  1. i found a way i might still be able to go fishing this summer. i have a few things i can sell to make alittle gas money

9 1/2 pop up truck camper. pretty nice. has a great set of ford super duty frame tiedowns if you need them, has 2 way fridge stove furness 3600.00 pm for more info. i havent got the picture thing down yet.if you pm me we,ll work something out if you are really looking for this type camper, i,ll even help with gas to come look at it..

1998 merc 150 hp lower unit. has been marina certified. it should fit all v6,s 135 150 175 merc or mariner, up to atleast 05,s. may even fit others. new retaining nut water pump housing and impeller, and grease. 650.00 well figure out how to get it to you. i dont know if i wouldnt put another impeller in it. its set for 2 years. it should be good. but it would be your choice.

2 cannon easy troll man riggere 2 8# balls 150.00 shipped

2 10# pancake rigger weights some of the coating has came loose in the back. i may try to hot glue this if new owner wants. they still work great. 35.00 for both shipped. if you can beat that let me know

i am in tenn right now so im kinda guessing. i have a bow mount power drive. its foot control with added remote control. it has a quick mount so you can take it off. it was mounted for awhile but never put in water. its same as new. 200.00. well have to meet. or i.ll deliever for gas. and i really cant drop the price even if you pick it up. we may get put in jail anyway this price is a crime.

im not sure how to do the bump thing

  2. i guess to each his own, and wouldnt knock anybodies way of fishing. but i,ve used the bags and didnt like them myself as well as the plates. i also used the happy troller and forgot to bring it up. ended up with a bent plate. had to use a 10 ton jack and motorhome to get it straight. i even used the one from cabelas, but it just sheared to many pins.

i now use the easy troll. its hinged in the middle and is spring loaded so if you do happen to forget to bring it up it just swings back instead of bending. for me its the only way to go. they even have one with hydro foils if you want them. i have a set of trim tab/trolling motors on mine so i didnt need the hydro foil. i have a 21 ft cobia with a 350 vortec 320 hp and this plate works great for me. you can google easy troll and find them for around 99.00 without the hydro foil, alittle higher with the hydro foil.

i really dont know what more to tell you, some of us like the plates and some guys like the bags. then there are the guys that will only use kicker motors. i,ve even done that a few times. but for me the plate was just the simple way to get the job done. the main thing i will say is if you try the plate the easy troll is the one to try. just in case you have a brain fart.LOL.

  3. trying not to sound like an a--hole but maby you just need to back your drag off just alittle. it dont hurt to let them run in open water. if your using freash line you shouldnt be having line brakes with those lb test lines. i,ve used 8 lb line in the spring for coho fishing. but when a king would hit it just took to long to land the fish. didnt have any brakes on it. had to use a very light drag.

your going to love the braid line for your divers, its the only way to go. i tie to the diver. i even use the lite bite slide diver. i use it just like the others, i just like the trigger on the lite bites. and i use 20 lb floro for my leader.

as for knots i,ve always used the improved clinch for mono and braid. just a few extra twists for braid. it works good for me.

hope you get everything worked out. those line brakes have to take alot of the fun out of your fishing. have a great season.

  4. Yeah We've got to have Trolling valves installed to get it to slow down on the troll, she idles at 7 knots, I'm thinking Ain't no Kings gunna catch mah spoons or dipseys. But I am saving all mah riggers and I'm going to install all the rod holders in her myself so I get it done right, the first time...

She has 670HP MANN's diesels in her, they are Monsters and she'll cruise at 35MPH, but burns 48GPH each engine at that speed, we're going to keep her a lot slower then that...Yeah know.

Hey KJ, The Boats Home Prt is in Sturgeon Bay, right where you're at!!!!!!!!!!!!

i was worring about where i am going to get gas for my twin 4.3 v-6,s s$$t you,ll use more fuel in one trip than i,ll use all season.LOL. but you can always use the dingy.

enjoy your ship. and i,d be lol lol lol to if i was in your shoes. im sure im speaking for alot of us. were reel happy for you. if your ever up around geneva oh in july and aug yell out for last chance on ch 68. if im there i,ll yell back. have a great season.

