  1. Took a nice 30 mile run to the big reef today with a couple of buddies to do a little scouting for the Grand Marais lake trout tournament coming up in a couple of weeks. Guaranteed 4k first place prize:eek: Big money for a 30 boat trout tournament!!

Got out and just ran around the shallows near the drops watching the graph and didn't mark much at all. Dropped down in each set of marks and caught a couple to a few in the 6-10 lb range and kept pulling up and searching for the big boys and found that we didn't have enough cable on the riggers to get to them in 5-600' of water. They either have not come up yet or just decided to stay down today, but it is early yet. All in all it was a fun run and boated and released somewhere around 15-20 fish. Any spoon we tried worked and picked up a couple on musky torpedo divers that we had bouncing bottom in 130' with 300' of line out. Here are a couple of pics of the sunrise and a couple of the nicer fish we caught.

  2. Great weekend of fishing for the munising tournament and i think it showed that it really was a good choice to move the tournament date because there were definitely fish there for most guys. A little light on the turn out but we hope to see the Marquette boys down next year and improve the turn out. There were so many more prizes than previous years and half the people to give them away to so there were some guys that made out very well at the awards!!

We had a ton of big action on day 1 and just couldn't get many to the boat. Solid second day put us in 2nd place overall with 31.93 lbs and we took a 1st place in the big three division with 26 lbs between two of the fish in the pic below and the big boy from day 1 below that. I know this is nothing for lake michigan but this is encouraging for superior:thumb:

  3. If you want to use them exclusively as leaders it makes sense to buy it like this. I may be a sucker and like Nick says i have no proof it works better, although it seems like it has made a difference. I don't like knots unless i absolutely have to have them so i have been spooling on nothing but light flouro that has held up well to big late summer kings so i have been using chunks off the big spools for leadcore and copper leaders. Maybe its all propoganda....who really knows if the fish see the line and it ruins their appetite:grin:

  4. 40 deg water! Burr. Nice to get the boat out. Are you fishing the tournament next weekend?
Nice job Bromley. Good to see some slime on the deck for a change!!!

I am going to fish the tournament just not sure if we are going to fish lake trout or salmon division. It depends on the weather as they expanded the boundries so that you can fish the big reef this year and it is one of the top 3 big trout fisheries in lake superior.

It sure was nice getting the deck slimy.....only fished 8 times last year so i am already 1/4 of the way there!!!:thumb:

  5. Finally got the kitchen remodel to where the pressure is off and decided to take the boat out of storage and drop her in late yesterday afternoon for an operational test run. Everything ran good other than some issues with my troll master and we decided to wet a couple lines and hit a nice 6.5 lb superior king right away on an orange killer off the rigger and then nothing. Water temps were under 40 everywhere we went.

Decided to try it today regardless of the 30 mph wind forcast:eek:....the weather man was right on the money and it was brutal out there. Toughed it out for a few hours of getting tossed around and picked up 1 small coho on a J9 jointed rap and another on the slide diver with a modified caramel dolphin and a descent sized splake off the slide diver as well. Should be really nice tomorrow now that i have the boat out and i have to WORK!!
