  1. Thanks for the info, guys.

Dave, to answer your question, I'm fairly new to the lakes, so I'm interested in exploring both avenues, spawn and spoon casting.

Se if you can get your hands on a traverse bay tackle steelie rod in the 9 foot or 8 and a half. And I would use the lightest line you feel comfortable with using. I use 6 pound when surf fishing with spawn.

  2. Well I got one from cabelas and I am going to try it today.I got it for $154. It is the 6x6.I tried the ice anchors and I didn't think there were much of a problem. The only thing I would worry about them was when it got a little warm in the spring or just the sun on them. I think they might melt into the ice or out of it. We will just have to see. I needed the extra room.

  3. Yes equal rights(but that will never happen). One of my friends dads said they should fish like they did years ago. Having to use birch bark canoes none of these diesel engine boats. And they should have to put back what they take. Also they even have more hunting rights than we do. And we are paying for with our hunting and fishing license fees. They don't pay for nothing to hunt and fish.

  4. I have seen it all now. Last week I was salmon fishing in Petoskey and landed a nice hen full of eggs. So I let her go above the falls. I was yelled at by some other fishermen that there was an Indian with a spear. And as I turned around he speared the fish i just let go.This is so wrong. What is wrong with this country.

  5. And what in the heck happened up there on some of those inland lakes with all the pleasure boaters and waverunners? We've been going up there for years now and this is the first time we've had issues, holiday weekend or not! We pretty much got blown off of Lake 15 by 2 power boats towing tubes and 2 waverunners. First time ever! Water was a muddy mess from the boaters and the wakes, oh my God, we have a little 14 footer for inland fishing and we got nervous a few times. It was a shame. DNRE needs to put a 10 horse power limit on some of those lakes up there. God's country, but not for long if this keeps up.

You are right about the big boats on the smaller lakes. I only know of 2 lakes in the Gaylord area that has a no wake law after 7:00pm.

  6. I'm in manistee right now. We're catching fish straight out and south in 100-200 fow early and 250-400 during the day. Riggers down 80 are hot. Moonshines and glow plugs. Wire divers back 200+ with a chrome paddle and green fly are also producing fish. We'll be here till Sunday. Goodluck!!

When you are fishing over that deep of water how far down are you fishing at midday?I can never catch anything during the day.Just when the sun is about to go down.

  7. Just letting everyone know that there is nets starting about 1/2 mile south of the red can at Charlevoix. I think it is a gill net,a long gill net. They might have put out more because they went a long ways from where they dropped the first flag.I am not even sure if they are supposed to even set them in that shallow of water.

Also the weather service needs to learn how the give marine forecasts. They were calling for 2 feet or less and it was actually 2-4 feet last night. I also think some were 5's.