  6. hey steve

really glad to hear they changed there minds. im not a lawyer but i was pretty sure they would have to cover you they were taking your money. i had a bunch of stuff stole a few years ago. on my tools i had got mostly in sets which was alot cheaper than by the piece. but the ins company wouldnt let me turn it in that way. i had to get a list of the price for each piece to replace them. not what i had paid but what it cost for new ones. so make sure you list every piece. and the bow mount trolling motor i told you about in the other post, i think it is a 55 lb motor. so if your interested in it i will be home monday and can give you the no# for sure.

please have fun in the candy store when the ins settles up.

  7. you can bet your sweet a## that if it was one of us reguler guys they would have hung us out to dry. i personaly think the laws of this country should be the same for us all. and my dad was half indian. i know we took the land, but loan companies take our land all the time. doesnt give us any privliges. what do you think??

  8. I had 80% of my salmon and walleye tackle damaged in a fire.

Most of it is burned and melted so I threw all that stuff away.

Now I have some spoons and other misc tackle that was not on the shelf, that has smoke damage.

Do you guys think I can save it or just toss it and start over. Most of it has heavy smoke soot covering it.

And any ideas what I could try to wash it with as I don't think smoke sent is a very hot seller on the lakes.

Also I had to toss all my rods as the tips melted and broke, and i am going to clean all the reels as they have very light smoke damage. So any opinion on reel cleaning would help.

    Thanks Steve

    hey steve

you may or may not save your tackle. but you sure have alot of concerned people on here that just wish you nothing but the best. and were all thankful nobody got hurt. you will be in our prawers and thoughts. please keep us posted. if you need a good bow mount remote/foot controlled motor or man riggers with 8# weights to help get you back in the game, let me know. and i will find out just what i need to do to sell on here. i have a power drive i believe 42 lb that was mounted for awhile but never put in the water. for you because of the fire i would take 200.00. it has the remote added and a quick mount also. on the 2 riggers they are cannon easy troll manual with weights 125.00 for all. i may even have a few spoons that i dont use anymore that you might want. cheap!! we would have to meet someplace to do sale. i live in east central indiana. would drive as far as 150 or 200 miles for 25.00 for gas. less than that i will do for free. im not sure but i think i need to pay a 20.00 fee to sell on here. i wont actualy sell untill i pay fee. if someone will let me know how to pay the fee please give detailed instructions. as i am alittle computer dence. have a better season.

  9. if you have a contrack to buy the place and you put ins on it. it should cover it. unless you just got renters ins. then it only covers your belongings. but like the other guys. if you do have ins that dont want to pay off. get a lawyer. NOW!! i had a rental once that burned. i had rental ins on it. i got paid for the house. my renters didnt have ins they didnt get anything. but it was my brother and his son. so i took part of my money and gave them 8000.00 to help them out. talk to a lawyer. if you have a contract to buy you may still have to honor that contract.

    ....sherman....

  10. really sorry to hear about your fire. its a bad thing, just be thankful nobody got hurt. you can always get new gear. but you just cant replace a loved one.

as for the cleaning, after you try all the normal stuff, if it still needs more cleaning try fingernail polish remover. back before they made the inline muzzleloaders we would use it to clean all the oil out of our barrels the night before we went hunting(stopped misfires). it smells for awhile but it goes away and dries real good. the deer couldnt smell it. i,ve had deer all around me after cleaning my gun with it. just clean your stuff and let it air out real good. and it may not even work. and hopefully the soap and water will do the job. have a great season.

  11. I've landed plenty of skams on 8lb test. Not all line is created equal though. I use P-line. I also tie good knots and keep fresh line on my reels. Makes a huge difference. Braids suck when its nasty out. And just wait till you get it stuck in the rocks and can't break it off.

Each to his own though. No right or wrong. Just what you prefer.

Personally I prefer longer rods and lighter line.

Basically the shorter the rod the heavier the line needs to be and vice versa.

i pretty much agree with what he says. i like braid for trolling divers and night fishing the river for walleye from a boat. and its good for people who like using it. but i would go with an 8'6" or 9' or even a 10' med or m/l with 10# mono or floro line. some rods i like med and others i like m/l. both of them will catch fish. but i just like the idea of floro since the price for it is reasonable now. at one time i trolled early spring with 8# and it worked for me. but when we got a spring king on it just took to long to land the fish. but whatever you choose you can land the fish in open water with lite line if you,ve got your drag set. its alot better to let them run alittle than to break them off. right!!? now you just have to make the finale choice. the best of luck to you.

    ....sherman....

