  1. For me, I just the downrigger cables as my speed adjustment. I don't have a speed/temp probe. A slight angle back, with bubblles coming off the cable is what I go by. I've done really well by this. I really need to step up my game with a new gps/graph and speed temp probe this year.

  2. Thanks for the pro tips. The router I pulled out of play is a NetGear RP614 v3. Is it possible a firmware download will revive it? I have a Charter provided Ubee modem and it seems to functions fine. The router belongs to me. If the old router is not capable of handling things is there any brands or models better than others?? A wireless would be nice for phones or my laptop that is on my boat in the garage. Does a router give you any security advantages? :)

The firmware update might revive it, but it depends on your computer and it's age and system. My laptop is now 6 years old, but still doing fine.

Cisco and Motorola are (2) great product names, as Joelsanders said, stay with a Docsis 3, just look on the outside of any product box to see if that's what the product is.

As far as securtiy of a router, yes and no to answer your question. If someone really wants to hack into your system, if they are good, then they will. Always stay current with any Microsoft updates and patches, and anti-virus and malware software.

  3. IIRC, I read an article of a guy's boat sank, or almost did because of a failing bilge pump. Must have been almost sank, because the article said when he disassembled the pump, he found "a bunch" knot clippings that had colleted in the pump causing it to fail. That has always stuck in my mind.

  4. Recently I was experiencing a boat load of trouble connecting to sites etc. Charter has been increasing speeds all over it's network. I took my 8yo wired router out of the equation and voila. Here is my speed at about 7 AM. Smoking Fast.

I guess it was the weakest link thing in my case. I think it would behoove the service providers to make customers aware of changes and what may be needed on our end. Obviously the super fast internet was screwing with my older router.

Charter is constantly changing and upgrading their systems, the newest is MAD (MI ALL Digital), I work for them. Look for even more increased speeds later on this year. It is recommended that you replace your router every 2 years to "keep current" or you can update via "firmware". They should have sent you a letter saying that your router was not current and that it needs to be replaced (I think this may only apply to Charter rentals, not 100% sure though)

  5. After not drawing for the last 3 years, this year I was successful! My first! To say the least, I'm pumped!!! I did purchase a left over tag last year, but didn't get a chance to shoot a bird, and non of the years prior to that. Ever since last year though, I've had turkey in my blood! Hopefully this winter didn't take it's toll on the birds too bad.

  6. I'll be using meat for the first time this year, and I'll have whole and fillets in the water. After watching many west coast programs on meat, I do feel confident in running it this year. I think the hold up for me was/is the hassle of running it and the "mess", but if it helps put a few more fish in the box, then it will be worth it.

  7. I know it may not be an extremely high dollar unit, but I LOVE my raymarine dragonfly. I went thru 5 fishfinders last year in the $500-$1000 range and hated them all. I had every1 recommending each 1 and swore by them, and I tried em and was not impressed. everything from humminbirds to lowrance and different models of each. Then my buddy that owns Clear H2o tackle in Edwardsburg mi told me to check out raymarines website and view the dragonfly. I liked what I saw so I ordered 1 and with the silver package that included navionics and inland lakes cards, it was only $700.

Lets just say I LOOOVE it. 1st off right out of the box, it looks far better and clearer than anything else in that price range. I used it for the last 2 months of the season and absolutely loved the way it worked too. and to top it off, almost everything is controlled by 1 button. it is so simple to use that it only included installation instructions and a quick 1 page sheet on how to operate it.. Hope this helps some1 out there..

ps, I even told my buddy at the store to recommend them to people and let them no if they don't like them, ill buy it from them.. lol

I'm going to be looking into this one! Thanks for posting!

  8. thats too bad and sorry to hear you had a bad experience. That is definitely not the norm from what I have seen with the clear and purple. Myself and other charters I know have really abused the Blood Run mono with great results.

I know! I keep reading good things about it, maybe I got a bad spool?

  9. So you let out the copper what 150-200 feet then clip the board on or where should you clip the board on at ..... Dn I feel so damn stupid asking these wuestions

Yes! Depending on your length of copper, 100', 150', 200', 300', etc. when the copper is finished deploying all the way, clip the board on your perfered backer, and then let it out to where ever you want your board to pull.

  10. 20lb. P-Line CXX for me. In the spring, 15lb. P-Line. I run clear color. I did try the Blood Run 20lb. rigger line this past year and was not impressed. After snapping off 2 flasher/fly combos and losing a couple of 15lb. spring kangs, I gave up on it.

  11. Stick baits and cranks, smaller size spoons to start out the season, then larger sized spoons and J-Plugs as the season progresses. I tend to use stick baits early on and later on in the season, and spoons all season long. I try to match spoon size to the forage that the preds are feeding on.
