  1. Fished saturday evening and sunday morning out of pentwater. Started just north of the dunes around the nets saturday evening. The fishing was slow with only a couple of hits until we found a pocket of fish in 60 fow and then the action was fast. Short lead cores 3-7 colors with ace hi double glow plugs were hot as well as the 11" white pro troll hotchip with oceana rapture fly 50' down on a rigger. Wire divers 60-85' back with the 8" green/glow prochip and wild fern fly also worked great. Sunday morning started with great action using short lead cores and plugs. Water was 65 degrees on top but in the 40's not far below. As the sun came up stingray double orange crush, orange killer and killer tangerine spoons were hot on the lead cores. The 30-50 ft range produced most of our fish but we also did well shallower and deeper than that. South troll was most productive with a lot of fish hitting while changing speeds. Lots of immature fish in the 4-8lb range but still a fair amount of mature fish around too.
  2. Took advantage of the calm seas and fished saturday morning and sunday evening out of Pentwater. Sat am produced great fishing 55-85 ft down over 90-120 fow. Lots of nice kings in the teens and a few coho as well. Best setups were the 11" white hotchip with the oceana rapture fly on a rigger 85' down as well as on wire divers 150' back. 225' of copper with green splatter back ace hi plug and lemon ice stingray were hot as well. Sunday evening was picture perfect. Started out in 140 fow with a couple of coho on ace hi double glow plugs on the coppers, then moved in to 85-90ft as the sun was setting and the fish went nuts! Ended up with 5 fish on at once, everything was getting bit 40-60' down. Green glow prochip with the hypnotist rapture fly as well as the blue bubble setup were hot. Ended up with a mix of cohos, kings and lakers. Still lots of mature fish around so get out there!
  3. Fished for perch yesterday out of Holland and did well. The water is pretty warm in close so the nicer sized fish seemed to be out deep. We ended up finding some nicer sized fish 8"-10" and a few jumbos out in 68-72 fow north of the pierheads. Caught fish in the 48-55 ft range but they were on the small size. Drifting has worked best for us lately as the fish seem to be slightly scattered so we dont tend to mark much while driving around looking. Start drifting and you will find some pockets of fish. Minnows and cutbait did the trick. If the water cools off they will probably move shallower and if it turns over they will be in by the piers. Hope this helps, good luck.
  4. Thanks Mike. I think we are done for the year as far as tournaments go. Plenty of fishing left though
  5. Fished sunday morning from the middle of the dunes to the south. Started in 50 fow and went without action until reaching 85 fow which turned out to be our most productive depth. The cold water was only about 30' down after the north wind on Sat. Divers 75'-120' back were good early with 8" white/slick glow prochip with an oceana rapture fly as well as the 8" blue bubble prochip with blue bubble rapture fly. Then 5 and 7 colors of lead with lemon ice and caramel dolphin stingray spoons got hot for a while. Towards the end of the morning the action was back to the divers again with the white/mt dew/crush glow tape prochip and hitman no-see-um rapture fly getting hit well. The highlight of the morning was having a steelhead blast an NBK stinger on a slider set 30' down and then launching into the air from out of the propwash. Also had a couple of steelhead hit a 3 color with a stinger jawbreaker spoon. Mostly 8-12lb kings with one very near 20lbs. Good Luck!
  6. We did not get a steelhead the whole week at little point. I heard of a couple being caught but we got all lakers. The 8" custom pro troll with a white blade, lt green tape on one side and crush glow on the other with a green dude rapture fly was good for trout. The 11" white pearl pro troll with oceana fly and the 11" green glow pro troll with hypnotist fly also got some of our trout. We fished deep around the areas we marked bait fish and the lakers were there. Mostly with downriggers but a few came on deep wire divers. see you in pentwater
  7. Thanks guys, we will never forget that weekend. We had the opportunity to fish in our home waters near pentwater which helped our confidence and ability to stay on the fish for three days in a row. The best depths of water for us were 85-100 ft early and then gradually moving out to 115-170 ft as the mornings went on. We caught our fish very deep for the most part as there was a lot of warm water around. Most fish came around or deeper than 100' down. Our diver bite was the best using 8" pro troll flashers. Blue bubble with blue bubble rapture fly and green glow with a hypnotist rapture fly were the best early. Later in the mornings or when the sun came out the mt dew prochip with the hitman no-see-um fly consistently took some big fish for us. The 11" white pearl hotchip with the oceana fly took our largest fish a 20.75lb king on a downrigger 120' down. Other setups that produced fish for us were Stingray NBK and yellow machine spoons on 300-400 ft of copper using a 4oz dive bomb on the 300 ft copper to get it in the zone. Silver horde Ace-hi plugs in various glow patterns also took fish on the copper setups. It was great to have a tournament weekend with nice weather for a change and the fish cooperated!
  8. Fished straight out of pentwater from 180-350 fow sat morning. Surface temps dropped from the low 60's to 54 degrees around 200'. 210'-220' produced the most action and an east/west troll was best. trolled out to 350' with no other temp changes and little action. The fishing was not as good as last weekend but we got a nice mix of lake trout, steelhead and few small kings. Best setups were 150' and 225' of copper with caramel dolphin and green cory's bait stingrays as well as a 3 color with a stinger orange crush. Also had bites on orange ladder and lemon ice stingers 55'-65' down on riggers. Watch out for floating debris out there. We saw a busted up section of dock floating as well as other large items that could ruin a trip.
