  1. Hello Robert, depending on how deep you are fishing will determine how much weight. When I am in Lake Erie it is no deeper than 30 feet so I use 6 lb balls. In lake Michingan Im fishing for salmon and can go very deep. I just purchased some 12 lb shark shaped cannon balls. You get a little less blow back with them. Frank is right about the switch it is a rocker switch. Up is up down is down and off is in the center. Just practice with it a little you will do fine. Have your crew practice also. If you have not mounted them yet this might help. I got mine a little too close to the side of the boat so when I launch or tie up I have to be careful because the switch hangs out over the edge of the boat and can hit the dock post. I have broke one so far.

    Hope this helps.

  2. I was hunting my Uncles Farm in Dexter Township on Saturday morning November 22. At about 08:30 after a short series of grunts this 9 point stepped out. After a 70 yard shot with the Thompson Omega he was a birthday gift.

I took it to my local taxidermy to have it capped. Once I got it home and hung it up in the New Garage. It weighed 163, without the head, antlers and cape. I estimate it was around 180 dressed.

    Biggest deer I ever took.

So far this year I have a spike and a nine point. Still have a doe permit left.

    Good Hunting

  3. I have fished whitefish in Muskegon a few years ago. Like Frank said it was during rifle season. I used a long rod and swedish pimples, and hopkins jigging spoons. I tiped them with a little piece of baby shrimp. A wax worm would probably work too. I fished in front of the Coast Guard Station. Good Luck.

  4. I also have a Depth Raider. I put it on about a year and a half ago. This past year we caught more fish than ever. It really helps you to eliminate unproductive water and target where the fish are. You are also able to identify underwater currents. I use it every time I am out for Salmon.

  5. This was the best year I have had since I started serious salmon fishing about 3 years ago. I think one of the main reasons our season was so good is I required my crew to read Keeting on Kings last winter. That and we learned the value of sharpening hooks. I am looking foreward to next season. I am done for this year. Time to get the bow out.

  6. Fished the morning bite on Labor Day and set up straight out from the port of Manistee in 140 fow at 5:30am. Brad, Pat and I (Larry, Moe and Curly) set 4 lines two Dipsey Divers on Power Pro and two down riggers. Our glow meat rig on the diver picked up a fish and the Area 51 on the diver took 3 fish. As the boat traffic started to build we left that area in search of quieter water and set out some lead core. 2 full cores, a half and a 3 color. The full core with the superman j-plug took 2 fish. The 3 color with a DW Steelhead Cocaine took two steelhead. We ended up going 10 for 14. 7 Kings, 1 Coho, 2 Steelhead. We just kept picking away at the fish. Finally we decided we also had to drive home today so we stopped at 01:00pm.

    Here are some pictures.
