  9. Rigger rods get clipped until there is only about 700ft left on real (based on the line counter) if less then replaced. If it happens to last into the next season then so be it. (Most of the time it doesn't) Dipsey rods 50lb Fins BBS has been on my reels for 3 years; and I am now replacing. Didn't have any break-offs on the superline during those 3 years. Lead core haven't replaced the core yet been fishing them for 3 years now. Leaders behind dipseys get checked for nicks after every fish, replaced as needed. Leaders on leadcore get checked every time we let them out, replced or trimmed as needed. I fish an average of 30 to 40 times a year. To me the biggest thing to do as a recreational fisherman is to check the line as its going out if you feel a nick in the first 20ft or so cut it off and re-tie. We only loose about 2 to 3 fish a year because of true line breakoffs. Fish running across lines is another story...
  10. I love the Sub Troll that I got 2 seasons ago. Never had a problem w/ it. Can't speak for the others cause I have never used them. I like it even in close during harbor patrol. We've passed by boats in the river going up the river and boats have passed us coming out of the river. It takes the guess work out the down speed. We were catching and they were fishing. I guess they didn't realize they were only moving at 1.? mph or 3.? mph.... I would recommend spending the money for one...
  11. Struggled really bad today. Had 10 bites by 9:30 and then nothing; packed it up at 11:00 am. Ended up w/ 3 in the boat; of the 7 lost 5 of them were gone before we could even get the rods out of the holders. 2 kings 3lbs to 5.5lbs 1 coho 2lbs 1st Hit 98 fow outdown rigger 50 down. 12. Best troll was a north west troll that day but we had hits going south east also. Never really trolled direct north or south....
  13. Speed at the lure (SUB-TROLL 900) was 2.25 to 2.5. Dipsey rods have 50lb power pro on them.
  14. My first line out is always my down rigger with the speed & temp probe on it. That way I know for sure I have the speed correct and can tell if the water tempurature is even worth fishing. Some will say you don't need the temp probe for the spring, which I agree; but it sure is nice to know exactly how fast that lure down there is actually moving do to underwater currents and waves above.
