  1. Sorry for the late post, but spent yesterday getting patched up. Went 3 for 4 on an evening trip. First was a 10lb steely on a Budweiser looking White/Red spoon I put down 50' on the rigger as a lark. A half an hour later came a nice king on the wire 115' back, green fly green paddle. He made a hard run to port at the end and I tore a muscle in my arm turning the boat quicker than I should have to compensate. I tried to bring him and the net in, but couldn't manage it. Just got settled when the other wire went (blue fly blue paddle) with a ten pound king on it. I pulled the rod but couldn't bring him in either. So my buddy caught him as well. We stayed in the 120' to 140' range from 5:00 till dark. Other than the medical issues a pretty good night.
  2. Thanks guys. Sounds like west sister is still the place to get to. I remember it being quite a hall to get there, but gotta go where the fish are eh? Thanks again for all the help. I'll post and let you know how we do.
  3. I haven't fished Erie since I went with my Dad over 10 years ago. Now Dad is gone but I really want to try it again. I think we went to Monroe, but it might have been Luna Pier. The wife and I want to get a room the night before, but not sure where to stay or even the best place to go or launch. We'll be trailering the boat from over by Kalamazoo Friday (6/13) night and any pointers on location would sure help.
  4. I was out there also and had the same results. Got to thinking. We marked so many fish (and bait balls) with so few takers I wonder if they were mostly shakers. That might explain all the "hits and misses" Just a thought.
  5. Finally connected. 6 for 9. Two stealies and four kings. 125 to 130 flow, riggers and dipsies had the most takers. A friend wanted to reach me about lead and copper, but one king and one shaker was all we could muster on it. White fly white paddle, and blue on blue, along with flounder pounder glows.
  6. Slow day for us. Set lines at 85 fow and went west to 150 with no takers and not many marked. Turned around and tried a zig zag pattern back to 75...nuttin. Then back west to 220. Finally in 190 got one king around 10lb on a kavorkian on the wire diver back 205. In all that water we didn't mark many fish (or any bait) Thought I must be doing something wrong, but I asked a couple guys in the river coming back in how they did and they said onezies twozies as well. Nice day out though..and it beat watching TV.
  7. After a late start (8:00) from the dock, and working our way around a few boats in the river that didn't seem to be doing much, we set lines at 60' and headed West with some South in it. Nothing until 115 fow and a 12lb King 110' feet down on a chrome jay-plug with a red ladder back. Then went out to 130 fow before turning back in. Headed due East and again at 115' nice ripp on the wire diver (blue paddle and fly) until the line failed half way between the dipsey and the paddle. A few moments later a fair fish one for a bit a bit before he slipped off. (same chrone on red jay-plug) So 1 for three. King was still silver and full of fight. Most fish marked were on bottom (a little cooler?) Hope the weather allows another shot at 'em this week end.
  8. So that Coho must have been hanging right ON bottom eh?...explains all the bottom huggers I've seen on the finder for the past couple of weeks. Thanks for the report.
  9. Went 5 for six from 7:00 to 10:00 three kings and two steelies All fish over ten lbs pole dancer behind a UV flasher and moonshines took em all 90I to 108 fow north troll. Wife caught her first steelhead (13 lbs) and he didnt disapoint.
  10. Fished 4:00 til dark but couldn't figure them out. Found fish in the 75 to 80 foot range and had a few trips but just couldnt connect...guess they just weren't my fish. Did have one trip and when I brought it in the spoon had a lamprey on it. All I can figure is that a fish (with the lamprey attached) hit an got free but snagged the lamprey in the process...I'll try and post a pic but dont think I have rights yet. Also saw the meteor on the way in.
  11. Went 4 for 6. in the am. ALL hitz on michale jacksons...All fish at 45 feet down in 70 to 80 fow. All fish from 12 to 17 lbs. Great fun.
  12. Fished Sat and Sunday. Had a bit of a time of it this week end. Between the weather, my gear fowling up, my first mate crossing lines (and the resulting cross words) was feeling jinxed for a bit. But after the first King (10lbs) went in the box the mood lightened. Set lines at 120' and caught them out to 135'. Had two Pickled Kens down behind Mt. Dews and they worked until they got beat up in a tangle. Yek spoon..forget the name...pink with two dingle berries also took a couple. All in all 5 for 7 ....but hey...beats watching TV eh?
  13. Well done...where do you put in over there? I tried it a year ago (down by the big boat) and chewed up a prop. Is there a better place?
  14. Had to work in the a.m. but managed to get out later. Went directly West of the piers and dropped lines at 100' started marking fish at 130' and by 135' the screen was full. I saw a few very deep and so I dropped one rigger to 115' No sooner flipped the switch and had a release (15lb king) Picked up a few coho and had a few other trips. Lots of fish being marked, and great fun. The bulk came on a sunshine (or pickled Ken) big weenie, had a hard time keeping it in the water, but Ham Bone took a couple too. Also West troll seemed to matter. Still trying to figure out how to up load pics, and I'll attach one when I do:confused:
  15. Did not get out until 11:30, and expected to spend the day learning the new electronics I installed over the winter. But started marking fish in 45 to 50 fow so set a couple of lines anyway. Ended up 4 for 8 (3 Lakers One King) by 5:30. The fish all came at 25 to 30 feet down (44 degrees at the ball and 2.5 mph) the day was flat so direction didnt seem to matter. Hambone took two, Alewife one, and one on a Big Weenie sunshine behind a Moutain Dew. My wife caught her first King (13lbs)...maybe now she'll quit buggin me to go perch fishin all the time
  16. My father passed away a few years back, and just this year I finally found the heart to take the boat he left me out for salmon. It's an old 22' Starcraft with twin 40s on it. She's a bit beat up, and the gear is dated, but (with the help of some folks on this site) we still caught fish. The season is close to an end, but I wil try make it out a couple of more times. I find myself with a feeling I haven't had since I was a kid. That feeling of facing the setting sun and begging dad for "just one more cast" Thanks to the people who run this site, and thanks to all for your posts.
  17. Fog made slow going of it but managed a laker and a king (both around 10lbs) 120 to150 both on an old beat up yellow spoon. Put on another yellow and a nice stealhead grabbed it within ten minuets, and jumped 4 feet in the air before breaking off at the swivel. 2 more hits on yellow, but missed em. Finished 2 for 7. Btw all fish 80'.... or deeper.