  9. Headed straight west from the harbor and set up 6 miles out in roughly 180 fow. Water temp was around 60 on the surface. The water temps gradually cooled off as we continued to troll out. We did not come across any major temp breaks or scum lines but passed through a number of slick water areas on our way out. In 210'-230' the temps were in the low 50's and we caught a variety of small salmon and small steelhead. 225' of copper with green cory's bait stingray and 10 color with blue mixed veggies stingray had the most hits in that water as well as a slide diver 85' back with double orange crush stingray. As we continued to troll west the water temps slowly dropped to 49 degrees and we hooked into some bigger steelhead and lake trout in the 300'-400' depth range. Best setups out there were 3 color with stinger jawbreaker and slide diver 100' back with a stinger red devil. Trolled out as far as 12 miles, then trolled back in and got into the small salmon again when the temps got back into the low 50's. This time through the best setups were downriggers set at 45'-60' with blue cory's bait stingray and green glow stingray. Trolled 2.9-3.1 mph throughout the morning. Good luck!
  10. We are still getting used to the boat but its been great! Very enjoyable to fish off especially when the lake gets choppy.
  11. Had a good fathers day trip out of Pentwater on sunday morning. Started at the north end of the dunes and trolled south from there in 155-170 fow. The water temps were 61 on the surface and 52 55' down. Had good action the whole morning, nothing fast and furious but a steady bite. The current was really ripping as the morning went on. Couldn't get the baits slow enough heading into the current so we had to go with it to get any bites. Downriggers 55-85 down with stingray green dolphin and blue mixed veggies as well as 110 down with a white 11" prochip flasher with oceana rapture fly. Every rod got bit throughout the morning from 3 colors of leadcore with a reg sized jawbreaker to 300 ft of copper with a blue machine stingray. 100 and 150 ft of copper were also very good with a reg caramel dolphin and green mixed veggies stingray. Our biggest fish came on a wire diver 120' back with an 8" green/glow prochip flasher and a hypnotist rapture fly. That setup also took some smaller fish as well. The catch consisted of a couple of lakers and the rest 3-4lb kings with a couple close to 10lbs and one just over. It was a strange weather day as it would blow hard for a half an hour making 2-3' whitecaps and then the wind would just die out for a while and the lake would get nice again. Look out for the nets off juniper beach. Good luck
  12. Fishing out of Pentwater is still GREAT! Fished saturday evening and had another exciting trip boating 20 fish with some very nice kings, coho and lake trout. We found lots of bait and fish in 70-85 FOW off the dunes. Divers back 150'-220' with 8" or 11" pro troll flashers did most of the damage. Riggers 60' to the bottom were consistant with flashers as well as NBK stingray spoons. Both green and white pro troll flashers worked well with the oceana or hypnotist rapture fly behind them. 300' of copper was also effective, and as the sun dropped 5 and 7 colors of lead with j-plugs and the stingray caramel dolphin took some big kings. Get out fishing!! Good Luck!
  13. At pentwater we use the ramp at Charlies marina. It is expensive if you dont pay for the whole year but it is the best one. There is a free ramp on the south side of the lake but it can be in rough shape and no parking. The city has a good ramp for smaller boats that is just down the road from charlies. We will not be fishing the saugatuck tourney. Good luck to those that do!
  14. Fishing out of Pentwater on saturday morning was excellant! Started out in 80-90 fow off the dunes and continued south past the point moving out to 120-130 fow as the morning went on. Divers back 150'-270' and copper lengths from 225' to 400' worked great. Riggers 100'-130' down with 11" coyote flashers with oceana or hypnotist rapture flies were on fire. 8" pro troll green, white, and chart. flashers with wild fern, hypnotist or hitman no-see-um rapture flies took many of our fish on divers and copper. A stingray sized lemon ice and green dolphin stingray also took some big kings on 225' of copper throughout the day. The fishing remained great as the morning went on and by 10:30 we called it a day after boating over 20 fish. A great mix of big cohos, kings 12-17lbs and lake trout made a fun morning of fishing. Good Luck!
  15. Made it out of Pentwater for a short morning trip on sunday. Lake temps were 45-50 degrees after the north wind. Headed south to the point and fished 80-120 FOW with 110-120 FOW being the best. Got into the biggest kings of the year for us with none being under 10lbs and one weighing in at 18.5lbs. The action was not fast but steady with the best action on leadcore from 2-10 colors. Hot setups were a 5 color with reg sized stinger mixed veggies and a 7 color with reg sized stinger lemon ice. Other hot spoons were orange crush and caramel dolphin in the regular stinger size. Marked multiple schools of bait south of the point and caught fish above them. Also caught a couple lakers mixed in. The big kings are around - Good Luck!
  16. After fishing the Grand Haven Tourney last weekend we made it back up to Pentwater for a day on the water. Got the boat in mid morning on sat. and headed for deep water looking for steelhead and lake trout. Nothing but cold water offshore so we headed south to the point where we found a pocket of warmer water inside of 130' that had some fish. Ran mostly leadcore and copper from 10 colors of lead to 400' of copper with stinger and stingray sized stinger spoons. The best colors were lemon ice, caramel dolphin, mixed veggies and corys bait. There was a strong north to south current and the most productive troll was into it or east/west. The fish were in small pockets and when you would get into them it was usually 2 or 3 at a time and usually all on the same side of the boat. We ended up with 10 kings and 2 lake trout before calling it a day. Good luck!
