  1. Out tonight started out in 90FOW south by the nets trolled NW to around 120 then headed west. Lost first fish in 100ft on a Yogart fly 150bk on dipsey was gone when I got the rod out of the holder bummer. My nephew got a nice Laker in 140ft 95 dn on a rigger no skunk then my brother lost one on the dipsey making him 0 for 8 on my boat this year. While reseting the dipsey the other one went off and I got a nice Steelie on a Yogart mirage fly 160 bk. We turned back in around 190 ft dipsey went off and got what I thought was another Steelie on a Yogart Blue Kiwi Finger Punch fly when we got in and checked it was a Atlantic Salmon my first in years. Next we got another rigger hit which my wife grabbed and pulled in a decent Laker. While she was working on that the other rigger goes and my brother reeled in another Laker and got it all the way to the boat his first fish in my new boat only took him 4 trips to not lose his fish. We ended the night 5 for 7 not to bad gonna go back out Sun night for final trip of the year before we winterize. Heres a pic of the fish. Tight Lines Jim
  2. out tonight ended 5 for 7 acually got 2 on flies one on a mirage and the other was a Blue Kiwi finger punch.
  3. Thanks guys after getting skunked the time before was pretty happy to find some fish. Hope to get out a couple more times this weekend don't know if any big fish are left but love seeing the Steelies crashing and jumping out there and wondering which rod they are on. So I will be fishing from 180 to 240 this weekend. Tight Lines Jim
  4. went 2 for 3 covered a ton of water we fished 40 to 60 out front for a while headed out to around a 100 and had one hit which we lost. Heard a few guys out deep reporting some fish so we pulled lines and drove out fished from 180 to 370 picked up a nice Steelie in 180 coming back in so ran south a bit and gota second smalller Steelie in 177 first one on a Hi NRG 80 dn second one on a Nitro spoon 95 dn other than that we washed a lot of lures. If weather is decent will try again this weekend then will start to put boat away for the year got a lot of scrubbing and organizing to do to be ready for next year. Sounds like Mikes new tourney will be a blast. Tight Lines Jim
  5. I have had them out 5 times now and have not got a single fish on them. I ran two of them for over 5 hours today plus sent the other 3 down a couple of differant ways as I pulled one on a half core and another on a full core plus had em down on riggers. Took a nice Steelie 80 dn in 185 ft on a Moonshine Hi NRG and a small Steelie on small chrome spoon with 2 Orange stripes. We fished from 60ft to 370ft sure burned a lot of gas for a couple of small fish. On the bright side the only thing I have caught with them is a bundle of weeds that contained a green dipsey and a green spin doctor with a fly and snubber. I thought I was pulling in a anchor so beleive me they are well built and strong. I was impressed enough to call Tim and ask him what leader material they used. Overall they as good as any fly I have purchased and I would not hesitate to recomend them to anyone I really like the Tournament fly with the single hook added. On a 1 - 5 scale I would give them all 5's there is nothing wrong with them and I am sorry I was not able to land some nice fish on them to send in pics. Next weekend will most likely be the last weekend for this season but I am hopeing to get out at least a couple more times before I call it quits for the year on the big lake. Tight Lines Jim
  6. Well I considered the same idea last yeardid not have a 12v adaptor for my laptop. Thought about buying one but realized laptop was not water resistant as such not sure it would last on a small boat. I got a 12v computer out of a wrecked motor home this spring and plan on installing it in the cabin of my boat this winter. It has a trip computer software program but I did not salvage the GPS antenna. So I was mostly thinking of using it for entertainment as it has a DVD player and have considered getting a TV tuner for it. The biggest concern I have is it is not water resistant either but I could get a water resistant display and use the wireless keyboard mouse setup. But honestly it is a comprimise setup and by the time I purchase the missing GPS antenna and software and a remote display I realized I could get a decent GPS fishfinder combo and not risk my computer. So in the end I am still unsure if the computer will ever go in the boat as I may just get a portable DVD player for something to watch when we spend the night on the boat. Since I have a secondary plan for the 12v computer to use it with my Ham radio gear as a portable station. Which I plan on bringing fishing with me as soon as I get a antenna for it then if the fish won't bite I can talk to friends around the world. On the other hand if you have one of the Tough Book laptops that can survive the elements you should be ok but if not I bet you can get a really nice setup designed for boats for less. I would hate to see you lose the laptop and most of them went survive one wave hitting them we seldom fish under ideal conditions I don't know what kind of boat you have but unless you have a well inclosed cabin to keep it dry I would not risk my laptop. 