PS the first thing i think i would do is take dave up on his offer. you just cant beat going with somebody who knows what he,s doing and willing to share that knowledge with you. much less his tackle. you,ll know what you want before you go out and buy something you dont like.

  12. I like spring fishing we picked on up last friday to. Just over 27"

there is alot of them in the river. they talked about building some reefs out in the lake at one time. i havent heard anything about that in a long time. i would like to see a good walleye fishery in that area of lake michigan. but i really think the econamy crash may have canceled those plans. have a great season.

  13. looks like a great way to start upgrading. NICE!!!!!! back when i was a young man i would have loved to have had that boat. i went to alot of boat shows and looked at boats like yours. and almost went in debt to get one. then i got a big water addiction. so then my dream boat was always a big boat with twin engines. and after 30+ years and many 16 to 18 ft boats nothing as nice as yours. i finelly did get me a 21 ft then got sick and quit the big water. then 2 years ago my son got me back into it. then last fall i had alittle money. got a great buy on a 1986 28 ft amberjack twin engine. so my dream has come true. it took me 30+ yrs. your still a young man and already have a dream boat. congrats.

  14. I was under the impression that many baits would lose action with heavier lines hinting the reason behind the usage of lighter lines for walleye. I'm not only relying on the depth of the baits but the action as well. Is this true and how about when I run my smaller 2 1/4" spoons?

I like the idea of what Supertramps talking about braid lines. But do worry about the line cutting into the eyes of my rods, which I had happen back when spider wire was new.

I guess there are many variables in choosing line. Now comes the fun part the choice. I appreciate everyone input and will keep them in mind. But think I'll start with Tectan mono 26lb with a 10lb dia seem like best choice for now. I just cant believe a small diameter high strength mono line exist. This was one of the reasons I had opened this thread to see if anyone was familiar with this stuff. Thanks and GOODLUCK.........

i dont really know anything about the tectan line but it sounds pretty good. i thought i would try to give you a tip on using small spoons with heavy line. you may already know all this stuff. but i feel its better to hear something again than to not know. but i do like someone elce said i use braid line then use a blood knot and tie on to 20@ floro leader. then with small spoons well i do it with all spoons. i use a snap or split ring on my spoons. that way the heavy line doesnt affect the spoon action. or i dont think it does. and you probably know more about this than i do but i,ll throw it in for good measure. im just guessing the tectan line is a low streatch line. if it is you want to be sure and back the drag off just alittle extra for those hard hits. i use some of the lighter braids for night fishing. and after a few break offs when setting the hook, i learned to back the drag off alittle. just a thought. good luck and thanks for bringing that tectan line to my attension. i want to check it out myself, for night time river fishing. have a great season.

  15. I have an old pair of wave walker foam boards that I love. but now they are starting to break down and I can't find the company to get new ones. So I am going to use the same hard wear and use the old boards for templates.

I need some ideas as what to use for the new boards. I don't think we want wood and I am in the process of trying some PVC 1x12 I found in the local lowes.

What are some of your ideas like a foam or anything synthetic.

    Thanks Steve

just a suggestion. there is a guy on ebay that makes and sells double boards out of cedar. they are priced reasonable and they work great. right now im using a set made out of redwood then painted, that i bought at a bait shop in geneva ohio. i,ve used them in 4 ft waves or larger and they still worked great. i had used all kinds of the plastic and foam boards and i wasnt happy with any of them. the otter boards by big jon i never used. but the custom wood boards are the only way to go as far as im concerned. but they have to be made out of a good board cedar, redwood, teak or something like that. i fish out of geneva and i seen more charter boats using custom boards than all the other boards put together. if you want to make your own. if you cant find what you want to make them out of. try redwood. i,ve had mine for about 15 yrs. they are just as good today as the day i bought them. they are pretty big and they are double boards. but they do fold up.

  16. hey

since the price of floro has came down so much the last few years i use 20# floro on my riggers for walleye. and i use 20# floro for my leaders with my braid on my divers for walleye. you just dont need the lite line for trolling for eyes. i would guess the light line has its place when finess fishing for eyes. but i do just fine using the 20# floro lines. just another opinion. have a great season.

