  1. Fished the South Haven 2-Day tournament Sportsman Division this weekend. I had a great time and the tournament was run very well. The new format for the tournament worked out for the fishing was not gang busters. All payouts seemed more than fair. I think only one boat over the 2 days came in early with their 2-man limit. Can't complain about anything but the heat and the slow bite.

Fri: We prefished boating 13 for 17 with our best setup in 145fow with 250br copper and a Kato Silver Streak. We took our biggest fish on the wire 200 out with a Mikes Eye Fly green glow eye and chrome and green spin doctor. Green is good was our game plan.

Sat Day 1: We ended up going 6 for 8 in the 120-130 fow range. Changing many spoons and presentations. Best fish came on cooper with a Kato and riggers with a NBK and Black/Blue glow ladder back spoon. Closed the day sitting in 4th place 11pts behind first place.

Sunday Day 2: Started in 100 and worked out to 130 fow. Looking for Lakers and Deep Kings was the game. We picked up a laker on a Green muffin on a 200br copper. Rest of the fish were random on riggers fixed sliders and nothing on the wire. Somehow we landed a fish wrapped around the wire diver and the rigger cable twice. We ended the day 8 for 10 and that landed us a spot in 5th Place overall in the Sportsmans division. We remained 11pts behind the leader. There was tight weight numbers near the top.

Happy as a clam and stoked to place in the money once again in South Haven. Thanks to my Dad, Brother, Randy(Fishwhisperer)and Jarod(Nee HI) for helping me all weekend we had a blast and a lot of laughs.

  2. You could have blockage in your exhaust manifold water jackets. Theses will block up with calcium or rust over time. You might pull the risers off the exhaust manifolds and inspect the water jackets for buildup. Atleast on my 350 the water combines with the exhaust at the riser to cool the exhaust. I put aftermaket risers in with a better water flow around the perimeter of the exhaust tube.

  3. As far as rules go for Pro and AM, it makes sense to me that the two divisions would have different rules and that the rules for the Pro division would be tougher. South Haven this weekend, all three divisions have the same rules. That just doesn't make sense. Why charge different entry fees and payout more when all three divisions are exactly the same?? That's why I like the cull for AM and no cull for Pro.

Some of the reason behind equal rules was to allow the average weekend warrior to compete against A pro boat that can easily catch a full limit in a weekend. The open division will fall under a different guideline as far as weather cancellations from what I know. In south havens history pro boats wanted to fish when days wrere canceled....its up to the team to pay the fee for bigger payouts if they want. The no cull catch 2 man dnr and weigh 1 man dnr in my opinion makes it fair for all....lucky fish and knowing how to find the big ones makes it fun. A different kind of strategy in fishing than pure numbers.....think about it.

  4. Thanks Shannon and the great sponsors for putting this on.

We fished the 115 to 135fow all morning. We were not marking alot but picking away at them. They seemed to be larger kings so we stuck around. Lost a board and recovered it as well as some good tangles, but had a good day with a surprising 1st finish.

    What worked:

    Greasy chicken wing rigger 83

same color with green dots(new streak don't know name yet ) slider

    Blue flounder 12 color

    MS smolt 300 copper

    Lemon berry 150 copper

    dodee k. 200 copper

    S-SW troll 3.0-3.2 sog
