Well the only launches around Gaylord or East Jordan for that matter that you had to pay was the State Parks or the city launches. There was no signs that stated that you needed a launch permit. Now you have to have one for even the small lakes.Take Dutchmans bay launch. You never had to pay to use that launch and now you have to pay $6 to launch.Or the ironton Launch you didn't have to pay.

Glad we didn't come up Sun.We ended up up getting 20 miles from home and had a bearing buddy come off so we just went back home.

if you look at the website there is no such thing as a free launch. depending on which jurisdiction it falls under you either need a waterways sticker or a state park sticker. The thing is is that the DNR never really enforced things the way they should in certain areas so people thought they were free. I have an uncle that was a parks manager and was in lansing for a while in the parks division (retired now) and two uncles that are COs and here about what other parks and COs are not doing that is their job. Also when i got out of high school i worked for the fisheries division for three years before deciding to go to college, and we always were to report vehicles in those type launches when we went out to do creel checks or plant fish.
Well most of the dnr public launches up here in northern Michigan that are not city launches or state park launches you were not required to pay. And now you have to have a launch permit. But if you want to go to a state park you have to buy another sticker. Our state DNRE sucks.I guess they are just trying to get us to fish only certain places. Because most people can't afford to buy both.
-
I just heard that the DNRE is starting to charge $6 to launch at most of their free launches. That's not good. when these were free to launch and now we will be charged. You can buy a season pass for $24 but you still have to have a separate sticker to get into a state park or vise versa.

Nice mess of fish maybe see you up there today. Not sure yet. I have to see what the crew wants to do.

Well i got a leadcore set up today. I got a fullcore. Shakespeare Arsenal reel and a med.action blue diamond downrigger rod(I think),it is in the barn right now. Thanks for all of the advice but I had to buy what I could afford.I just hope the rod is not to lite.
-
So now that i am interested what pound test of leadcore should I get?
-
I thought it was on July 10.
-
Well I rarely go any faster than 2.5mph. I am just not sure I want to have 100 yards of line behind the boat if I were to go with full core.Does leadcore catch that many fish that I am missing out if I don't get some?
-
Thanks guys. Will full cores give me about 50 ft. depth?
-
Now is Lowrance going to have to pay royalties on their side imaging.
-
So if I went with half cores. What kind of depth can I expect?
-
So it sounds like I need to decide on how much core I want to run.
-
Well I am not sure how much leadcore I should run. Probably half or full core. Now can you put a full core on a reel and only let out what you need at that time. Like lets say half core one day 3 colors the next and full the day after.Rod doesn't matter I can get a downrigger rod for it.I am not sure on price yet just on the cheaper end.
-
I was wondering what is a good reel and rod for leadcore. I need it to be on the cheaper side because funds are tight.
-
Great fish.
-
Thanks for the info.If I do come up I might give you a call to see where the fish are at. I have fished there before so i do know a little bit about the area.
-
If I were to come up there what size of spoons do I need? What kind of body baits are good?
-
Thanks for the report. If I can get the boat ready for next weekend maybe I can get up there.
-
Frank, that's what I am saying about the salmon fishing shows an a lot of the others. You just watch them reel in the fish and maybe tell you what they were using but not say how they did it.
-
Mostly the ones about salmon fishing the great lakes.
-
Don't you think all of these fishing shows should have more information on how they are actually fishing, not just show them catching fish. The techniques they are using and actually telling how they go about doing it a certain way.
-
Smelt? Didn't think there were any left.lol
DNRE charging at free boat launches.

I have been fishing there for years and never saw a sign until yesterday. It is a new sign right where we always get the boat ready.I never saw the can where you put your money in either, until yesterday. The same thing with Ironton's launch.
