after I have attempted this. Since I need a few cohos, it may be next year before I get a chance to do this.
  13. All, Check out the Lake Superior State Univerity Fish Cam. The fish are stacked up thick now. I watch an Atlantic Salmon hang out for a while. Expand the screen in the right lower corner, It is like having a fish tank on your desk. Here is the link Lake Superior State Univerity Fish Cam Or you can find it from the web cam links on the blue bar.

  15. Ken, Welcome to GLF. Oshkosh is home for me. Good luck with the new lead core set up.
  16. Adding to TJ's post Luhr Jensen has a tech tip chart out that gives you some rough idea how deep you are running according to the line on the counter. There are some extra variables like speed, line diameter, type of line/wire (stretch) so it is not a perfect science. Here is the link to luhr Jensen tech pages (tip 12) http://www.luhrjensen.com/tech-info/tech-reports
  17. Keep in mind every color adds approx 5 feet of depth. But that rule can go out the window when there is a thermocline (according to the package). I run a 2 / 5 on one side and a 3 / 7 color on the other. Run the 2 and the 3 colors on the outside planner boards. That way the 2 and 3 color will sweep over the top of the 5 or 7 color with out having to pull the inner line. So far only two fish got into the other lines by diving.
  18. Thought this may be an interesting read for some. This document has wiconsin's fish stocking data all the way back into the 60s. The thing I found interesting is the different combinations of clippings the DNR uses to ID. Knowing this you can age the fish you catch and determine where they were released. http://dnr.wi.gov/fish/lakemich/Stocking_Summary_2011.pdf
  19. From one newbie to the other... Welcome. Where do you fish out of?
  20. I know your pain. lots of fish this year but I can not break into the 15 lb and better category. Nice job on the Kings!
  21. Besides a beatiful sunrise we topped the day off with a limit of 15 cohos Thanks for the great day Jeff.
