  1. I have both and to be totally honest, there isnt as much deference as you might think. I like my sharks 1o lb and they dont have as much blowback but not enoughf to justify the extra set of weights cost. I generaly only run my sharks and they are less current sensative.as far as storage I use an s hook half way down my big jon boom offset and attached with 2 hose clamps,it keeps it in place.

great idea thanks. i also have big jon,s. i,ll try and figure that out. you could,nt maby pm me some pictures could you?? i hate to intrude on his thread.

  2. Okuma convectors, CV20D, line counters.

those are great reels for the price. i was having some trouble with some of my sealine sg17lca,s and accudepth plus adp17lc,s so i bought a set of the convector cv20d,s and love them. then sent my others to tuna tom to get repaired. i didnt put any backing on for the braid line and it was slipping on the spool. so tuna tom put pins in the arbors to tie the line to. that fixed them. so i went back to the diawas for now and just using the convectors when i need them. so i can save them and just replace the diawas as they brake. i usely fish rookies on my boat so the diawas work great. i run the black sealines on the right side of my boat and the accudepth plus silver ones on the left side of my boat. it just helps keep us from getting my divers out on the wrong side. we have been known to try that a couple of times.LOL. enjoy your new reels. and if you ever have any troubles with the drags. tuna toms reel troubles can upgrade then cheap for you. or maby even some guys on here can do it. oh yea i did put a couple hundred ft of mono backing on my convectore for my braid. works great.

  3. I had that occure last fall and boat was only 5oft away! We sounded horn yelled and they just waves then fliped us off! I needed new line anyway so when they set off my drag i let my entire spool empty ,over 300 yards hopfully it all went around his prop!!!I moved over 75 yards at least but they just followed us! I lost a board and a spoon but Imshure his reair bill was at least a grand!!!

couldnt have happened to a nicer guy.LOL. i was fishing in jupiter fl a few yrs ago, this commerical boat was trolling beside me then just out of nowhere he turns right behind my boat. wipes out all 6 lines. we called him everything but a fisherman. he just shrugged his shoulders and smiled. we had wire leaders on all 6 rigs. i hope that did something to his shaft drive.

  4. personaly i like the pancake type weights myself. i have 2 10# and 4 13# which i use now. they arent even in the same class as the balls. some of the coating came loose on one of the 10# ones and i repaired it with hot glue. but they are still in pretty good shape. if you might want them i only want 35.00 for them shipped to you.

  5. Not likely much.

Replace it, bring the old one to West Michigan Prop, and get it rebuilt. Then switch back.

yea what he said! but to get real the only thing it might do is give you just alittle better hole shot and a few more rpm,s. i,d put her on there and take her for a test run. as long as you dont over tach you should be ok. you may even like the 14 better than the old 14.5. i would want to test it before i went out for a long day of fishing, just to make sure what its going to do. then when you get your old prop back from the prop shop you can switch them back if you want. but if you like the 14 you can keep the 14.5 as your spare. its good to know what your spare prop is going to do anyway. good luck and let us know how it turns out. i put a 13 1/2 x 19 pitch 5 blade on my old boat, and loved it. but i could have used just a few more rpm,s on top end. so i got a real good buy on a 13 1/2 x 17 pitch on ebay for 150.00. so i bought it and just wanted to find out what it was going to do. its hard to believe but the only thing i could tell was about 200 more rpm,s. it seemed to take off about the same, top end was about the same, just a few more rpm,s

  6. this is one time i cant argue with most of you guys. it just seems like every trip i make all our little cubby holes get filled with old line. most of the time we just put it in one of our old chip bags and stick it in a cubby hole. now sometimes some of its my own. but for the most part its where it got on our rigs. i dont think its as bad on the water as it is in places like maumee.it gets horrable there. i even make the guys on my boat put there butts in pop cans.LOL. it just dont take that much effort. we always have to clean crap out of our boat every day. but then were pigs anyway. because we never throw anything out. candy papers soda cans. alot of the time we use our ice bags for trash bags. well i,ve ranted enough. and remember what it would be like if the 90% didnt clean up after the 10%.

  7. I just tried letting out multiple dipsies on one side yesterday, just to see if I could do it (only two people on the boat, wanted a set of long lines instead) and the key is letting them out slow. Also, I'm not sure if it was mentioned earlier, maybe it doesnt even make a difference, but it seems to on my boat, but I don't to let out my dipsies when I'm making a turn. Seems like more often than not the moment I try that something is bound to get tangled in it. Hope it works better for ya next time out.

