Anybody here ever target browns in superior? I know they are here from catching them time to time.
Seems like if there is any type of population here that lake Michigan tactics would hold true in superior as well. Any thoughts??

We still use squids in the early am with a little sushi and a 1" glow stick tied inside the body with great sucess in superior and northern lake michigan. Still a few others i know that use them but not many it seems anymore.

When I lived in the U.P I was blessed to have been given tickets each year to Lambeau. 49 yard line, home side, 8 rows up. A guy I built a house for was a season ticket holder had been for I don't know how long and never attended....just gave tickets to his customers, he was pleased with the home I built him, knew I was a Packer fan, and made sure I had tickets (2) each year to show his gratitude.
When I left the U.P. I remained a loyal Packer fan, and one of the biggest regrets was having to give up those tickets. If any of you can ever expierience the thrill of Lambeau you'll remember it forever, it's not like any other stadium that I have been to and the fans are extremely loyal.
My family was obviously watching the game last night, on the edge of our seats at times.....and thrilled that the Packers won. That being said, I was very happy to see the grace and sportsmanship the Steelers coach and players showed in the loss.....my hats off to the Steelers. Their head coach seems like a pretty amazing young man and I bet he'll be around for a long time.
I second that on Lambeau field and that is coming from a die hard detroit fan that goes every year with all packer fans! Brutal....I know!!
I have been at the packer lion game in lambeau for around 13 years in a row now and we have tickets on the 50 yd line 9 rows up behind the pack. May have been sitting right behind you! If you remember the crazy yoopers.....that was us!

That's a great video Mark. I saw that last year and thought about trying that rig for the hog lakers in superior. Only time ended up fishing lakers last year was jigging stannard rock for them. Maybe this year.
Btw....love the hewes craft:thumb:

We house a brand new $60,000 hovercraft in one of our shops for our local sherrifs department just because of this type of thing. They destroyed the old one running out in a similar situation for a break through rescue last year. The hull was ripped to shreds by all of the choppy shove ice WAY out on the lake trout grounds.
You won't catch me out there either, but for the guys that still risk it...the new hovercraft has more ground clearance and a full kevlar hull:thumb:

Have a friend from the copper Country who planned to fish Stannard one day, through the ice. They went out there with a bowling ball on board which they planned to drop to check the ice to see if he could land his Cessna 150. Instead, this is what he found, and decided he better wait for another day:no:
Great pic Mike! Thanks for sharing that one. Ive never seen the rock like that before:thumb:
Great Story.....crazy yoopers!!

In Cabo for an 8 hour trip they like to see no less than a $100 tip, which is right around 10%, and that is coming from the fleet owner. Best thing you can do is get yourself educated on the different tactics used to catch different fish and just straight out tell these captains what YOU want to do. Some of these guys are not very ambitious and it is your dime. Be as proactive as you can because with some there is a little language barrier that only hurts the customer if you dont know anything about what kind of fishing you are doing. There are tons of resources on the web to get yourself familiar with this even if you have never done it before. On the smaller marlin tuna and dorado don't let them sit you in the fighting chair ask for the fighting belt if they don't offer, it is much more fun.
Check out the video tutorials here This is the type of fishing that you want to do if you are going to tip more than 10%!!

I only bought two more rods for the riggers, I have 4 already but two are light lines, for stackers....I'm just looking for the best advice and so far it's going for lead, but I do not run boards... so it's sort of mute..to have leadcores...
No No Robert. My best core line overall through the years is 8-10 color straight down the chute:thumb:

It may hold on? They have changed the long range to just normal temps v below normal. When will you be down?
Looks like we are coming down on the night of the 23rd and leaving the morning of the 27th. If it holds on it would seem that the only opportunity would be the 26th?

This topic is a true testament to Mikes vision of how he wanted this site to run. It's an easy feeling here at GLF, even for those of us who don't know everything there is to know yet:grin:

Downriggers: Electric or Manual?
in Salmon Pro's Connection
Posted
Electrics can be much more convenient, coupled with auto stops when the fishing is hot and heavy. They are not a necessity for a beginner IMO. I fished with manuals for years before i had electrics. As RodM said the majority of our fish seem to come off of the dipsy's, lead core and copper off the boards and this is the program that is not near as simple to run as the DR's and takes some time to figure out. I would take the money you save on buying manuals out of the gate and deal with the little bit of extra work and concentrate on the rest of your program because that is where the majority of the work and cost are in this type of fishing. This is just the way i see it though:thumb:
Good luck! Welcome to GLF and the sickness that come with big lake fishing:grin:
