  1. Well the MC2 is finally back in business, left the slip @ 6:00 am and set lines in 40 FOW, gave one pass in front of the piers with out marking anything so pulled up and ran out to 95 FOW set the full spread and headed west with the wind at our back. Had a rip on a full core in 120 FOW, Stingray carmel dolphin, and no one home. Finally decided to pull lines in 190 FOW and ended up with 2 fish as we pulled the riggers both deep riggers went 1 at 78' and the other @88' green dolphin DW mag, and Silver Horde pearl glow black ladder back. Ended the day in 4 to 7' rollers with the tops being blown off with 1 king about 4# and a nice steelhead about 5#s. (When is this wind gonna stop blowin). The water was 70 degrees at the piers and 68 degrees in 180 FOW. Hope to get back out Sunday morning.

  2. Riggers and dipseys with Silver Hordes and JPlugs on long leads leave the cores and copper home for combat fishing. But early just on the outside edge of the dirty water can be very productive when the Kings are staging. There are already a few fish in the rivers, and a good rain will send them running up to the dams. Sad thing is that with 15 to 20' seas forecast for Friday and Saturday I am staying home. Just a note to guys fishing the Mud, that dark muddy water only goes down a few feet and then clears up once u get out past the main river flow. The muddy water is warmer and goes to the top the lower colder water is clearer. Get your stuff up off the bottom and try to run just below the mud and you can have some real battles in that muddy water. If u ever get a chance to fish the fall in St Joe watch the Silver King, he is the King of the mudline, and has been for over 40 years.

  3. I have both the Opti clear snubbers and the LJ snubbers and I get more strikes on the clear, but the LJ snubbers seem to have a little less stretch and the hook ups are more solid. The most important thing with snubbers is use them and keep your hooks sharp. When using any flasher or rotator and fly combo go to the tandem single hook setups over the treble hook set up and you will increase your hook to land ratio too.

  4. The convector CV45l and CV 55l are great reels I use the 45's for my lead core set ups and the 55's for 200 and 300 copper setups they handle it all and have been durable and the drags always perform well. My rigger reels are the Diawa45LC and I use them for any cores up to a 7 color they work really well.

  5. Sharpen every hook before it goes into the water. I have a Lansky hook sharpener in the boat and use it every day. I am amazed at how dull new hooks are on spoons and flies right out of the package. Our catch rate went way up since we sharpen hooks.

This is huge the hooks that come on lures aren't necessarily sharp right out of the package.

  6. KISS principle if you find a pattern get everything you have that is similar down there. (If your full cores are getting his with a plug then set a couple of riggers with plugs at 45 to 50' dn and get a couple of divers in the same area with a plug or flasher) in other words get all your stuff in the strike zone as soon as you find a pattern.

  7. Well the seas were a bit more than the 1 to 2 ft that was forecast, were rolling 3 ft at the end of the piers and settled to 2 to 3 as we moved out and south. The bite was for the most part in the top 60 ft of the water column. We ran a full spread of Hi and lo divers, 4 riggers and 2 full cores and 2 300 copper. The pattern was Flashers and flies on the dipsies, and Silver Horde any glow as long as it was glow or Mylar. We went 5 for 11 with 4 that were on and off befor we could turn them and 1 that straightened out the split ring on a Sampo ball bearing swivel. 2nd time in the last 2 weeks of the 11 hits 5 came on plugs on full cores over 87 to 95 FOW, 4 came on riggers with Plugs and carmel dolphin modified stingrays. And 1 on the deep rigger set at 69' 11 green e chip paddle and a siggs rig green weenie fly. The other was on a hoochie mama 8" flasher with red spinners and a Horsefly. Final tally was 1 Laker on the hoochie mama and horesfly, 3 Kings ( 2 were 4 year old fish) and a beautiful 34" Steelhead that came on a Silver Horde white glow with black ladder back off the rigger dn 66'. The lake did lay down after 9 oclock and it was a beautiful day out there. If you are going out of S. Haven this afternoon be aware of a strong south west to north east current that likes to cross up every thing .

  8. The shallow outside to deep inside V pattern works great, I never tangle cores and copper and I run full cores and 300 copper on the same side all the time the biggest problems can come when fish hit the deep divers and run out to the side and can get into one of the outside presentations, that has happened only once since I started using the V presentation. The charter guy should have his nuts removed.

  9. The fish are staging for the spawn and are holding Bromley said they are feeding putting on fat for the spawning run the next three weeks should see some fantastic fishing up and down the peninsula. Last week we caught all of our fish in 60 to 100 FOW and the 7 color and 10 color lead core was hot as well as the deep riggers with in 10 feet of the bottom. When we marked bait we caught fish.
