  1. Made the commute over to the west side on Friday night. With the forecast calling for heavy winds out of the north we were unsure about making it out for salmon on Saturday. Woke up on Saturday to find bigger waves then we wanted to fish. Thought about doing harbor patrol, but I'm not a fan of traffic, so we opted for some pan/perch fishing in Portage lake instead. Got out of the wind and anchored up, and once the sun came out it was a fantastic day. We caught all the perch someone could want, however, most of them were DINKS.

I was reeling in a perch when this hit, it actually hit the perch

I'm not sure how big it was, we're thinking between 6-7#, it was a MONSTER. Had to net it with my salmon net.

After blowing through all of our wigglers and minnows we rigged up for some trolling around the lake, as salmon come in there from time to time. We started trolling when this thing hit a dipsy with a green on white spinny with a green fly behind it, another fine specimen......:thumb:

Had dinner and checked the lake, it looked to be laying down. So Sunday morning was a green light. Hit the lake at O' dark 30 and proceeded to search for some silver. Tried in shallow with not many marks and no action, so we slid out to the west over the shelf. went 2/4 with a coho and a steelhead. Ho off the rigger 40 down moonshine mage spoon 1/2 white 1/2 black with ladder back tape on it. steel off a dipsy no ring 125 back spinny / fly

Not a total loss for the weekend. Seems everytime I have a trip planned to fish the wind and conditions are less than ideal. 2 more trips to go, hopinig we can end the season on a good note.

  2. dnr dude was telling people to back in including retrieve lanes and telling boats coming in they had to wait. I was a little poed after waiting for two boats to launch so as soon as a boat backed out i pulled in while he was directing someone to back in and telling me i had to back out. .

Not quite certain this is a duty he should be doing.....

  3. they need rods so we can chop theyre wood:thumb:

Not to hijack the thread, as I love the antics of a select few at the ramps....

    But...

A few years back we were fishing Onekama area. 2 sailboats were heading south from Frankfort. Not sure how exactly they got right on top of us, but they did. We had to essentially turn 90* to get the heck out of their way, not 1, but 2!!!!! I think they have a secret code that involves being pompus and thinking they own the water! Under motor power they get a little bit back from me....LOL

I was on the radio in Manistee a few weeks back, I was fishing alone, and then all of the sudden I'm being closed in on by a boat. We were on a north troll with no one around for miles. Then toward dusk there was a boat right of our starboard side........I made it pretty clear on the radio that if they didn't turn I would be chopping their wood!

    They turned

  4. 2 things are certain.

#1. Sailboats always are a nuisance.

#2. 2 jet skis at the launch, were definitely VIP status, GET OUT OF THE WAY.....I'M A PRETTY BIG DEAL

And, it will take them longer to land & load 2 jet skis than that of a regular boat ......

    Synic....? Maybe a touch....

  5. I would like to come up with a weekly chat topic schedule for the main room.

Great minds think alike, I was thinking some sort of "topic", maybe useful.

I'll surely pop in to chat with the crew, however, with 3 kids at home I'm stretched pretty thin, but will give it the old college try!

  6. it reminds me of a couple weeks ago at the fish cleaning station some guy came over from the yact club to clean his fish at the same time as plumkrazy (phil) and i were there and he started feeding us the riot act cause he got a little splash on him from the grinder as phil fed a fish into it. i dont know about anyone else but i usually walk out of there with atleast a damp shirt

Sounds like a primadonna who had no biz being in a fish cleaning station. I actually have clothes that are dedicated to fishing, cuz I know they're going to take a beating, get hooks, blood and whatever else all over them. LOL.....

  7. It's hard to ignore the morons sometimes. We tend to be in and out in 2 shakes of a lambs tail, so usually there is no issue. I wouldn't be biting my tongue if someone else thought it was in their best interest to be disrespectful. Lead, follow, or get out of the way!

The people that are the worst, are the ones that back down, get the boat off the trailer and then load up and gear up, THIS REALLY MAKES MY BLOOD BOIL, I'll give those guys the business every time! Move it or lose it

  8. Gonna go back up the weekend after the holiday to give it a go again, hopefully the fish will be a little higher and a lot more active.

I believe I will be up there that weekend too.

High divers out to 330' took some fish, not good numbers, low diver out to 260' was taking a few hits too.....Riggers really seemed to be our best presentation. Give me a shout on the radio if you do make it up the weekend after the holiday....
