Small to medium spoons and body baits. As soon as the Kings show up I begin switching to larger lures though.
-
I had some of the shark weights but couldn't get rid of em fast enough. I had constant tangles from spin. I use all round balls with fins 12# now and have no problems at all. I occassionally will use ridgebacks when the fish are super agressive.
-
Sure they do Caz. After all, how else can ya troll?
-
Walkers. Going to try the Scotty this season.
-
Have a good one Jim!

Yes to cut bait.
If it is banned, then so should scents because they smell. Or plastics because their soft, or flies because they don't really represent a salmons food, or spoons because they aren't anything like a salmons food. I guess that leaves just alewives. Are they considered cutbait?
In the "manufacturer specific" tourneys it only makes sense to run only that suppliers products.
I have heard that tourneys have banned cut bait because of sponsers not making cut bait rigs but I don't buy it. If so they should be manufacturer specific also. I talked with a manufacturer a couple years ago who stated the ban was for that reason but I believe the real reason was he didn't know how to use it. Now that he has learned how he runs cut bait regularly and has no objection to it's use in tournaments.
I run it alot, but I sure wouldn't count on just cut bait for my catch.
There are many variables in tournament fishing and I sure wouldn't want to see so many rules implemented that it take away from the sport.
To each his own I guess.

Yeah I know those ten footers aren't for the weak of body or spirit. But why is it that the 10-14 year old kids bring em in fine while the old farts cry? I tell everyone that they'll make ya whine like a little schoolgirl.
At least I can tire out the crew some way!
Actually, they are going to be converted over to extra dipsey rods this season and replaced with more 8 1/2' rs.

I read somewhere a while back that the snowfall and rainfall in Lake superior is what dictates our levels in Lake Michigan more than any other factor.
-
I use a speed and temp. It is the most important piece of electronics on my boat for catching fish.
Although the temp is a very important factor, the speed is what is most critical because it shows me the deeper currents and speeds which can be hugely different from the top or middle depths of the water column.

Thats cuz yer rich Mark! Or just lure krazy like most of us! Gotta have it! Gotta have it!
I would guess that "just getting started" would mean you want for you and say.....one buddy to fish.
Two manual riggers w/rod holders.....6 quality rod holders.....4 inline boards....4 dipseys......2 rigger rods.....2 high line rods....4 dipsey rods.....2 full core.....2 half core....basic spoon selection.....basic attractor and fly collection. This will cover bout anything that you might chase. I figure if you go low end but workable gear.....about $1300.00.
If you check the various fishing forum classified ads, you can either save some bux, or get some decent used gear for the same price.
Course once you get started, it's like an addiction and you'll just waste all yer money on it. So why start small?

My 32' has fished 10 comfortably but we don't trailer her fer sure, my 18.5 fishes 4, tho three is perfect and with the tandem axle trailer and surge brakes can be pulled by a smaller P/U.
-
My core rods are 8 1/2 ft. except my 15 color. I run them on 10 ftrs. cuz sometimes I will run one down the gut and I can get extra clearance. Sometimes the extra length is a pain, but it all works out. I run Penn 320's for 2.5 and 5 color, 330's for 7.5 color and full core, and shimano 700's for the 15 color.

For Salmon and Trout, St. Joe of course! But there is a special place in my heart for Frankfort. Very nice area with great fishing.

Hey fella's! Good to see you made it! I've been doin a little huntin. Gettin fat and sassy! Gearin up for 2006!
Come on March!

Yes Rick, there are a lot of familiers here! Hope to see you on the water!

Ditto to GLF and Midway.
I have speared a total of 1 northern in my life many years ago. I found no sport in it. I also have seen some awesome pike lakes ravaged by spearing once the word got out about the behemoths in their waters. Guys spearing limits of 10+ pound fish made me angry and sick!
I do enjoy the sport of handlining walleyes and many believe that isn't sporting either.
And where is the sport in targeting spawing bluegill on their beds? Too easy. No sport. Still legal and done by many every season. I have seen some awesome bluegill fisheries go by the wayside because of this too.
However, until the DNR sees fit to change the laws, all I can do is what I think is right for me, while trying to pass my values on to others. Some will agree, many will not!!
And I believe that others on this site did find value the post on this topic. No one persons values should not play a role in the type of topics of information posted. If a PETA complained about the posting of any injury to fish, I wouldn't want their values to matter........
...................so please continue.
There, I'm done.

"MANOFISH DESTINY " IS STILL FOR SALE BY THE WAY.
I will be listing it in the classifieds as soon as I get a new digital. I would import some pics from that other site if I knew how. But alas, I am not savvy enough for that.
Lower price, and full day charter on Sportboat thrown in.

Offshore makes a strobe that attaches to the flag on their in-line planer.
If you've ever fished Little Bay DeNoc you would see em. It looks like a parade after dark up there!

If you'd eat my cookin, you'd hope I set it on fire!

Another very informative article! Now where's the part about how to train them to eat gobies, zebra mussels, and asian carp?
-
Excellent to see another fish hunter on board! There are alot of quality people here!
What port(s) do you usually fish?

Steve, I heard your boat was named Bumper....
My charter is "Sportboat"; again already there when purchased
My other is "Manofish Destiny"; given to her by the Sixshooter
My next boat will either be called "ImmediateDivorce" or "GonnaGetBobbited4This"

You said well about the best reasons to be outdoors in the wild. I think that more than anything else on the job, I enjoy watching how a beautiful sunrise or sunset affects some of my customers who almost never would take the time to enjoy the view if not being held captive for the moment.
