  1. ive been seeing a lot of posts the last couple weeks about silver streak lures...seems as though they are the way to go...ive heard a lot of bad things about stinger and ive had bad experiences with them...a lot of bending and paint coming off...then you call them and they want to charge you to fix it....but i have caught fish on them...what do you guys run?

I do not know how every spoon manufacturer paints their spoons.

This is what I know about the painting process of most spoons.

We need to understand the painting process of spoons, to understand why the paint comes off. Spoon companies purchase most of their blanks already plated. This is usually a copper, gold, or silver plating. Paint does not adhere well to the blanks that are plated. Not all blanks are plated. Spoons that are not plated and will be fully painted will use a brass blank. Paint adheres better to brass. Usually they will use a self etching white primer before they paint the spoons. Etching helps the paint adhere to the metal. After the spoons are primered and dried, they are painted. NOTE: Not all spoons are primered. A spoon that is fully painted will keep its paint the longest. None of the dolphin colored, or translucent spoons are primered. This is why they have the worst problem with paint coming off. Paint adheres better to smooth finish spoons than it does to hammered finish spoons.

To my knowledge, Stinger is the ONLY company that will repaint their spoons. They charge $1.00 for the repaint.

Stinger spoons are the lightest spoons on the market. Because of the light weight of their spoons, you can troll them slower than any other spoon. You can still troll them at speeds of 4.5 and greater. I have had some of their spoons get bent while catching BIG fish. After the fish was unhooked, I straightend the spoon back out, put it back in the water, and caught more fish on it!

  2. After seeing the weather forecast for this weekend, and seeing the forecast for last night, I decided to get off work 2 hours early and get the last trip of the year in. NOAA was calling for 10-20mph winds out of the East with 1-3' waves. When we got up to the boat the flags were sticking straight out from a strong South West wind. We new it was not going to be 1-3' waves for us.

We hit the pier heads and motored out in the 2-4/5' waves to 95FOW and set lines. It wasnt long after we were set up and we were hooked up with our first fish. This was a nice steelhead. It came on a full core with a Stingray sized Corys Bait.

Here is a video of Roy catching the steelhead.

About dark, we picked up 3 more fish to end the night.

One was on a Stingray sized NBK on a rigger parked at 55'.

Another one on the full core with the Stingray sized Corys Bait.

One on a 6 color core with a Stingray sized GLF.

We ended up 4 for 4.

We had to keep the shaker because it was hooked to deep. Greg(Moosky31) was a little hungry and could not wait to put some mustard sauce on it. :D

Thanks for coming along Greg and Roy!

  3. Matt,

I believe all of the dive bomb sizes use the same plug. There are replacement plugs available, and they come in 4 packs. I know D & R Sports in Kalamazoo stocks them. You might want to check witha bait and tackle shop near you that sells Stinger products. If they dont have them, they can get them.