7. Well I started the year by spending 13g on a boat toss in about another 2500.00 on gear. 6 months later Raythion still won't release the autopilot system so finally gave up and got my money back. Ok no autopilot but still a nice boat. My regular crew had issues all year so no regular crew for the Tournies I had planned so spent most of the first part of year teaching my wife how to drive the boat and not complain about the waves. Ok so she can't swim and is very scared of water over 5 ft deep mix the 2 and she is not happy. As to the fishing we went a lot probably close to 40 trips only got skunked 3 times. A few great trips but mostly average catchs overall better size but still have not got any really big fish like last year. Overall catch so far 82 Kings 21 Steelhead 9 Lakers and 2 Coho. Not quite dbl last years catch but fished 2 times as much. So I guess if you want to catch more fish fish more often. Last year I averaged more fish per trip and also got a few really nice fish over 20lbs. This year the bigger boat let me spend more time on the water and more money on gas but no really great days. Don't get me wrong I would do it all over and had a pretty good time but when I sit like this and do the math and compare the season to last year it is tough to call going from a 18ft boat to a 26ft boat changes a lot. I did a lot of things I never could in my old boat not all for the best as I found being able to run up to 14 lines is not allways a good thing as you can have some unreal tangles. Especially while your wife is learning to drive the boat she would ask which way I wanted to go and I would say any direction you can keep it straight long enough to set lines without hitting anything. But thru all the screaming and messed up gear I got a new fishing partner out of the deal and as such this could be the best year ever fishing. Cuz now when I call home on my back from work to tell her I wanna go fishing for a few hours after work she has the boat ready and the gear laid out when I get there don't get me wrong she will still complain if the waves are over 3ft but she will still fish. All in all a darn fine year even if the fishing was a bit wierd at times. Tight Lines Jim
  8. ANN'S is on Remberance rd west of Wilson does great work on the north west side of GR near Marne. Appearance Products on Division north of 76th does most of the work for our shop and also does great work.
  9. Mike I have cut firewood for a living my 20 year old Echo still cuts great but I broke the throttle linkage so haven't used it in a while. I also have a Husky which is pushing 20 years old it is a smaller model with a 18in bar. I have owned a lot of Stilh saws as well. When I was cutting for a living for a friends company I ran 2 Stilh 056 saws with 20in bars when I left in the morning I took a min of 10 sharp chains when the first saw ran out of gas I grabbed the second when it ran out throw a new chain on and gas up the first saw by rotating the saws I never had a issue I cut with those saws for over 2 years they still cut and ran great when I sold them. I would guess each saw probable cut close to 500 cord of firewood. I bougth my Husky when I was driving a skidder as I needed a light fast saw I bought the Echo as a back up saw and have got years of use out of it. Pretty much any of the saws mentioned will do just fine for you. Probably more important is where can you get it serviced and buy parts? Having to pay to ship it back to the factory sux and since most warranties won't allow a markup on parts many shops won't take parts off the shelf to service a saw they did not sell. I know we do it at our shop when customers buy from out of state dealers to get the big savings and then want us to fix it. Well we will fix it under warranty but won't pay any shipping so it gets fixed whenever the parts show up from the factory. On the other hand if you buy from us will will take parts off the shelf or even rob other units to get you back on the road. So for the amount of use you are talking about where you buy it may be as important as which one you buy. Oh yea and I have a ton of wood here lots of small birch you are welcome to it if you want to come and get it. Tight Lines Jim
  10. Thanks Frank, I hate fishing inside with the crowd so took a chance on bad weather and no crowd. Also with the rain and river flow up and temp going down 7deg in 5 days I was hoping to catch a few running in. Besides gotta check the rain gear every now and then. Tight Lines Jim
