  1. The 7'6" will work fine if you are not running any other boards, if you decide to run more boards just keep the shorter rods more to the stern of the boat and angled more down than the longer outside rods. Ugly Sticks are great rods and you won't be disappointed in them. If you can afford a couple of Lead Core rigs to run higher in the water column, then go to a 9' Dipsy rod Okuma makes one that is great for running boards Med action is what I use.

Good luck on your planer board presentations. If you have any problems be sure to post all of your questions you will get great feedback here.

  2. The MC2 was right there just out from Deerlick Sunday in about 28 FOW Managed to boat some nice Perch and just a few Gobies, ended up with 22 in about 1 hour got too hot for the rest of the people on the boat so we headed for the slip and a nice steak dinner. A fellow in the Slip just down from me got a catfish too. Not sure if that was you or not but they are easy to clean. Drive a nail thru the head then filet just like you would any other fish skin the same way.

PS we are slipped at A SUMMERPLACE MOORINGS at the end of Bailey Ave.

  3. Don't give up on the cores, some days it is the only thing working. I know it is a pain in the Butt but she works. I haven't always caught fish on the cores, but I always run them. I run 2 10 color cores a 7 color a 4 color and 2 300' 45# copper rigs all summer. the 7 color and 4 color are set ups specifically for Steelhead high in the water column. Speed can help too I speed up to 2.7 Knots on the GPS in the summer time.

  4. My Okuma 55s both work great with the albright knot and the rods I use are the Eagle Claw 408's 8'6" the guides are large enough to get the knots thru, I use a 40# Power Pro Backer and about 40 feet of 20# Berkley Vanish fluoro carbon for a leader. The Albright knot is very easy to tie and you can get an instructional easily on the net by googling fishing knots.

  5. Left the slip at 5:30 AM, ran NW to 80 FOW and started to set lines on a NW troll. Got everything set 4 riggers fm 49'down to 82' dn 2 full cores and 2 300' of copper. Had Mark Brand and my neighbors son with me. when we hit 96' the first rigger 66' dn with DW NBK Glow fired, nice 8# king, befor that one was in the net full core fired with Fishlander green all glow Steelhead around 6# , got everything back in place and the 55' rigger fired Fishlander Green all glow another steelhead. Slowed for a bit then as we passed the spot I set as a waypoint on the first strike the 300 copper fired Laker about 5#, next was another King about 15# on 300 copper Green all glow. Then had another hit on the fullcore FuzzyBear bumble bee orange back small king that was hooked thru the gills. Then the rigger set at 66' fired again nice 7 to 8# Skamania Steelhead. Then the 82' rigger with a 8" white pearl flasher and a horsefly fired nice King. Finished up with another King on the 66' rigger DW NBK Glow a really nice King about 13#.

All of the fish came in a very small area around my waypoint and all were between 96 and 122 FOW.

A great morning and 10 in the box by 11AM>

Just a note about the Sea Flea issue, I spent some time on Monday changing my riggers fm braid to cable and changing all of my downrigger rods to Cortland Flea Flicker line. We had no problems with fleas today. But u will notice I did not run any divers.

  6. I currently have braid on 2 riggers and cable on 2, I am going to switch to all cable tomorrow, The Sea Fleas just kill the braid. But for 2 seasons now I have used the Walker terminals for attaching my downrigger weights just tie a double half hitch around the main line after you thread the line thru the terminal end. These ends are available at most tackle stores and are really easy to use on both cable and braid. If u use cable just run the cable thru as shown on the package, I put a crimp sleeve just above the attachment then trim the end.

  7. The stackers are a great way to get another rod on the Downrigger, be sure to keep your leads consistent and like mentioned befor spinnies and dodgers or paddles on the deepest and short leads. I no longer run stackers because I use the dipseys to take the place of the stackers, If you can legally run the rods why not has always been my policy. 5 people in the boat I run up to 15 rods, but if you get really busy u can get into trouble if everyone on board doesnt know what to do. I usually run my flashers and fly combos off the deepest rigger on the boat everything else except Jplugs it really doesnt matter. J plugs search side to side as much as diving and a lead of thirty feet will swing pretty wide across the pattern. Better to get them below your other presentations and just above the flashers.

  8. Well finally got back over to the Lake on a day that was fishable. Left the pier heads at 6:10 Pm. Ran out to 85 FOW and started setting lines. First things first thanks to Andy (2 UNREEL) for the tip on a set up, NBK 49 dn 12' back was very active. We ended up the evening 3 for 5, 2 nice kings and a beautiful Skamania Steelhead about 9# The Kings came on the afore said NBK, and 300 feet of copper with a MG flounder pounder, the steelhead hit a Fishlander Glo spoon called Purple passion, on a 4 color, no pics today the wife lost the camera and I have to get it replaced. We pulled lines at 10:40 and had a pretty good trip the only problem was the Fleas. Time to change over to the Flea Flicker.
