  1. It will be at least another month before I winterize. Been Walleye fishing in bay of Quinte Nov 24th before. I will have to admit though that it was crazy stupid at the ramp. We where fishing a tournament and ever one launched before daylight before they blow the starting horn. It was below freezing but the water was still warm. The water tracked up on the ramp by the trailer was freezing so the ramp became a sheet of ice till someone found some bags of sand.

Also great perch fishing on Lake St Clair. Have had days out there in a T shirt in mid Nov.

do need to watch though for freeze days in late Oct. Current boat is an outboard but have put the light bulb under the motor in the I/O before.

  2. Last fishing trip I went on in the Gulf of Mexico. The deck hands would as required by law stick a syringe into the swim bladder before release.

My lake trout catches are all incidental and I do not target them. The last big one I kept a few weeks ago would not have survived as he took the spoon deep and bleed from the gills. He went to a fishing buddy who likes them on the smoker.

  3. I have uploaded images into the gallery ok, but when I try to copy the bb image code it won't let me copy it. I highlight the code, the as soon as I right click, it un-highlights it and dosen't give me a copy option. Any suggestions.

You need to right click with the mouse right on top of the highlighted text.

  4. You guys are acting like there are only 2 trolling fishing forums in this world. Well there are lots. I don't want to pull lines like some of you are from the other site to this site so I won't mention that I am an admin from another Great Lakes Outdoor site with over 5000 members. I also follows a number of Lake Ontario forums and a number of general fishing sites and some ice fishing site. I try to be a good member on all of those sites. Some have more relevant topic to certain times of the year or certain types of fishing and my participation depends on that as well.

The one thing I find is that all sites seems to have their regulars and the inside groups and the site I admin has been accused of the same and I am not sure how to make an all encompassing site or i would have done it by now.

I wasn't sure where to post this but since Ryan has, and is involved in two sites I thought I would pick on his thread.

  5. I don't use my trolling bags on my current boat a s I shut off the main motor and run on the kicker. But on my last boat I had the bags all pretide with ropes and hanging on the inside oof the boat. When needed I just had to throw then over the side. absolutely no work to deploy. Rope lenghts where all the right length. I never have liked trolling plates.

  6. OMG' date=' you did NOT bring bannannas on the boat.[/quote']

She taunted me with it when she pulled it out of the cooler. The other picture has her sticking her tongue out at me after I told her I was the captain and get that off this boat.

Anyway we did get 3 fish within minutes of that banana so maybe ...... And we got home safe that day.

  7. Got back out to the same spot as Bill and I went to on Friday. The Mrs wanted in on some of the action so the 2 of us set out. Worked the area between 95 to 100 FOW of KP. The Mrs got the first king within minutes of setup. Then it wa alll quiet for the next hour and then it was crazy with a couple of knock offs and a couple of double headers as we both landed a fish. I got a big ole boot of a laker. Much the same as Friday the port side rigger had most of the action. All fish take at 80 to 85 feet of action. No action on the dipsy or the copper but then we where only out for a couple of hours. Fished from 3:30 to 5:30 or 6:00.

  8. A little late with this report but .....Set out with wgillam from Kettle Point this morning. Assuming we had to go deep we set up around 95 fow and planned to go out to 100. Got a rainbow on in minutes after setup. Got quieter after that and only caught 1 walleye and one salmon for the rest of the morning. Then it was all quiet even when we hoped the 2 oclock bite would turn on. BUT after 4 things turned on. I lost count of the action. But looking at what we brought home we must have landed 7 fish. We lost 4 good ones at the boat. We had a number of breakoffs on something big. Bill had one big one that wanted to stay deep which broke the line taking the spoon and the slider as well. Most fish came off the one rigger and the others came off the copper. Dipsy did nothing all day. Two fish came in high up off a slider or rigger at 30 feet but the rest came in at 60 to 80 feet in 95 FOW. A great day to be out on Lake Huron.

  9. We got caught in a loose net a few years ago. Since the net was not tied down we thought we could pull it enough to get 2 of our 3 riggers free. But when the waves started to alternately tighten and slacken the cables they started to spool cable of the side of the spools and then go tight. Whatever you do do not get hands or fingers anywhere where they could get pinched or caught. When the waves pull the boat it will take your hands ofr fingers off. We do have cutters on standby and ended up using them to cut the cables.

And there was no chance of trying to tie any kind of note onto a cable in that situation. Its cut it loose let it fall and be glad you are safe.

  10. I will agree with the other replies. sounds like you need to rebuild the alternator. It should put out over 13 volts. I have also had a slickcraft boat. I had also put the pertronix ignition kit in it. You can use it with your existing ignition parts unless your rotor and distributor should be replaced anyway. The boat ran so much better and got better fuel milage without the points and worth the money on a season of saved gas.

  11. We where there for a while. Too busy for me. Couldn't even get in to some of the tackle booths so decide if I wanted more spoons it would be easier to shop online at home and have them shipped. Got some gear grabbers for holding lures and spoons at the back of the boat. Will make for quick chang overs etc.

  12. Orval, Was that $49 for the app and Great Lakes download?? If so not bad.

I have made shades for my Garmin Sonar, Lowrance 350 combo, and my Toughbook chart plotter. All are sunlight viewable but the shades help a ton. It's like the bill on a ball cap on a sunny day. I made them out of some thin black foam material I got at a hobby shop. I fastened them to the units with sticky Velcro. They make shades for the units but the cost of this was only a few bucks a unit.

the cost was for the area. In my case I bought the US/Canada. Now I can download any map in that area. The only time I would need to buy anything again would be for a different area. Say the Carribean or South America. Its a really great deal compared to buying chips.

The other thing I forgot to add is that I do not have radar so on those summer days that we are expecting a front to go through or expecting afternoon thunder showers I can usually get a weather radar site on the ipad internet. It usually works till 10 miles off shore. The navionics app does not reuired a cell signal to plot youtr position. it will use cells to get a quick fix but then uses the internal gps of the ipad.
