  1. Mike, Unless something changes for me by the end of the week I may not make the Saturday event. I'm leaving Thursday for Oregon on business and won't be landing in Detroit until Friday night around 10:00pm. It is a 3.5 hour drive for me after I get home. I won't really know until Thursday night late or Friday morning if we are leaving early from Oregon. I will be there Saturday afternoon to be in place for the Sunday event. If you can get someone to take my place any buy the lure package from me that would be great. I may be able to send someone in my place. Let me know.
  2. I've never run a Slasher before. Which end goes to the front (toward the rod)? I'm looking forward to this event. See you Saturday.
  3. I talked to Northern King on Monday. I gave them a recap of the tournament and asked them about the hooks on their lures. The hooks they use are VMC, Cone Cut hooks, Size 1.
  4. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- First, thank you Northern King for sponsoring this event. Over 810 pounds of fish were weighed in, with all the other fish that were caught and not weighed in we had to be close to 1,000 pounds. After lure distribution in the parking lot, we were on the water around 4:45am, cleared the pier heads and slowly made it out and set down in 75 FOW and set the first line around 5:10am. First indication that there was fish in the lake interested in our offerings didn't come until 6:30ish. Big rip on a dipsy, blue bubble blue fly, no one home by the time we got to the rod. Fished around 80 FOW with a surface temp of 69, had the Depth Raider on a rigger set at 65 reading 66 degrees. Headed N/NW to find colder water. I kept the probe down and around 120 FOW it started to cool off, at 140 FOW I had 49 degrees on the probe. We fished from 140-180 FOW and started hitting fish. Riggers set at 65 and 75. Slider on the 65 rigger hit, small king. Full core with a 4 oz snap weight, lemon ice ripped, REAL NICE King, until he ran into the wire diver......bye bye fish, did keep the spoon but had to retie the mono leader that was chewed up. Wire diver was next, 200 back, white dodger green fly, nice king. Full core with 2oz snap weight small king. Took the wire diver out because it was more hastle than it was worth and replaced it with a PowerPro diver, same rig, set at 175 popped a small king. 21" Laker on the Fullcore/2oz program. Around 10:30am white dodger-green fly combo picks up a 13 pound steelhead on the troll back in. Way to finish!
  5. Post your photos from the Northern King event here for a maximum of 10 bonus points to your league score. Northern King Green Crinkle Fly and White Dodger was the best rig of the day.

Waves 2 to 4 feet. Friday: North northwest wind between 11 and 16 knots. A slight chance of showers before 2pm. Waves 2 to 4 feet. Friday Night: Northwest wind 6 to 15 knots becoming southwest. 9. Here are the lures for the Nothern King Challenge
  10. Rich, You can add me to the list. Me, my buddy and his young son will be there Saturday. This could be my son's first salmon. Hope for good weather.
  11. Fished Friday night and Saturday morning, slow but we did manage a few. Friday PM: Launched about 5:30pm and went straight to 180 FOW based on a report, the entire lake was flat as a pancake. Set up 8 rods and trolled to 220 without a hit. Turned around and trolled back toward shore, and picked up a small King on a 10 color in 170 FOW, NBK, then the 5 color went twice, again one King one Coho, both on a spoon but I can't remember what it was. Didn't mark much of anything on the graph but the best marks I did have were in 160-170 FOW. Surface temp was in the mid 60's. We went 3/3 Saturday AM: Launched at 5:30am and headed right back to 160 FOW. Marking fish 40-120 down. First rod to go, and it took a while, was the 5 color, small Steelhead, on a small Moonshine Blue Lemon. While we were bringing in that fish, another small King hit a small Flounder Pounder slider on a downrigger. Biggest fish of the day hit the 5 color again, about a 6 pound King. Next to go was a White/Glow SD and White/Glow fly, small King. The 10 color went next, shaker, it was released. The lake was as calm as Friday. Surface temp was 55-58 degrees. Got some pics of a great sunrise. Little to no radio chatter because of the tournament I think. It sounded like we did better than most and I was not impressed with the size of the fish. Where are the big Kings? I REALLY need to hear the drag scream and feel the pull of something with shoulders.
  12. Forget it! Wall Street loves XOM. They are up almost 30 points since this time last year. Most of ExxonMobile's profit is not from refinned product but from profits on crude in storage. If the commidity goes up, they make money without doing anything. I love doing that!
  13. Gas, food, lodging......about $200.
  14. Rich, I had to make the drive once, my 14 year old black lab, liver failure. Hardest thing I've ever done. The pain goes away but not for a while. I still take her collar with me anytime I bird hunt.
  15. Sign me up. I'll be there for the Sunday event and I like this event format.
  16. Slack line = lost fish When a rigger goes off I don't care if you take the rod out of the holder, just reel all the slack up as fast as you can, even more so if it's a slider hit. On some days my buddy has cat like reflexes, he just pounces on any rod that goes off, I never really have a chance. The only exception is a rod on a planer board, like leadcore. Sometimes a fish on a full core might run a bit before a decision is made on who's turn it is to reel it in.
  17. 12lb on the riggers for clean spoons - From Dan Keating. It works well for me and forces you to fight the fish not just drag them in. 30lb PowerPro on the dipsy divers. I'm going to put two more rigger lines in this year for flasher fishing and they will be greater than 12lb, Dan Keating says 17lb should be enough, I haven't made up my mind yet.
  18. If you fish on my boat, it costs you $0. Just bring your own food and drink. I cover all tournament fees, gas, launch fees, and tackle. Occasionally someone will beat me to a launch fee, but that's it. If we should be so fortunate to place in the money, or win "Big Fish", my rules are the boat takes all prize money. I don't care if you reeled in all the fish, the money goes to the boat. I will take the prize money and pay myself for the the entry fee and one tank of gasoline (about $40). This allows me to fish another tournament. The rest is split evenly between the crew. I think this is fair. I feel it is important to pay the crew something if possible, I believe it brings me future good luck. I figure I'm fishing anyway with or without you. There is no increase in my operating cost if there is someone else on the boat.
  19. Depth Raider. I looked at them all, I think it is really the best one.
  20. I picked up a Depth Raider last year and I love it. I also look at the bend in my dipsy rods as a speed indicator.
  21. Not in any specific order: Stinger - Jawbreaker, NBK. Wolverine - Orange Peel, Bob-O, Malibu Barbie Last year on Lake MI, a reg size NBK run as a slider took 5 steelies one afternoon.