yea that! always be running straight when your putting out lines. it just works best. heres my set up. rod holders sticking straight out to the side. take a 10' rod i went to 50 fow used lite bite slide diver stock weight small ring 65 lb braid 2 mph. on #4 setting. let out line untill bumping bottom. took 185 ft. out to hit bottom thats 3.7 ft per every 10 ft of line out to hit bottom so now i have my dive curve. i want to run around 55 down. so 55x3.7= 203ft of line out. this one goes in front holder then a 9' rod on #3 setting 20 ft less=183 it goes in the middle holder. then a 8 ft rod on #2 setting 20 ft less=163 out. this gives me 3 rods at approx. 55 ft deep. if you catch a fish or your diver just trips on one of the outside rod, you can put it back out. most of the time without getting tangled. start out as far over on the other side of the boat as you can go without getting in lines. with clicker on start letting it out at a smooth steady pace. when you have about 10 ft to go put your thumb on spool to slow it down alittle then just take the rod over the back rod or rods and put it in its holder. check footage and set it on the footage you want. its really not as bad as it sounds after youve done it a time or two.just remember to get your dive curve on your #4 setting then set the next #3 20' less. then the #2 20' less than that one. i already have my dive curve so if i want to run 65 ft i go 65x3.7=240 ft out. i like to stagger the rods, they are just eaiser to run but you can run same length rods just fine. and i say always use a braid line for your main line and atleast 50 lb. and if you can set them up this way have the tip of the middle rod a couple of in higher than the back rod then the front one higher than the middle rod. if you really want to go deep use the light bite slide diver and you can get a 4 oz weight and a large ring. just remember to get your dive curve for that set up. i could give you more tips on getting deep but this is already way to long. and i really hope it helps you catch fish. check out slidediver.com watch the video.....sherman....i got this set up going out on a lake erie central basin walleye charter a couple of times. and i still reccomend everybody that can go out on a charter running his lines the way you want to learn, atleast once.

  8. i know this really doesnt help you right now but thought i would let you know some of us have been there. once i had a engine lock up because the cam broke. and about 8 yrs ago i had one lock up and it was the top gears in the outdrive on my mercruiser. i just hope you didnt spin a rod bearing. back years ago before rock when i was doing alittle raceing i seen that happen a few times. (i would have said lol but there just isnt anything funny.) that locks them up right now. im afraid that may be your problem. we all are thinking about you. good luck and keep us posted.

  9. first i want you to know i dont have anything at all to do with this site. i,ve just had great success with his lures and the paint dont come off. i,ve never even met the guy.

if you have already checked out his site please let me know what you think. if not please check it out at galeforcetackle.com and let me know what you think.

and again i have nothing to gain from this except just your thoughts. im just doing this because of the quality of his lures. and the service he gives. he ties my worm harnesses up tandem for me he also ties them without leaders for easy storage for me. then i just use the leader i want. i also want solid clevices. and i just asked him if he would tie me up 36 with wire, and he said yes. he also has some hot spoons.

the real hot colors i used last year on the central basin. DR DEATH/ GALE FORCE/ REVERCE MUFFIN/ WATERMELON/ BOTH COPPER BACKS AND SILVER WORKED GOOD

if this thread is out of line, i,m sure the moderator will remove it. because its not my intent to do anything but let others know about some great lures great service and the prices are close to fair. ofcourse 1/2 price would be better.LOL.

  10. i know your probably going to think i made this up but its true. about 25 yrs ago we had one of those little fellers come on our boat. my friend had taken his shoes off. the bird went in his shoe. after it hadnt come out for awhile he checked on it. the little feller was dead. never was sure what killed him tho.

    better luck fishing next time.

  11. It get easier after a few trips. Let the outside diver out the back 10-20' and let it pull around the wire. Put your wire at 90 deg. to the water.

cores are easy. Straight out the back, hook a board on, let way back, the let them pull around. I may have some time after the Holiday, where I may be able to take you out.

i think thats a great offer on your part. you just dont get offers like this every day. things like this is a big part of why im glad i got in this forum. there really is some good people on here. i wish i had been on here when i first started the central basin. as a matter of fact sometime in june i may try to find a couple of open seats at geneva ohio for walleye. or see if some of you guys would let me just go along for the ride. so i might learn alittle more. i would be willing to pay my part just to go back to school.LOL. and catch a few fish.

  12. one nice thing is you might find some guys on here willing to let you go out with them to see how they do it if you ask nicely. when i started fishing the central basin moving from the western basin i didnt have a clue. had never even seen a dipsy diver except hanging on hooks in the stores. a friend of mine bought a boat from a charter capt. then we got together and chartered him out a couple of times. i still dont know alot but i did learn enough to run 8 dipsy,s and 4 riggers and 2 outriggers with long lines. and i do atleast catch some fish. enough that we all have fun. so thats the best way to learn, is for someone to show you how. good luck and good fishing.

  13. i do like using floro as leader but i dont spend the extra money for leader floro. i just buy the bigger spools of floro line. but just like lures they arent designed to catch fish, there designed to catch fishermen.LOL. right??

