Took my dad out this morning, passed big red about 8:00.nice and calm motored out to 160 and set lines 2 riggers ,2 wire dipseys 1 3color and a 150 copper.Marked a lot of fish around 100 feet down,trolled out to 220 and no takers,turned to head east and at 190 a rigger parked at 80 went 3to 6 pounder on a brads wonder bread.continued east at 175 ft Dipsey with a brads mountain dew fires fish gets into the 150 copper and gone.Now we are not marking much so head back out to 200ft. turn east again and sure enough hit 190ft the other rigger at 110 with a BLLmixed veggie UV. goes 3to 6 pound laker netted.Turned back around to do one more trip east through the 190ft mark and we grabbed another 3to 6 pound salmon on montain dew brads, ended the day at 11:00 and went 3 for 4

Not an expert by any means,I just switched this season to wire and have had some of the same issues.What I was told and have learned is to use a snubber after your dipsey,This will help to give a shock relief upon fish hit.Also the drag set as mentioned above is good just set so your dipsey is held in place it might click out every once and a while is good(don't tighten down like a rigger).Now think about this,When you have a fish on, the wire has no give at all,now the give is coming from the snubber,rod and drag.When the fish runs or pulls hard that will max out your snubber and possibly your poll leaving just the drag to stop from pulling his lips off.It is very hard not to tighten drag on wire because you get such a great feel and fish seem four times bigger when fighting than what they are.I have found it best to leave the drag alone of even loosen it when pulling it out of the holder.This has helped me ,I sometimes forget I fish because I love the fight not how fast i can drag them in. I switched over to wire this season and love it!! When you get your first fish on it you will not believe the feel of the fish on it,you can feel every little movement.As posted earlier resist the temptation to tighten the drag to soon let them tire a bit first. They also don't seem to be as bad with the sea fleas. Enjoy!!

Took my Retired Dad out fishing for the first time this season,Not much to report,1for1 about 12 to 14 pounder,The good thing was it was on my new wire dipsey 160 ft back. Love this stuff, I grabbed the pole and handed it off,This thing pulled out a 100 ft of line in seconds. You can really feel the fish on this Blood run wire.My Dad got tired and I got tofight fish for a while. Mountain Dew flasher and mountain dew colored Brads cutplug.This was in 110 feet of water just south of the pier heading East. Nice Flat Lake!!

Big Weenie, I love there product but really like the way they give back to the sport by giving good solid helpful advice on what is working where and when..I used one of there vibrating flies alone on 300 copper and caught fish, I love the action of this fly.

Sorry I should have stated I am fihing lake Michigan out of Holland.

I have been fishing only about 5 seasons and don't get out near enough.What happens is I am not sure where to start and don't what to over run the fish so I put out lines and start trolling west ,Watching the graph and depth raider for temp. If i get one i will run that depth north or south for a while. What I am slowly getting at is ,Should I troll North west or south west.Is there a givin direction that works best??

I purchased 2 of these last year to try,first time out started fishing at 8 in the morning Not much going so I started trolling for the channel it was about 11 oclock (First one went on rigger) landed that and then the other went on the other rigger. So you guested it I went and purchsed some more. So far not sure what to think,I keep one in the water all the time.most times 6 rods out. The one thing to remember you won't catch any with these if they are in your tackle box. Only been fishing 5 years so still learning,just felt like adding my 2 cents . I am adding wire dipseys this year plan on trying them on there .

Ok guys thanks for the help on the 1000ft of blood run wire on my convectors. Now Should i use a regular rod and replace tip with a twili tip or go with a roller rod?I already have a couple regular okuma rods.Not a Charter boat just go out around 15 to 20 times a year.I take that back I go to the end of the pier 15 to 20 times.Hate when its to wavey to be fun.

Another thought is what I am going to do this spring is to install a solar powered motion light above my boat parking spot at home.Hopeing this my stop some wouldbe gas or equipment thief.

Dave I am trying to remember if Ace in zeeland has Aluminum pieces ,I now you can buy Steel tin pieces up to 3 or 4 feet there(The New store),Also Lowes has some pieces. Don't forget to get to know your companys Maintance staff,They my have scrap pieces or maybe able to help with drilling holes and such.

