  1. I have had one for a few years, but never hooked it up; it just looked like a pain; so Josh said he had two that he brought. Most of the morning he had a 100’ lead; about 11:30 I asked him to shorten it to about 50’.Shortly threafter we caught a nice king.

    Think I’ll hook mine up!

We had no rain yesterday which surprised me from what I saw on the radar at 0500 on TV in Jackson.

  3. Good job Tarrey. Your doctored spoons worked well. I’ll have to get some more stick paint n doctor up some of my NBKs like yours.

When we were fishing next to you we were getting frustrated with no hits but as soon as we passed u in 111 we got one on and  we worked 121’ area as well.

We are doing St Joe again early next week.

    Get ‘em Saturday!

Lost a few spoons yesterday, so just replenished  them with an order to Capt John King.

  4. Went 5 for 7; all kings 8-18lbs.

    1 in 86’, 2 in 111’ and 2 in 121’.

1st was on rigger 47’ back n 47’ down on CJKing Gold Or Crush.

Dipsey on 3 out 150’ and 10C same spoon.

Rigger down 50’ 50 lead GOC spoon again.

300 copper w/2color swr  with mag nbk gr/spoon took one.

lot of nice fish at fish cleaning station!

  5. I agree with Mega Byte, not sure why you would put a dipsey on a board and not sure a board could handle the force. Dipsey holder should be parralell to the water. I don't have them, but the holders you can ratchet up before you remove remove the dipsey rod are awesome.

Rod trees are the greatest invention  since sliced bread. For up to 300' of copper and full core I use standard Off Shore boards. They track just fine.

My friend even uses the Church walleye board  for up to 300 copper and full core n they surprisingly track well; he did move the weight all the way back though.

Your setup looks real good. Enjoy!!!!!!

  6. Only 1 for 4; lost 2 kings at the boat; Capt Dan needs to practice his netting skills.
    Lost a laker who hit the UV Skinny Minney spoon ( one with fish on it) as I was tripping the SB rigger to change the spoon; Capt John Gold Orange Crush took all 3 kings;
2 on same port rigger down 29' with 65' leads.
SB rigger was originally 55' lead length but went to 65' after first king.
Other king on port black dipsey on 2.5 out 100'.
Started dipseys at 55 & 65' with mo hits; so after first fish went to 100' and 120'.
    Speed was 2.4-3.0.
All fish caught in 60fow  running in cleaner water next to very dirty water; the very dirty water
was out to at least 59'; have never seen that before.
Caught fish up hill and downhill. Pretty much straight out from the pierheads. Water temp was 44-45 degrees.
Waves lazy 2-3s that later build up to choppier 2-3s/2-4s when we pulled lines at 1:45.670-0

  7. South Haven buoy number 45168 has been deployed for this year and is reporting wind, waves, etc and lake temp from surface down almost to it's anchor. It also has a webcsm like most of the GLOS buoys do.
Cooke buoy 45068 has not been deployed yet but I would expect it  to be deployed in a week or so.
You can find a summary of all the Great Lakes buoys at
"glbuoys.glos.us. The spread sheet has a summary of conditions at each buoy and you click on it for full data.
Also, you can get instant wind n gusts, air temlp. water temp (surface only) and wave height by texting 866 -218-9973. Just text the buoy number to the toll-free number and text response will be buoy conditiins.
Wishing you a safe, fun 2019  boating/fishing season.

  8. Best depth of water to be over: 28-32
    Most productive troll direction: SE
Depth of hits: rigger 21' down 45' back; body baits down 15'.
Rigger lead lengths: 45' both riggers
    Number of fishermen aboard: 3
Best lures & colors: orange; CJ GOC reg size spoon; gold hot n tot with black back yellow belly and red lip; our usual j9 jointed rapala with gold belly and white stripe on bottom.
    Surface temp: 45-46 degrees
Down temp for hits (if known):
    Troll speed: 2.5 -3.0
Number and kind of fish caught: 1 22.13lb king and 4 coho jacks; 5 for 5.

Started setting lines from pier heads south so that by time we have all 8 lines in  we are at or past water treatment plant.

Trolled in 18-20' past concrete wall; nothing; did SB turn trolling north right next to Dimitri Georges in  his awesome C Dory, "Fresh Fish" boat and nothing there..Sea Eagle had just caught a nice brown in 19' so we made another pass south , but 32-28' on SE troll. Got all fish in there on high line back 60', 2 colors and 22lb king came on riigger down 21', 45' back also on J-9 jointed rapala but on medium light walleye rod; what a battle and fun.

Beautiful day, sunny. lazy 2-3s most of the time out of the SE; started picking up around 12;30; small craft warning is predicted for tonight and tomorrow.

Detroit River Wednesday in mate Andre's boat jigging for eyes.

  9. We found out last year in Erie west basin  that walleye wanted a hot speed also. We ran same 2.4 to 2.9;  4 trips 66 ‘eyes’. Unheard of; walleye speed is always like 1.8 to 2.3 or so. Work speed.

If you get a hit on starborad side while turning left (where SB lures will speed up) then you were trolling too slow. Likewise if port side goes  off on that same turn you are trollong too fast, etc.

The slogan for driving, “speed kills”

    works  for fishing too.

  10. I was going to do South Haven because a Sunday report showed 2  man limit in 4  hours, but I was pretty sure the heavy Monday NNW wind would blow a lot of the warm water (that came up from weekend SW 70 degree winds) south. I guessed correctly; also Fishin Hole said they were in.

Better  get them in next few weeks or so before they move out to deeper water. When they school up real tight in shallows they are easier pickings like walleye.

Most fish were caught between the brown house on the hill to the blue house just before the concrete wall.

Don't be afraid to run a little hot like I said, 2.4-3sog.

    Capt Dan out

  11. Got 3 man limit in 4 hours: 8:30-12:30.
17 for 20; threw back one foul hooked and one on when we pulled lines.
18-20fow; 45-47 degree water; mile south of water plant to concrete wall; sog 2.4 to 2.8; uphill troll (north) and south caught same amount; threw back one foul hooked and one on when we pulled lines; partly coudy to sunny.
Lazy SW 2-4s, to lazy 2-3s to build up chop 2-4s starting around 11:30.
J-9 Orange jointed rapalla, CJ King regular size SUV Skinny Minnie and glo silver spoon with yellow and black ladder (yellow killer) back all took fish.
Rapala on rigger down 10’ and on board out 60’; 2 2colors and lime green size “0” dipsey on 3 back 30’ took fish.
No hits on CJ GOC or White lighting spoons.
Cloudy to partly cloudy; SW lazy 2-4s to lazy 2-3s to around 11:30 2-4 choopy buildup.
