  1. Well Saturday forecast for Sunday was off again. Got up and found 2 to 4 footers with a stiff North wind, decided to go anyway. My Friend Terry, his son Eric and 2 grandson's Dakota and Tyler met up with my Partner Mike and I at 7am, and we headed out.

Cleared the piers and ran North to Rocky gap and set lines going down wind. Ran the same all Stinger pattern we had been running, 1,2,4, and 6 colors of lead core, deeper divers set on 2 out 24 and 30, riggers set at 10,12,15 and 17. We caught a mixed bag, 1 King about 13#, 2 coho, 1 Brown, and 1 Steelhead. .

Lake was really rough and there were a lot of boats to deal with. But we caught a few fish for the boys. I still get a kick out of seeing an 8 year old catch his first salmon. Will post pics when I get a chance to upload them.

  2. Thanks for the report. Lots of stuff floating on Tuesday also. Glad yours props ended up OK. A friend with a 25 foot Trojan hit something two years ago just as he was clearing the piers and ended up with some major drive train damage. Can't wait for a little smoother lake before the coho continue north. My wife has this great recipe and we had two meals from Tuesdays catch. Sure are good fish.

Coho the STEAK OF THE LAKE. MMMMMMM GOOD.

  3. Got a late start today due to some late arrivers. left the pier around 8 AM, and fished until we got some stuff caught in the props, limped in and a big thanks to Brian's Marina, got us on the lift and cleared the stuff from the props and got us set to fish the weekend. We ended up 8 for 10, 1 1lb. King, a very unusual 7lb Coho, and 6 standard spring Coho, No pics today as we were more concerned with the trash in the props. The pattern was like Sunday, in the mud line, North south troll, all stingers, Bloody Nose, Glow Christmas, Craigs Christmas and Modified Coyote all took fish. Got pretty rough about the time we pulled lines.

  4. Hey guys been reading this web site for weeks now. What a great web site for fishing!!! I usually go way up north to the boundary waters above superior but my trip got canceled this year.

I've decided to bring my girlfriend with up to St.Joseph and try our luck with steelhead, salmon and possibly walleye from May 9-11. Just looking for info on where someone could fish from the bank and have some success. Piers or rivers? I'll drive. Also while asking, a top notch bait store and breakfast spot that you all like.

Any help is appreciated, I've been struggling with figuring this trip out.

If you want to try the big lake on a Thursday or Sunday I have those days off every week. I do ask for gas donations after the trip and I sometimes keep a fish or 2. My boat is a ChrisCraft 316 Commander Sport Fisherman, and we are slipped at slip 111 in Brians Marina. Just a thought if you and your girlfriend want to try the big lake fishing on the cheap. PM me or call my cell 269 929 4221.

Craigs Christmas, glow Christmas, bloody nose, all were good. South or north troll, 2.2 to 2.9 mph on the gps. Our spread was 1color 2 color and 4 color leadcore, 2 Walker deeper diver 107's set on 2 out 24 and 30 feet. 4 riggers set at 10, 12 15 and 22 feet all leads were 30 to 40 feet. 6. We set lines about 2 miles north of the piers in 25 FOW on a S troll. 4 on board, My friend Terry, my partner in the boat and Jeff. We ran a 12 rod setup, body baits on the high boards, and the 1, 2, 3 and 4 color leadcore. 2 power pro walker deeper diver 107's set on 2, and 4 riggers. The program was body baits on the long lines, pics later, Spoons on all the riggers, 70to 90 back between 8 and 15 ft down. Spoons were all stingers. Had a great morning, we finished keeping 10 fish releasing 2 and losing 2. 7, kings, 5 coho, released 2 shaker kings. We stayed on the edge or in the mud, and only had 1 hit in clean water. Best direction was either N or South, we pulled lines at 12:00 when the wind got so strong the autopilot couldn't hold course. Never got south of the pumping station or north of the North beach.

  8. Does anybody know if the launch is open? I've fished the pier quite a bit and know the area well, but we've never put our boat in there and the plan was to give it a try this spring. Reason I ask is I see nothing but open water out there on the webcam but no boats!

    Thanks!

There are still bergs out in front, u can launch out of Benton Harbor or St, Joe but my Charter captain friends are still fishing the river, because of the large ice flows. Good luck Kevin if you get out let me know how u do.

  9. Let the games begin! No April fools joke this time. Mother nature stalled us about 5 days this Spring, but we are in and ready to fish. 2014 Lake season starts this weekend!
