  1. Thanks guys, pretty excited to get at it again soon. Should be out a few times this week, and then the Door Kewaunee 10 day tickets start, around 10 grand for the big fish. It sure changes your mentality when cash is on the line, but we had a blast. Really makes you work harder and whine less when nothing is happening, you gotta go make it happen.
  2. Do you guys like to run them shorter deeper, becuae you like the action more, dont think they care down deeper, or your afraid of tangles? I have run flashers up to 150 feet back and have not had an issue at any point. I will do this with my deepest line becuase theres really nothing for it to tangle in, also as a general rule I will keep them 20 feet seperated up and down, and like to change the leads by about 30 feet as well so they dont pass by a fish at the exact same time.
  3. Well we threw some money in the hat for our first tournament this weekend, and we finished up 10th out of 44 teams in the kewaunee offshore derby. We had the 6th and 9the biggest fish registerd, but didnt come up with much for numbers. Times were from 6 am let go from the launch to 2 pm. About a quarter of the filed registered zero or no fish at all. High skies, no wind or waves didnt help the mid day bite. We will be back at it soon enough. Heres a few pictures.
  4. l3i41cyO8uo Got soaking wet on the way out but ended up slowing down and having a pretty decent night. Heres the first fish of the night.
  5. 6q02bHVsRtw Probably my funnest morning of the year, it was nonstop for the little while we were out. After the first 5 minutes, we never went a second without a fish on. 1 triple, a double some nice network with one hand.
  6. Heres some action from a morning last week, waves were building and the fish were hammering. My friend got one a downrigger rod that tangled in a fixed slider and took him 45 minutes to land the fish. I landed 4 in that time. Fun morning could have used a few more hands, and the video doesnt show the first couple hits because it was too dark yet. 6q02bHVsRtw
  7. kyle, we were running out fairly deep last week running from 100 to 200, and fishing deep with riggers, then a few days back the wind brought cold water everywhere and it didnt matter if you fished, the water was like ice! Piers were packed and they were getting some kings and rainbows.
  8. Are these things more dominant in certain areas of the lake, because im my area I have never heard any discussion about them.
  9. Another video from about 2 weeks ago, Ended up 3 for 5 on a short morning all kings as the rain and waves cut us short. Had alot of issues this day, seemed that everthing went wrong that could. Good times regardless.
  10. Heres a link to some deep water kewaunee salmon, I think we ended up something like 6 for 12 this day, with some nice fish lost on the riggers. Most of the action from 6 to 8 pm on my buddies boat. Nice to get the early bite going, and a couple rainbows to boot.
  11. Mine are 8 and 10, dials at 1.5 and 3, they will get a lot of seperation and you will have no problems. I ran them this way a ton and never had a problem. Now that I have riggers I don't run doubles, I go with 2 riggers, 2 divers and 2 boards.
  12. Never tried it and i think if you did your gonna get way too much drag, the boards gonna run very hard or its never going to move out to the side like it should. You would be better off running leadcore, copper, or I like to use snapweights up to 8 ounces. Also you might want to look into a 40 jetdiver or a torpedo. These will all work and can get you down to the same depths as a standard dipsey but outside of your spread. good luck
  13. I am in kewaunee wi, straight east of green bay.
  14. Took 2 bows and 4 kings last night, missing 4 others that were hooked up for under a minute. All small fish in shallow with the biggest going 10 lbs. Good to see some little guys though, and we let some of the quicker landings go for another day. Half core, weighted birds, and dipseys up high with glow spoons all working. Also took my first fish on a fixed slider spoon.
  15. kens theory is right, run it right down the chute thumb it once in awhile to make sure its running up high like it should and not sinking into your dipseys if your not driving very straight. Then attach the board and free spool it until you know its behind everything else. Tighten it up and it will swing around into place, you might want to reel it up into line once it gets out much wider than your heavier inside core. If your really worried about any of this give it a shot at 10 am when most people are quitting, its a great time to try some things, and set lines in tricky spots. Too much pressure getting fancy at 4 am at go time. Good luck. I had 4 hits on my half core with a double orange crush last night.
  16. Yup break away flasher, bout 2 at a going out of business sale last year for 3 bucks a pop. Here I thought I score and 11 incher for a steal only to get home an realize I now had to turn around and get my flasher everytime I land one....no thanks. I had planned on punching a whole for a permanant split ring and seeing if it had a decent action.
  17. 1VwRusfcN1o Video is from Memorial day. Lasts about 3 minutes, and has a couple real screamers peeling line. I had never set a downrigger until this week, so 3 fires in 15 minutes was pretty exciting to me. Especially the minute and a half reset on my 11 inch flasher.
  18. Totally agree with the earlier post by nailer. Until recently I was running 2 dipseys per side in a small boat with no problems at all. My rods closest to the transome were about 8 feet and were set on 1.5 letting out something like 80 feet of line. The higher divers were set on 3 with more line out than the deep divers and also on a 9.5 foot or 10 foot rod. Putting them on 3 with more lines sends them way off to the side and gets you some left and right seperation. My rod holders are im guessing 18 inches apart. Once I started running them this way I never had anyproblems. Now I have downriggers so im running 1 per side until I get 2 more rod holders mounted or find 2 really skinny pretty girls to come along with me so im not weighted down to get out 9 lines. Also I always let the click and drag take my dipseys out slowly, then go work on the other side and eventually setting up riggers when they need to be tightened up. Slow makes then cut out right away getting them fare out left and right, this is especially important when setting and outside dipsey with a flasher/fly.
  19. 4iRHS7Gm2ho 3 fish in about 15 minutes right after sunset. Little chaotic but we got the job done.
  20. Might as well just get them all over here in one spot becuase I will continue to post reports here. lJ2BrE6PZvs uieImnch2Zg smZEml2TEQc
  21. -qCaGaqmOIM Heres an odd laker from later morning a few days ago.
  22. I am in a 16 foot mirrocraft. Really fishes well for 2 guys, and sometimes 3. Issue with 3 is overall speed of the boat in case we run into some weather. I actually like it in a small boat adds a little chaos and intensity to the moments.
  23. Been getting out pretty consistently with these calm seas and some free time. 3 to 4 fish has been the norm, last week it was a mix of bows and kings, this week lake trout have been common. Even took a king in the top 10 feet on a 2 color leadcore in 100 fow. Heres a link to some action from early in the week including a nice 16 pounder for a rookie. smZEml2TEQc
  24. uieImnch2Zg 3 for 5 the next morning loosing a 4 yr old chinook at the boat after 20 minutes of reefing on the lb ball and another dipsy screamer ripped the hook clean off of my favorite spoon. Enjoy. This ones about 3 1/2 minutes
  25. Lake Michigan trolling for Salmon with some pretty fast action, and a lamprey lJ2BrE6PZvs Length is about 5 minutes
