  1. For everyone who has signed up I just wanted to let you know that the drop dead date for getting me T-shirt sizes is June 13. I already have 7 teams that have sent me their info. No rush because I understand sometimes it's hard to lock down a crew but in order to get everything done on time I have to cut the date off at that time. For any team that doesn't get me sizes by the 13th I'll be ordering 3 shirts per team in random sizes with most being XL to cover you the best I can.

Thanks again for signing up and helping a families dream come true!!

  2. Just go ahead and use your planer mast and big boards. The only issue is when you start getting into mutiple cores and you want to keep your deepest core closest to the boat while your shallower cores are out farther. You don't have to worry about that now so don't. In your particular situation the only downside to the mast vs the in lines is after the release you will have slack in you line for a period of time. The inlines don't allow slack in your line. My experience is that this is a minor issue though.

Laurvick orange releases work for power pro. I've seen those releases used effectively from walleye baits at 1 mph to musky baits at 5 mph and numerous braided lines. Never a problem with premature releases. However the shower curtian and rubber bands is a heck of a lot cheaper.

  3. Getting ready to order a 1500yard spool of PP for some copper and core rods and was wondering if anyone has had more success with one vs another? I have one rod with yellow and several others with green. I'm just wondering if anyone thinks color makes a difference on the cores and copper.

btw my yellow rod is my most productive but that may have everything to do with depth and nothing with line color

  4. I would like to have it on when the ball is going down or coming up and also have a momentary switch when the ball is not moving up or down so the position can be checked w/o moving the ball.

Agreed. Have both number 1 and 3.

    Excellent idea by the way

  5. Nice bear Tom. Is that from this year?

Thanks. Yessir that was Sept 07 in Ontario. My Father and Brother are hunters and I'm a fisherman so this trip works out great. I planned on hunting 2 nights and this guy came out 45 minutes after sitting down the second night. The rest of the 6 days was spent catching walters, pike and brookies on lakes all to myself:D

  6. I've never fished out of muskegon. Can you launch a boat that drafts 3.5 ft of water out of Fishermans landing or is it kind of shallow like Port Sheldon?

Holy smokes! I've been on a 33 ft weekender that we can get up to 2.5fow. That's some serious draft ya got there.

There's plenty of deep water to stay in launching from Fisherman's. Do you have a chip with depths for your gps?

You can follow the lake channel all the way up to the piers. It's very wide and plenty deep.

  7. For those of you who have never fished this event it truly is a blast. It's the most looked forward to and well attended event of the year. The fact that everyone has to use the same exact tackle evens out the odds for everyone.

From two guys in a 16 footer to 4 guys in a big glass boat you can only run 6 rods and run the spoons/SD/and flies you're given that morning. The colors given in the kits have always been dynamite. Conversations at the weigh in always revolve fishing tactics and you'll always walk away with some new things to try.

The timing of this event couldn't be better either. The kings are thick near the end of July at Muskegon and limits have been the norm.

The $40 lure package you receive would cost a minimum of $56 ( most likely more) at any tackle shop.

The top raffle prize of 2 capt pak electric riggers is valued at close to $900!! The other raffle prizes thus far are similarly impressive. That's more than some big money tourneys and you don't have to have the best catch to win it

The best thing of all is that while we're having a great time making new friends on the water and at the weigh in... We're helping a young man or lady and their family create outdoor memories that will bring smiles and sometimes joy-filled tears for the rest of their lives.

    Hope to see you there!:beerchug:

  8. FRANK......ive heard some guys say they watch the dipsy's to tell them the speed they are running.....do you know anything about how this is done?? what they are looking for....etc...ect.....ANYBODY feel free to chime in and share!!! THX!!!!

Guys know what their dipsey rod looks like when they "normally' catch fish and that's where they'll start. Keep changing speed and direction until you hit fish. Once you hit the fish take note of your direction, surface speed and angle on your dipsey rod. Then try to recreate those things to catch more.

  9. Terry,

I think that was my best picture that I took on the lake all year. It sure looks good to me to. Wish I had more fish pictures from everyone else.

    Rich

Sorry Caz. Didn't know you were looking for pics. Not a lot of fish pics but still gets me through til April:beach: here's a few of the ones I took form this year

  10. Possible solution to your limit dilema. Hand out zip ties with your lure package. Place zip ties on your first 2 man limit and then keep as many fish as you want to fill out your boat limit. Only weigh fish with zips. This way you solve both issues.

Yes this does allow for a team to possibly bend the rules, but really, there are so many ways to cheat in this if somebody wanted that I don't think it's an issue. Trust is an all or nothing thing.

Just a humble suggestion from someone who does travel from 3 1/2 hours away:)

  11. Word of warning when dealing with raymarine. Once your unit goes out of warranty it is $350 to fix anything on the unit. It's a fixed fee. I had the internal battery die on my GPS and they said $350 to replace it plus S&H. A friend of mine had the same issue and found out that it's a $3 battery. I had a very different experience than you did Dave!! I will never do business with raymarine again!:angry2:

  12. When: August 20th

    Times: 6:30-noon

Where: Muskegon. Weigh-in at Fishermans Landing

A friend of mine is running a tourney out of Muskegon for the Benefit of Make-A-Wish. He's the former president of the local UAW at Autodie in GR. Anyway great guy and great cause.

No website for info but basically it's $100 to enter. No money prizes just trophy's. All money raised goes directly to Make-A-Wish. They usually have a kid and the family that goes on a charter and comes for the weigh in. Last year was the first one. We had about 17 boats and I can tell you it was a great experience. First of all fisherman and ladies are already the best kind of people but get them all togehter for a good cause and the attitude was just awesome. There's usually a gathering the night before and a big cookout after the weigh in.

I'll be there as Team Dirty Laundry with Sixshooter and Mrs. Sixshooter on my crew.

If you're interested you can call Jim Wilde at 616-893-8485 or e-mail at [email protected] for info and rules

Here's an article about last year