The outdoorsmen on baldwin st. in jenison has them,just picked up 2 today $8.50 each .They are a buck off at there sale through saturday. I'll give another plug to them ,big fishing sale now through saturday

Brian When I started out I was in the same postion in you are in.I waited on riggers and fished a couple seasons with no riggers.You will be spending money on lots of things in your first couple years(rods and reels,dipseys,copper or lead,planer boards etc.)This will also give you chance to see how well you like it and a chance to learn and catch fish on boards and dipseys.The 2 big reasons I added 2 riggers was to add a depth raider which is a temp and speed measuring device.Did I catch more fish when I added riggers? No. Because I usually fish with 1 other person so adding riggers meant removing two boards or dipseys. What I love about riggers is when you do get a fish on one they are close to the boat and the fight is great.If you get the same fish on a 300ft. of copper(very product for putting fish in the boat)after about have way in he is spent and your pretty much dragging him in. P.S. don't be afraid to ask all kinds of questions, the fisherman on this site are great and very very helpful.I have only been fishing 6 years and still learning thanks to these guys.

Thanks all for the tip on the wire spinning on the reel ,that would be a real surprise out on the water.Is wire depth much different than braid?

I received a couple Okuma convector CV30D Reels that I am going to put Blood Run wire on. To save money sould I use a backer? if so how much and what? or would it be best to just dig a little deeper in the wallet and spool with all wire?? is there a depth chart for wire and a luhr jensen #1 dipsey? Thanks for your help!

Here are a few things I saw or learned the hard way. When letting out copper ,let it out very slowly and with drag on lightly or thumb on copper on spool or it will bird nest in a split second.I saw a freind spool up a 10 color lead core in sections. 3 colors then a 3 ft piece of mono then 2 more colors and piece of mono and then the final 5 colors.This gave him 3 choices on 1 rod and reel. Remember clip your board to the mono and not on the lead or copper. I was also taught to let out the lead or copper until the knot between the backing and copper or lead is in the water,then clip on your board.Sounds like you are well on your way to fishing fun and spending more money.

Started in about 70 fow and headed west,Got to 110 fow and rigger popped, great fight out of a 12 lber.stayed around 110 and nothing else happened ,did not sound like any body was doing much deeper and had not seen much on the graph so started back to the channel. Marked very few fish until i hit 60 fow and then saw a half dozen fish come into view at 30 ft. right about were my riggers were set.Turned to look at the rods and just as I looked one went.It seemed to be a pretty good fish by the fight ,got him within 10 ft of the boat and he got off,.I did not have a chance to set a point in gps but tryed to follow my trail but could not find them back.Fish came on a grean / yellow lure.

I also had plastic rod holders I had purchased from cabelas,Salesman told they would not break! When installed and used there was a lot of twisting action going on and it looked like a break was sure to happen,Switched these out for Berts track and ratcheting holders, they work great!!

Fished in the holland steelheaders tourny sat on friends boat.ended up with seven fish in the cooler!I took along six or seven of my favorite lures and glad i did. 4 fish came on my double orange crush gold plated spoon on half core.After this went off a couple times started looking through hundreds of lures to find gold plated spoons with orange on them. found one that had orange tape in the center with the gold plating around the edge and back,this took one on a rigger 30 down.We had put a( chilly willy) orange and cracked ice chrome spoon down on rigger 50ft. took one. We also took one on 300ft. of copper on a modified blue dolpin,he broke our orange streak.Lost one on a large white paddle and fly near bottom,and had a dipsy release with no line taken out, Fish?? we where all over but 6 of the 7 came in 130 to 190 feet of water .Was very fogging but believe we were south of Holland.

I think I see what you all are saying.a flasher dodger really needs to be out there somewhere ,wether on a rigger or a dipsy to bring fish into the spread.Most of the times I had none out.I would quite often run both riggers clean with spoons or plugs, 300 copper,a full lead core, a half core and three color lead.mostly spoons sometimes a spin doctor and fly on full core or copper.That was my starting point until release at a givin depth then would target that depth.I have depth raider as of last season,love the thing!! should this rigger be the one with a flasher fly combo? They make a silver sharpie now and I wrote the core number on the bottom of the reel.I really like the tape idea to see the number from the top.We could put a piece of tape (any color)around the pole and write the number on the tape on the top , side or bottom.Thanks Mike

Thanks to all for the help.I do have braid on my dipsy rods.I think my big problem with them is i got frustratated with them from the start either I would have them to weak and they would release on there own and get into another line.Or they would not release at all and you might know what it is like to pull in a unreleased dipsy. so I purchased different lengths of lead or copper to target the dipsy depths.Most of the time it is me and one other person so 6 poles in the water.So I should have my deepest rigger with a flasher /fly combo?? length from ball?? flasher to fly length?? Are you all catching fish on dipsy's because of the depth they are set at or because of some other reason. Could I do the same thing with a lead or copper rod with a flaher/fly setup at the same depth? WOW that is a lot of questions.Thanks a ton Mike
