  1. What a difference a day makes. Saturday Fish were in 85 FOW and Sunday they had lock jaw. Worst day of the year. Ended our day with 2 fish. 1 King 15lbs, and 1 Lake Trout, we had 1 other hit on a 10 color. The Wind change really messed the fishing up. We marked fish all the way out to 180 FOW, and big balls of bait. My friend Dave ended up with 1 fish so I feel pretty good about the day, All of our fish came on 4 color (King) drive by and gone 10 color, Lake trout on 300 copper.

Fishing should get back to good if the weather settles down.

  2. Thanks for the report. I do have a question.

What does the 12's mean? Thanks.

It is the minutes in the degrees North. The port is at about 7 minutes of north latitude, and we were about 5 minutes north of that. Check your GPS readings, the St Joe pier heads are at 42degrees 6.884 min. N by 86degrees29.488 min W. This give a general idea of where we were, others were south and in the same depths of water.

  3. Fishing continues to be very good in ST JOE. We are getting steady action both north and south of the port. I started today in 80 FOW North of the piers, and trolled NW to the 12's, action started in 88 FOW with a nice Steelhead hitting a Stinger Jawbreaker on a 4 color, that fish got off behind the boat, but more was coming on that combo. Trolled all the way to 130 FOW, and turned around and headed back in toward the piers. The program was riggers from 31 to the bottom, ran an 8" echip mtn dew with a home tied pickled sunshine fly and that took a 29" laker. Walker Deeper diver with Stinger glow Christmas on 2 out 75 took 4 fish, Stinger Mary poppins took another king. All of the Kings came on 300 copper and 10 color leadcore, with Stinger bloody nose and Stinger glow Christmas. We ended with 6 Kings, 5 Steelhead ( released 1 12" steelhead) 1 Lake Trout and 1 Coho. We pulled lines at l1:30 or we probably could have gotten our limit. Thanks to Terry Motsinger his wife and Sister in law, Mark and Mike for a great morning in the Joe.

  4. We ran the same pattern we have been running for the last 4 days and the results were the same. Ended the day 20 fish caught 15 kept, 5 released( small kings). Started straight out in 80 FOW, and took abouit 45 minutes to get our first hit. Lake trout 57 down on rigger. The we had steady action all morning a lot of short strikes today but most of the hits were on 4 and 6 color of leadcore and power pro walker deeper diver on 2 out 75. Same baits, Glow Christmas stinger and modified blue dolphin stinger, were hot and the glow stinger bloody nose took several fish. Worked west to 220 FOW and had steady action. 2 youngsters with us had a blast a 15 year old and a 14 year old both got to fight Kings. Final fish count was 2 lakers 2 steel head 2 coho and 14 Kings.

    What a day.

  5. Left the slip at 6:15 AM, 4 fishermen on board. John and Scott who answered the post I put out for ride alongs yesterday. Glad we had them along. Terry, myself, Scott and John had a ball. We went 13 for 24, and had multiple triples and doubles. Tough time keeping things together today, swivels breaking, leaders breaking, and just tough fish getting off. The program was a NW troll at 2.7 mph at the ball, 6 color, 4 color, full cores, and 300' coppers were on the boards, power pro walker deeper diver 107's out 75 and riggers from 39 to 67 feet. Every rod took hits. Still using the Stingers and the glow Christmas and glow bloody nose were on fire. The catch was 2 Steelhead, 2 Coho 1 Lake Trout and 8 kings.

Another great day out of St Joe.

  6. Left the slip at 6:45, just 2 of on board and ran to 70 FOW on a waypoint from last spring just North of the piers and started setting up, 2 10 colors 2 riggers and 2 dipsey's. Same baits as we have been using all spring Stinger glow bloody nose, and Stinger glow Christmas. First fish was a 2# Steelhead on 10 color glow Christmas, and then it got hairy. Rigger at 64 ft fired with glow bloody nose back 70, nice 12# King. All of our hits were on the 10 colors and the 1 rigger. Ended the morning in 90 FOW with 10 for 11 9 Kings and 1 Steelhead. Back at the gas dock at 9:45. Wind was kind of stiff, and the air was cold but we had a lot of fun.

  7. I use both leadcore and copper depending on the time of year. Early spring the lead core 2 color to 7 colors is killer in water under 100' of depth. Copper in deeper water presentations. In spring my leadcore out fishes just about all of my other presentations. Kings, coho and steelhead are higher in the water column than Lake trout. I very seldom go for Lake trout unless I am trying to get some grease for the smoker or someone on board request them. My catch this spring has so far been more Kings than anything else and probably 50% have been on leadcore. If you are new try to ride along with some of the seasoned guys on this site. I always have room for another guy in St. Joe. I usually fish Thursdays and Sundays. This week we are fishing Thursday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. PM if you want to ride along, just be prepared to share the gas bill.

  8. We got a late start. Set up about 7:00Am in 45 FOW and started trolling with the rather stiff south wind. Set up was 4 riggers set from 25 to 40 down with Stingers and Stingrays. 6 color 4 color and 10 color leadcore all spoons same as riggers. 300 copper and dipseys. Best depths were 41 down on riggers, stinger glow bloody nose and glow Christmas stinger. Sting ray glow Bloody nose and Modified Coyote were good. We ended up doing our best on a North troll in 80 FOW. Trolled North and south and had fair action. Dipseys were dead but the leadcore was on fire. Ended up with 7 good size kings and 2 steelhead. the biggest steelhead weighed 13# 6oz on our scale. Pics are of Ted a friend from Ft Wayne. He is not a frequent fisherman and had a great time

  9. Walker Deeper Divers 107,s 8' leaders small spoons and power pro30# out 25 and 30, on the 8th of may 3 man limit in 2and 1/2 hours, divers took 7 of these 15 fish. Don't overthink the deal just use them. This was on May 8, 2014. 15 to 40 FOW.

In the later summer we use wire divers I like the Walker deeper diver #124,s for my deep divers and 107,s for my hi divers. long leaders up to 30 feet but be sure to use at least 30lb leader then u have to pull them to the net hand over hand like the salt water guys. Divers will catch fish when the riggers don't .

  10. Well Sunday was a Struggle in St Joe. Had the Southern Guy Richard Brooks and his girlfriend on the boat along with Terry Motsinger, Brian Brockway and Terry Overloop. Started the day like we did Thursday and it took 2 hours to get our first hit. We worked north to the Cement wall and out to 85FOW. Ended the day with 8 fish 6 kings, 2 were released and 2 Lakers. Rich and Meredith had a good time and all got to haul in some fish. Lakers Came on an 8" Mtn Dew E Chip flasher and home tied Pickled sunshine fly. The kings all came on stingers. We got both lake trout on riggers all the rest of the fish came on 6 color, 4 color and full core set ups. Speed was slow 2.3 mph on the fishawk was best. Water is cold out in 80 FOW 42 on the surface and 42 down 75.

  11. St. Joe is rockin, we started in front of the pump station in 27 FOW, and had our first fish before we had 3 rods set, and it kept it up all morning long. We ended the day keeping 15 out of 20 that we boated, and had 5 other hits that did not stay buttoned. Our best direction was either a north or south troll, between the pump station and Rocky gap. Tournament Friday and Saturday, but fishing should be good. We ended up with 12 Kings, 2 Lake Trout and 1 Coho.

    Here is what worked.