  14. Just wondering if any of you guys ever try adding a dipsy Xft above the lure using a line clip. This is kind of how a slide diver works but i have never used them. I have too many dipsies and just recently tried this on Cayuga Lake with the size 0 and the thing was very hot on an otherwise slow day. I am using the church vise clip to keep it from sliding or popping off the line. Does anybody do this with the standard dipsy or is a slide diver the way to go on the big water? The fish are so damn spooked these days I need to get the lures away from the junk. Thanks guys, I'm new.

    hey brandon

i started with dipsy,s then 2 years ago i switched to deeper divers by cannon or walker one. then last year i run across the lite bite slide diver. i fish lake erie for walleye. we really have a problem with small trash fish that wont trip the divers. well the lite bite slide divers have 2 adjustments. 1 for rod tension and 1 for the fish to trip the diver. so this new mouse trap sounded great. so i invested in them. the best move i could have made. the lite bite arm has made diver fishing so much better. i can set the tension where i dont get alot of false releases even in choppy water then set the trigger tension so lite that most of the time even a small white perch will trip them. we now drag very few small fish around. if you ever have trouble with shakers or small fish the lite bites are the answer. they arent perfect but they are very close. you can also get 2 size rings and 2 size weights. you can use the big ring and the 4 oz weight to really get deep. or you can use the standard weight and no ring or the small ring to run shallow. you can check them out good at slidediver.com you can also get package deals with all the extras there also. then i just get in 50 ft of water let out line untill i hit bottom. on each side setting. that tells me how many feet of line out per foot of depth. so i now have my dive curve. i get close to 3.7 ft depth per 10 ft out. thats with 65 lb braid at 2 mph on a no#4 setting with standard weight and small ring. so if i want to run 65 ft deep, i,ll go 240 out on a 4 setting. you really should check out the lite bite divers. slidediver.com

  15. Just got back from the bay, couldn't get out Sat or This Morning. Wind took out power and blew the Motel sign down (Northland) Saturday, wind was trying to knock me down in the parking area at Linwood Beach, Granddaughter hanging on to trailor hitch. We'll be back. Still had fun, Grandaughters first big trip, ( 6 year old) She loves fishin.

i had quit fishing big water, then 2 years ago. my oldest son talked me and my wife into going to erie with them for vacation with him and his family. the point being was we took my 6 yr old grandson out, along with his half brother who got very sick. now he dont like it. but the 6 yr old is crazy about the whole thing. he loves catching he loves fishing and he just loves the run in and out. and he is so good about waiting his turn on the rod. and the look on his face when he gets a nice 6 or 8 pounder is in my mind for the rest of my life. i sure hope you dont feel like i stole your thread. just that i know what you have to look forward to. he is always ready to help with anything, he,s right there. what can i do. its just awesome to see a young one so interested in a good clean sport. as long as im able i,ll keep him involved in outdoor sports. hope you get to do alot of fishing with your 6 yr old. and i am sorry her big trip turned out as bad as it did. but it sounds like you guys know how to make the best of a bad day.

  16. Hi, I recently purchased a tracker boat with a 90 hp motor and I would like to salmon fish with it. Any advice on how to slow it down? I was told to get a trolling plate, however the one at Cabela's didnt have good reviews at all. I did find one called the Happy Troller, that did'nt look too bad. Any thoughts?

they have a upgraded plate at cabelas. i dont know if its any better than the old one. i have used the old one, and really liked the way its made and how it works. but the old ones just shear the pins to much. you can get way to much money tied up in pins. if they got that fixed i would probably use one. cabelas has a good return policy. so if you get one and it starts shearing pins just return it. but until i get more reviews on them, i,ll stick to my easy troll. i know what they will do. and they take just seconds to use and store. put your boat in neutral pul cord put back in gear. give just alittle gas to lock it in the up position. then your trolling. when you get done put in neutral pull cord put back in gear and give it just alittle gas to make sure its released. then just take off, the plate will come on up and latch in place. if you do happen to give it alittle gas without putting the plate up, the bottom half is hinged and will swing up and not bend. i have a few old man brain farts, so i have forgotten to put it up a couple of times. didnt hurt anything. knock on wood, hasnt hurt anything yet.LOL.

i even have one on my 15 ft tri hull 115 hp boat. has to really slow boat down for crappie and walleye. as long as i troll i,ll use the easy troll unless they get a better mouse trap.LOL.

please let us all know which way you decide to go. and how that works out for you.

  17. i started using gale force tackle last year. now its the only ones i buy. i do still have some others but i mostly just use gale force tackle. the best colors for me last year was dr death, gale force, and reverse muffin. i had him tie me up a bunch of tandem worm harnesses without leaders. makes them very easy to store after use. then i just tie on a leader to a swivel. that way i can use any size leader. when you can arm a novice like me with a lure, and i can go out and catch fish. its got to be some good lures. they have spoons, harnesses, and spoon harnesses. if anybody wants central basin walleye you need some of his tackle. and they are very high quality, you can catch fish and the paint stays on. not like some spoons i,ve used. if you want something tied up spiecial just contact roy at galeforcetackle.com