  11. True Jason no matter how you look at it it still SUX.
  12. 4 hours of harbor patrol 0 for 1 only saw one fish boated. Tried everything in boat all we got was wet. Only hit came on a Moonshine Hi NRG spoon 18 dn in the channel. I can't tell you how many lure changes we made not to mention speed and presentation changes lost a ball in the channel we pulled a bunch of spoons and a lot of J Plugs as well as flasher fly combos. During the last hour we opened my river boxes and went wild we pulled flat fish Hot N Tots slash baits Rapala's but again all we got was wet. Tight Lines Jim
  13. Well the Tree Huggers and the Democrats will never allow it to happen as far as energy independence is concerned. 20 years ago it was pointed out that we would need at least 10 years to put the oil resource's we have into full production but the Tree Huggers cried that we should not do it cause we would have all of these new alternative fuel vehicles in a few years. Well how many of you are driving them? So that is why we have huge untouched oil reserves and we still need roughly 10 years to put them in production if we can ever stick a straw in them. That is the first part of the problem here is the next where would you like a refinery you see we have not built one in decades cause no one will allow them in their backyard. So we plug away with old slow outdated refineries mostly located in areas where Hurricanes seem to travel fairly often. Couple that with the fact that most of our industries are being outsourced cause we are too cheap to buy American made products leaveing little for people to invest in that is profitable untill the Middle East situation started years ago and investors figured out that any time someone farts over there we shiver and the price goes up. So as the price goes up we cut back and as we cut back so do the refineries cause no sense in making any extra cause that might cause the price to drop. So all summer long the old outdated refineries have worked at 80% or less production. Then here comes IKE which causes a bunch of them to shut down completely and golly gee there goes the price again. So figure out how to fix them and we can start on the rest. Tight Lines Jim
  14. I'm in but then you allready knew that. Sounds like a lot of fun. Tight Lines Jim

  17. AMEN Let's also not forget those who serve as well from the firefighters and emergency workers to our military. 9/11 will allways have a place in my heart for many reasons one it reminds me my wife's birthday is tommorrow. But I will never forget the actual day our entire shop stopped work and everyone stood in front of the TV's watching the towers and all the rest as the second tower came down my phone rang and my son called to inform me that he had joined the Army on the 10th and was coming down to visit before he left for bootcamp. He is getting ready to go back over for the 3rd tour and has close to 2 years over there allready. There is no way to describe the feeling of seeing your only son go off to combat, pride mixed with fear and worry but mostly pride knowing I gave my son solid values and honor for both God and Country. 18. Before this turns into a political argument let me explain my point of view. I am nearly 50 and have lived around here nearly all of my life. So I remember a few things I remember when we bought nealrly all of our stuff from our neighbors and they bought from us so we all grew together. I remember when my dad was forced to buy a GM product cause you could not park a non GM on the lot. The 80's were a great time of growth but like idiots we spent way too much on foreign product. So what happened one by one the plants here closed since no one bought the product they made as plants closed investors looked to make money so to compete with foreign produt we brought in more of it with american labels. And we let foreign companies move here and before you know it the Honda Goldwing has more american made parts than a Harley Davidson. We all used to buy our fishing gear at the local bait shop we knew the guys there we trusted their advice now most of them are gone and we buy from the internet or chain stores. Guys I don't much care which lever you pull in the election box this year the government won't fix this we have to. So for those who think that we can vote in a change who is gonna change us cause until we make a change in our habits nothing will improve. So start thinking about how to keep your money here before it is all over there. Walmart is one of China's largest exporters try and find one of China's importers look hard cause there is virtually none. So look at what you buy and see if you can shop more wisely. Jim
  19. Don't work for OPEC but realize most of our problems our self inflicted some where we got a bunch of morons who think the government can tax and spend to solve our problems. Everyone wants to see the Government tax the rich well consider this most of the government is the richest 1 percent they talk of how they will tax but actually never do. Cause they will fill it with so many holes they will actually pay less then before but everyone will thank them. Oh yea and who was in charge during the last economic recovery Ronald Reagan and Bush 1 but darn if Bill Clinton did not take credit for it. remember that most of the crap these guys do takes several years or more to take effect. Also if you want to fix jobs in this country try buying something made here we all seem to want big paying jobs so we can fill our life with crap made overseas if nobody buys american there will be no jobs here so even if you have to save up to buy American at least your money will help feed your neighbors instead of China and other countries who refuse to buy anything from us. Jim
  20. One thing to keep in mind is that Oil and Gas are publicly traded meaning that the market sets the price. As long as investors think you will pay more they will raise the price so before anyone thinks the Government should fix this check your retirement plan and see how much you are making off of this cause as long as people keep making money off of high oil prices they will stay high. When they finally settle back down or wages and the rest catch up people will whine about that as well. Jim
  21. Thanks to everyone who helped put this together had a great time can't wait till next year. I will fish every event next year so sign me up now and let me know if I can be of any help. Tight Lines Jim
  22. Ran it all weekend with no issues the slower rigger and the modified release worked great. Did not find many fish but no equipment problems. Thanks for all the great advise from all. Tight lines Jim
  23. I have never ran them with the Blacks release's but I allways had better luck with stackers in the past when using differant length rods. I ran a shorter rod on the bottom I also run longer lead from the stacker and get it back away from other lines. But then the more I think about it I am starting to remember why my stackers remain unused. It seemed that way to often the bottom rod would grab the top rod when a fish hit so I will probably stick to sliders. Tight Lines Jim
  24. I run the Off Shore boards and use the red heavy tension clip at the rear. I have never had a problem and I prefer to remove the board with the fish far from the boat also nice to not have to deal with the board while trying to net a fish. Tight Lines Jim
