  1. i disagree somewhat with the previous posts, somewhat.....I generally troll fast, like 2.4-2.8 on my depth raider and i consider myself more of a flasher fly guy than spoon guy. I feel it is more important to find a program that works for you and your boat and perfect it.
  2. love my depth raider. lots of opinions on SNT units out there but they don't really matter as long as you are happy with you choice. here is a picture of the clincher connection. I have been running it this way for as long as i have had my depth raider. works great as far as i am concerned. I do not have auto stops on my vectors, but the clutch is silky smooth and does not worry me. I can see your concern with the walkers though. I have seen other antenna options (Scotty, maybe?) but have not tried them personally. http://www.greatlakesfisherman.com/gallery/files/1/7/5/0/clincher.jpg' alt='clincher.jpg'>http://
  3. for me, i usually have a chosen location before i leave the dock and most likely a back up. my location to start fishing is usually chosen for many reasons, mainly networking and fishing days prior. Like stated, marking fish on the graph does not always correspond to catching fish, and vise verse.
  4. thats awesome! great job, hopefully many more days like that!
  5. nice fish! Had a case of the not going far enoughs yesterday too. decent fish outside the reef, but "the hills" was a lot better apparently.
  6. the biggest difference is Blood Run is much more user friendly. There was a huge advancement in copper when the nickle plated stuff was introduced a few years back and Blood Run has taken it to another level. Blood Run copper is softer and more pliable than any other copper i have ever used. The 32lb copper fishes very similar to leadcore. No issues with huge back spools trying to send out the copper. Its fisherman friendly with the advantage of being able to fish the same target zone with less amount of line as similar leadcore setups.
  7. with the weather we keep having down here, i cant believe you can even make it to the rock! Nice fish!
  8. sounds good! I actually got the collars but i over estimated my dogs neck size. have to send them back and get the right size. everything is all good. Had a stressful trip on tuesday. Water was rougher than....well we all know what. Had no first mate. Broke off three ski boards and lost everything, including the fishes. Had a guy sitting next to me in my seat the WHOLE trip. My auto pilot wouldn't hold. another guy stood in my cabin and decided to puke where he was standing. and one of my vector rod holders just feel apart for no reason. The final straw was looking at my customer log which is required by my insurance company and only one person filled it out seriously. couple beers and a nights sleep and we are all good again. actually cant wait to go fishing again! I will say if the lake was that rough everyday, i would have my boat for sale
  9. great pics! I love those beautiful lake trout
  10. Tons of fish all along the shore line. Wind Point south past the bubbler has been great with limits of cohos and a few kings too. We fished saturday looking for big fish and came up empty. Started outside the reef and trolled east out past the third hill, one lake trout and a coho. talked to others who ventured out past 140 fow and they all ended up coming in to the shore line. We also finished our last hour in front of the harbor with non stop coho action. Every boat in the pack was catching fish nearly non stop. Sunday I did not fish due to family situations. The boats that fished had nearly identical action in close to shore. Red Alderton flashers in 6 inch and 9 inch sizes with peanut flies and long tail flies. Yellow and green thin fish was also really good. I don't think it really matters when the cohos are in that thick, just give them something presentable.
  11. i use an arms length (about 6ish feet) of Blood Run Fluorocarbon attached to a "stopper" swivel and bead then to my 20lb main line mono. Most people that do not fish on the big lake do not know when to stop reeling. they are usually reeling from the time the fish hits until the fish is on the deck and you actually take the rod/reel out of their hands. the "stopper" swivel prevents the fish from being reeled up through the rod and into the reel.
  12. each to their own... i would not call myself a fish beater or even say i always use a bat to whack them personally. usually i agree it is a waste of time. I will say on a crazy rough day when standing is a challenge, having a fish flopping around while trying to unhook them has led to many hooked fingers.
  13. I know, I was just joking......Some guys around here go crazy with the whacker like the fish just stole their birthday. the meat does get bruised periodically when these performance enhancing drug abusers are aboard. As far as bruised meat with just a quick head whack, I do not have an answer for that. Maybe there is a bully in the "school" and the fish are bruised up prior to being caught?!
  14. you're supposed to hit them on the head! If you Rodney King them, they do get bruised meat.
  15. you could try a 35lb or even 50lb Spro power swivel instead of the heavy duty swivel. much smaller.
  16. Not for me!!!! I would have anxiety attack if i was in a pack that bad. I like fishing by myself. I agree with the others about not fishing a chute core. in really rough days i have done it. just moved it to the side when needed, but that was on a 40' boat.
  17. 60lb Spro, that one of the places i use the heavier ones. I know some people tie them on directly but i like to be able to unhook it if its tangled, etc.
  18. I use 45lb mostly, and 60lb once in a while http://www.spro.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=SBSCLB-ALL
  19. i use Spro for everything. They were the first that I was aware of having super small but strong terminal tackle. Just stuck with them ever since. something about firemen, we don't deal well with change. great saying about the fire service, "one hundred years of tradition unimpeded by progress." Unfortunately this spills over onto the boat for me too often.
  20. Not sure if it really fits as news, but its a good commentary read for all the Wisconsin guys. http://www.jsonline.com/sports/outdoors/121293273.html
  21. i'm planning on coming over for the Grand Haven Offshore Classic. As long as I can keep steering my charters away from that weekend I'll be sipping on some Michigan cold ones!
