We pre fished Friday morning in 3-4ftrs and ended up with 3 steelhead and lost a laker. On Saturday waves where about the same we ended up with 2 steelhead and a couple misses not exactly what we were looking for to weigh in the tournament. Sunday started out as the calmest day of the 3 but that soon changed before we knew it we where fishing 3-4ftrs again that ended up building to 5ft+ before they called the tournament at 11am. We ended up with 2 steelhead again and a few missed bites. The fish we did catch came on mostly spoons anywhere from 20-75ft down in 80-130fow. We just couldn't get the kings to bite it seemed that teams either did really good or really bad and we happened to fall into the really bad category. It was a rough weekend on the water with the less than ideal wave conditions and slow fishing but all in all we had a great time at our favorite tournament the BIG RED CLASSIC!

Those are nice perch , are they usually still biting around Labor Day? We have been going to Erie walleye fishing but that's been tuff fishing the few years unless you go way east this might be a new opportunity and maybe closer to home
Not normally but who knows with the way the fishing has been going its been a strange year

We headed up to Holland, MI to do some pre fishing for the BIG RED CLASSIC this upcoming weekend. We headed out Saturday evening around 5:30pm we fished 80-120fow we ended up with a laker and a king and pulled lines around 10pm. On Sunday morning we set lines around 6:00am and fished until 11:00am we worked 80-140fow we took a steelhead in 130fow and a king in 115fow. Meat rigs and spoons did the damage we are heading back up to Holland Thursday after work and will be pre fishing Friday morning for the BRC!

We headed to Grand Haven, MI from my house in Indiana on Saturday morning we left my house at 1:30am. We got the boat in the water around 5:15am MI time. We trolled in the mud for a couple passes with no luck so we headed to deeper water and took a nice king in 75fow on a 300 morgans copper with mixed veggie spoon. We trolled for a little while longer before having to pull lines to run from the storm.

Headed out Friday afternoon to the same area that we have been fishing but we only ended up with 1 lake trout and missed a down rigger hit. We where lucky that the storms stayed north so we could stay on the lake it was a great night to be on the water even with the slow fishing. Sunday we headed to same area to set lines but heard they had moved into shallower water so we trolled into 55fow and started catching them. We ran 6 rods and ended up 5 for about 12 with 4 coho and a laker. We lost a nice steelhead at the back of the boat.

Decided to take a break from the salmon and try for some tasty perch as we had heard of good reports. We fished east of the donut about a mile in 22 fow and managed 38 keepers and about 15 throw backs in about 2.5hrs. We took my girlfriends nieces and the had a blast hammering the perch!

Ok. You're not from Michigan. What is the story you are hearing from Indiana and Illinois DNR?
The same as the rest of the states not enough bait so they cut stocking

When you speak to your Wisconsin buddy, what story is their DNR saying about the health of the fishery?
Not sure as he is from the same area as me in Indiana and Illinois he just took his boat up there this past weekend for his yearly trip it was so good he left the boat up there and is heading back next weekend

After the heavy north winds earlier in the week we where finally able to make it out on Thursday afternoon. We ended up 2-3 in the same area as last reports the lake was still pretty chopped up. With the nice weather we had on Friday we got to take a couple of first timers offshore salmon fishing. We decided to bring my girlfriends dad and her niece and after our long journey offshore to where we had been catching fish we couldn't get anything going. We ran a 9 rod spread we used most of the same baits that have been productive and we even changed things up we just didn't have much action we ended up 1-3. Good thing is it was a great afternoon to be on the water and everyone had a good time! On Saturday just 2 of us made it out we ran 6 rods strictly for kings started in same area as Friday in 55fow but we worked north to 95fow then back south. We ended up with a nice coho and steelhead we released 2 lakers we missed 2 screamers and lost 2 more fish when our 400 broke at the knot along with our 450 both with nice fish within a half hour. We set lines at 4:15am and pulled lines at 8:30am as I had a party to be at not bad action for a few hours of fishing!
