I took a small spike buck opening morning. It was very foggy and it was the only deer I saw. Nobody else in our hunting group has seen one either, so I guess I am lucky. I'll never complain about meat in the freezer.

Good advice. That's why we need to keep things "Ship Shape"

Awesome, congrats on the first turkey.
16 lb would be an absolute monster of a hen, you sure it wasn't a jake?
Tim
I guess it could have been a jake. The 16 lbs was just an estimate from the landowner, we never actually weighed the bird.

OK, no it wasn't that dark when I shot the bird! I guess the picture did not take. It was about a 16 lb. hen.

My dad asked if I wanted to sit in the woods and hunt turkey with him yesterday evening. How could I resist. He put me in a stand at the edge of a harvested bean field. I was faced into the woods when I looked over my shoulder and saw a bird. It was about 100 yards out and I was pretty sure she couldn't see me. I never thought she would come towards me, but she did. At about 30 yards, I took the shot.
My first turkey ever.

Thanks everyone. Looks like I'll put a new fuel pump on next year's budget. Anyone know where I can get the conversion? Can I just go to an Evinrude dealer or is it aftermarket?
-
Looks nice to me. Enjoy the new ride!

Gord, I always enjoyed your pictures. Thanks!

Very nice setup! So simple too.

Love those pictures! Good job.

I can't compare the two, but I put the 788Ci Humminbird on my boat this year and loved it. One season so far and no problems. I agree with you though about how the transducer snaps into the mount. But the clarity and accuracy of the GPS is what sold me.

Count me in for a few.

Aaron, we were both right. That primer solenoid had a diaphram in it that was ruptured. The rupture allowed a heavy stream of fuel to the carbs, flooding them. Should be an easy fix, except for the fact that I can't get the part till Monday. Thanks again for the help!
-
Id say first thing to do is determine if its an issue of the motor getting to much or not enough fuel. are you able to smell gas when you crank the motor over?
IMO it sounds like you need to clean the carbs because its getting flooded...(but my guess its just that.... a guess)
Thanks Aaron. I don't smell gas when I am cranking. I pulled both carbs out and soaked them pretty good with carb cleaner and they seem to be much cleaner. All the gaskets are in good shape and I can't find a fuel leak at any hoses or connections.

My Evinrude is having issues. I can start it cold with starting fluid and it will run like a top until I shut it down. But once it cools down again, it won't start without starting fluid again. Bulb from fuel tank pumps and gets hard, but still no start. Any ideas? There is a "primer solenoid" on the engine, but I am not too sure of it's function. Anyone know what this does, or if it could be part of the problem? If so, anyone know how to check if it is operating correctly? I guess I should mention it's a 40HP Evinrude 2-stroke. Thanks for any help.

Thanks for the link Jason. I keep a copy of that on the boat. I usually reference it while my wife is driving and vice versa. Her favorite saying is "we may have the right of way, but not everybody took boater safety".

Nice pile of meat! Sounds like fun.

It's been awhile since I've seen a cooler like that. Great job!

I used to have those. They came used with my boat. I ended up switching to Cannon manuals later. I had the handle break off the plastic reel. Also, the clutches were worn out and hard to hold the depth. But I think if you buy new and keep them maintained, they should last you awhile. From what I hear, Big Jon has great customer service, so if you do have a problem with them, I'm sure they would take care of you. Happy shopping!

Great job! Thanks for the report.

Nice job Shawn!

better safe than sorry.
Yeah, I'm thinking that already. Thanks.

I have an Evinrude 40hp 2 cycle outboard with the oil injection fuel pump. I went to put oil in my tank only to realize my dad used my oil bottle to mix his fuel for the chainsaw:mad:. I managed to dump about an 1/8 qt. of 40:1 mixed fuel and oil before I realized what I was doing. Should I dump the whole oil tank (about one gallon) and start new, or will the gas in the oil not hurt anything?? Thanks.

It's a Uniden President MC 480. It's old, but works last time I used it. Has the mounting bracket. Free to anyone who wants to pick it up. I live in the Portage/Schoolcraft area. There is a whip type antenna that goes with it. There is no connector on the antenna however. PM if you want it.

Tasted mild compared to store bought but not too gamey for me. I put the breast in the rotiserrie with a coating of olive oil for about four hours. It was very good. Had some great sandwiches for a week. The legs went in for a soup. I liked the breast meat better.