  17. hey everybody

i,ve had a couple of people interested in my worm coolers. so just in case your interested. i found the best worm cooler made a few years ago. there easy to find and they dont cost that much. the little 12v coolers you get for your car. just make sure not to get one with the little fan on the inside. or get one with the fan in the lid. but they will keep your worms freash and cool. i kept about 20 dozen in a 7 liter cooler for the whole month of aug last year. i realy dont know just how many or how long you can keep them. but you just plug them into your cigarettee lighter or power supply. or you can get a cooler adaptor and plug them into a house outlet. which is what i done. so i leave my main cooler plugged up at the campground, and put about 6 dz in another cooler to take out in the boat. and just plug it up. keeps your worms cool and freash all day. i also have a couple of 18 qt size with the fan in the lid. for larger amounts of worms. this year i plan on starting out with 500 worms. i just found and bought a 32 qt size that has metal grates in it and no fan. YES!! but i now have about 10 or 12 of these. i bought most of them on ebay for 15 to30.00 and 10 to 20.00 for shipping. then i would get a good buy like less than 20.00 with free shipping. i got one for .99 and free shipping. i still havent had one go bad but i wanted a couple of spares. they have a fuse in the plug, and i had one blow and thought the cooler went bad. then after i got more coolers i found the fuse and fixed it. then wanted some alittle bigger. its just like keeping them in a bait cooler or refridgerator. so i dont know just how many you can keep in the smaller cooler. but im sure you could keep a bunch of them for a week or two. untill i started using these coolers it was a pain to try and keep large amounts of worms while up at erie. we would take double zip lock bags and keep them filled with ice. now we dont have to do that anymore. if you decide to try this please let me know how it works for you. these realy work. you can go to ebay and type in 12v cooler, electric cooler, car cooler, 12 volt cooler and so on. you can also get them at amazon.com. but i did better on ebay. good luck and keep your worm cool.LOL.

  18. gave up drinking gave up smoking and i dont mess around. if i give up fishing i might as well be dead. i wont live longer but it sure will feel like i am.LOL.

i dont even know how much gas im going to use. my old 21 ft cobia has a 2007 5.7 vortec with a big double line holley 4 barrel 320 hp. it used alittle over 20 gallon a day. this boat is a 28 ft upgraded at some point with twin 4.3 mpi 6 cyl. 220 hp. i,ll run both engines going out and back in. but i plan on just using one for trolling. that should help. you think?? i just heard on the news that they looked for gas to be 6.00 a gallon this summer. at that price i dont know just how much fishing i,ll get to do. but somehow i,m going to do some fishing. i think our pres needs to do what clinton did when he was in there and prices went so high. he started an investegation, and the prices fell.

  19. hey tim

i see this is an older thread thats been revived. but you got the best start anyone can get. you already went out on a charter a few times. i,ll always tell anyone thats just starting or changing type of fishing if they can swing it to make a couple of trips on a charter. it seems like alot of money. but usely you can go on as a walk on or get a few friends and go. you,ll learn more in that first trip than you can anywhere in that short amount of time. every charter capt. i,ve fished with was more than happy to help me out. its money well spent. and even tho you forget some of the stuff. once you start doing it yourself it will come back to you.

i used a charter to teach me alittle about trolling for salmon in lm back in 77. then when we moved from the western basin to the central basin of erie. we went on a charter a couple of times. the best money i ever spent. its a whole different world over there. i didnt have a clue about useing divers. that capt. had us setting lines in no time. explained how to run all the divers and not just stay tangled all the time. he didnt even run riggers. i,ve always loved riggers so i,ve added them to my tools to catch eyes. i did get me 2 electric,s last year and 2 new ones this year. and im going to try the chamberlain releases this year. so hopefully they will help with not dragging all those small trash fish around. keep giving them heck. have a great season.

    ....sherman....

  20. i like walkers they are real smooth and the auto ball retrievel is just awesome. and the new ones with the new motore are really fast. and all the new ones come with auto stop. i,ve seen them on charter boats i,ve used.

but i settled for big jons because of the cost. i got 2 sportsmans last year and run 13 lb pancake weights. one of them kicked the breaker a few times but other than that they worked great. i got them new for 450.00 for both on ebay. this year i got 2 upgraded ones the pro tournaments with the bigger faster motor and auto stop new for 510.00 on ebay. you cant touch a pair of walkers with all the bells and whistels for that price.

i also bought the auto stops for my sportsmans. havent used them yet but think im going to like the auto stop feature. and the thing i like best besides the price i paid is the flex in the booms. i just dont think its as hard on all your gear. i think im going to be happy with the pro tournaments. and i am very thankful for what i have. these are my first electric riggers that i,ve owned. good luck to all and have a great season.
