For me, if I buy one, I'll be getting the FishHawk X-4. The selling point for me is the no coated cable. I have a lot of newbs fishing with me, and I do have the cables jump off the track every once in a while from swingin the arms out, lifting the ball out of the water, and guys not paying attention.

Another 20lb. P-Line CXX user here. With tackle prices that keep rising, it's not worth it to me to fish lite line. Double glows are approching 9 bucks a pop, I want to keep that spoon or plug on my line, and not hear that sickening "POP"... Oh, and the price of Sampo swivels...

Jim, When you get in finished post a pic or two. Thanks
What he said.

Just curious, what sizes are available???

You guys are killing me! I didn't catch a single fish last year on a paddle...
My go to lures last year were the regular mag spoons, Carmel dolphin was good to me, as well as the old stand bys. I also did really well on my favorite plug, number 4 Wonder Bread J. That thing was on fire for me this year.

Mostly look forward to spring!!!
Besides work and my side jobs, tinker around with the boat, buy new terminal tackle, replace lines and what not, ice fish, tackle shows, and make a few trips downstate. Oh, and winter steelheading when flows and weather permits.
-
Thank you and to all you guys here the same!!!

Sweet, thanks for the up-date tony! Heal fast and heal well!

sweet vid there!! Man I wish it was spring already!!!

Sweet looking flys! Where did you buy the little plastic collars that the mylar attaches too? Thanks!

I have my boat torn up as well. 2008 Smoker Craft Pro Angler 161. I had a downrigger board that housed both riggers, 2 rod holders, a graph, and a rear driving lamp for landing fish. Am going to downrigger pedistals for next year, and rod trees. Mounting the graph, lights, and holders elsewhere. Running transducer cable for new FishHawk and Hummingbird gps/graph combo. I'm working at this a bit at a time, after all I have all winter.

Sweet, thanks for the pics jimcr!!!

Ok, was cleaning out the "man cave" and I came across a storage container I forgot that I had, gotta love it. 15 new "J's", 2 dipsy's, about 30 spoons, some misc. and 10 packs of Berkley Trilene XT, which I bought at China-Mart(Wal-Mart) about 5 years ago. The line was on the clearance shelf, for a dollar a pack(box). Who knows how long it was on the shelf prior. So, you guys think it's still good, and usually how long does line keep in storage. It's been out of sunlight and stored indoors.
BTW, it's 14lb. test that I'll use for river kings this fall...
Thanx!!!

P-Line CXX Xtra strong, clear, 20lb. It's the only stuff I use now.

Mine are the lime green with silver colored prism tape, doen fairly well with them.

I forget who it was on this site that tried to tell me that berkley vanish stinks, I think it was Dave Ash, and I defended this stuff. Well, whoever it was, was right. This stuff sucks! Its horrible! Broke three times tonight, thankfully the line broke twice just as the net made it under the fish. The other time cost me a $9 bait. This stuff is crap! Luhr Jensen snubbers rank up there with them. Broke two in the last two trips.
Amen, been preaching the woes against Vanish for a long time, just ask Wolfman about the junk...
-
I dont use it either, too much time on the computer already and not enough time on the water...

Sweet sweet pics!!!! Thanks for sharing!

If you are using fresh salmon that has been diced up, what is the best method to cook the salmon? I assume it is pre-cooked before adding it to the chowder. (sorry if I missed it and it was already asked in the thread)
I didn't mine, just threw it in there and it cooked with a slow boil.
BTW, this is the BEST chowder that I've ever had, and Im not a soup/chowder person at all. I loved the stuff!

i've seen some of those wood plugs, but I wonder if a chinook would "tear" it up after 1 use...
-
I start using plugs right around this time of year. I love the Ace-Hi plugs, and J's. With the J's, I remove the front treble, less hooks to get caught in the net. I have a ton of plugs, but usually fish only 5 different favorites every year. WonderBread, double glow all glow Ace-Hi Canadian, Ace-Hi double glow Green and Blue Splatterback, and Bloody Nose everglow J's. When fish are finicky, I'll try the silver bodies with bright heads, like orange, red, chartruese, etc.

can't wait to try this, sounds awesome! thanks for sharing!
