  1. Too small for dipseys IMO. And if your going to do any amount of fishing for salmon with them id recommend a better quality reel....But, if you cant spend more on a reel, then at least jump up to the 47 size from Daiwa to get good capacity. Cause if its anything liek the last couple of summers your gonna stretch em out to get down to the fish. Plus, big Kings like to rip off Line. Gotta be able to acommidate both scenarios. Good luck to you.

  2. Nope, its our shack, we take full responsability for it. Bummed that it ended up the way it did as we planned to take it down on Saturday at 9 am anyhow. Was quite the shock to see it on the bottom that morning. Its amazing what about 19 hours can do to the ice.. Was great Friday PM when we checked it out.

We also have the hole marked and i encourage anyone that reads this to pass the word on to anyone thats headed out that way. Also, any break downs in the barrier, please PM me and ill get out ASAP. I want to be sure that its well maintained until she heals up good. With the cold we have forcasted im hopefull that wont be too long.

  3. Walleye Base Camp fell through the ice over night. We recovered it in its entirety today. We marked the hole with some large pine bows that are standing vertically and 2x4 posts with caution tape perimeter. This hole is 30' in diameter and wide open. Is approximately 3/4 mile east of the appartments in Linwood.

Also, there are MANY holes between shore and base camp, which was around the 3/4 mile mark. They range in size from 6" to 6' in diameter. That runoff from the bays snow and from shore really made a hit on the shore ice in this region. Use caution.

  4. Started my day off with a text from Jeff from LBM at 7:20 am saying that camp has a lean to it, thinks the south end is through ice.(THANKS FOR THE HEADS UP BRO AND THE PICK AXE) Make some calls, guys are all hung over at Webbers...Fourth phone i call i get an answer...Ghost..Heeeeyyyyyyy Addddaammmmm, whats up. Im like Camp..its underwater!!!!...So, i get my gear ready and head out. First to arrive at seen and the holy chit moment hits me!..Its got a lean, its through the ice on bottom with a 30'x40' open hole that its centered in!...So, i make some calls, talk to FishorDie we're gonna have breakfast..Im like F that, get out here NOW!...So, just after i hang up Night Shift pulls up and i slip my waders on and went in the water to start the recovery. Didnt want to go in the water without anyone around incase something went arye. Got the firewood out and removed a bunch of ice bergs when the cavalry shows up. Got right after it. Ghost was first in and when he went in the entire shack went to the bottom. Now flat, we got to work. Removed two corner panels on the NE corner and one roof panel. Took out the bunks and notice the floor was trying to float up. So, we grabbed stove out everyone got out of the building. Its got bouyancy with the ice under it yet. So, we went to the south corner where the wind had it blown and hooked it with a pick axe. That along with some man power we got it up and the majority of the water drained off. As long as we held pressure on it it stayed up. Put some 2x4's under it and rested them on the ice. Hooked up two quads and pulled it up onto the good ice. Got it disassembled, hauled, miscelaneous items picked up and hole marked in around 3 hours.

So, 8 men, 5 pairs of waders, drills, prybars, ingenuity, 2 quads and yeti strength got r done...Hell of a morning boys, had a blast with you cats once again. What an adventure and memories to last a lifetime...Base Camp 2011 in the books!

So, if your heading out, theres a large hole where camp was. Its a good 30'x40' in diameter. We marked it with a couple pine bows and some 2x4's with caution tape around it...Also, many large holes between there and shore where water drained off. Be careful out there....This is all within the first 3/4 of a mile of shore from Linwood Rd to LBM...Cannot speak for anywhere else.

    Area(s) Most Often Fished:Saginaw Bay and Ludington/manistee

Years of Experience: 24 years on the bay and about 10 on the west side

Boat Size and Info:21' hydra sports

    Boat Name:AJ

I grew up near Saginaw Bay and have been fishing there since i was 5 when Dad got his boat. It turned into an obssession and over time we expanded our recreational fishing to tournaments and then my Uncle got a charter licesnse and dad worked on their as mate. Fishing and hanging around the docks i landed a job of my own on Summer Remedy III Charters and resided on that boat for a solid 10 years. Learned a ton about Saginaw Bay, Walleye and Walleye fishing. Also cut my teeth Salmon fishing off this rig and also worked out of Port Austin or Oscoda in the fall years ago before heading west to Manistee and Ludington...Like is said, i do the majority of my fishing on Saginaw Bay. Start the year avidly pursuing walleye on the ice from December thru late March and god willing into early April. Nothing like pulling walleye through a round hole. Then its time to tukey hunt. Once thats over its back to the Bay from May-late June for walleye, then its off to the gold coast to fish salmon from July-late September. Then its time to goose hunt, then duck season, a little deer and phez and other small game until its time to hit the ice again. Basically if it runs, slithers, flies crawls or swims im in pursuit.:thumb: Michigans outdoors has allot to offer and i try to experience all i can....Too bad we have to work!

  6. Good luck up there. Be careful off the point on the west side around Gladstone, as i guess the ice can get pretty ugly in that area. I havent been up there, but when i was a few years back the locals advised me to be mindful of that stretch. Makes sense, kind of a narrows there and likely creates some current. Stop in and talk to Chris at the bait shop, he'll help you out allot.

Also, at least it will be warmer. It was -32* actual when i was up there a few years back....Fishing was not so good, hotel door froze shut. Had to turn the door knob and have my buddy kick it open so we could get out. We had a good time though despite the poor fishing and the brutal cold. People are so nice up there in da UP eh.:thumb:
