    2 - CV30s with 1000' wire for dipseys

    2 - CV45L with 5 colors lead

    2 - CV45L with 10 colors lead

    2 - CV55L with 300 copper

    16 total.

Sounds like I need to add - 150 copper at least and maybe some others.[/quote']

Really now. Can you ever have too many rods, and reels? I don't think so.

  2. QUOTE=pmjasper;87153]I think I have about 21 reels strickly for trout and salmon trolling.

It's all well and good until the wife starts counting them, knows how much they cost and knows you didn't have any before last June when we got the boat.

  3. Here's the rest of my arsenal. I thought we were just talkin wire, and copper. All are Shimano Takota reels(600's, 700's, and 800's) on 8' & 9' stainless eyelet conventional, or 9', and 10' roller rods.

I'd sure hate to find out the price per pound of salmon after all the $$$$ we spend on tackle, gear, boats, etc.

    45# copper

    1 - 200'

    1 - 250'

    1- 300'

    1- 350'

    1- 400'

    1- 450'

    Leadcore

    1 - 5 color

    1 - 7 color

    4 - 10 color

    2- SWR's

    diver rods

4 - wire roller rods w/Blood Run wire

    4 - braid

    riggers

    4 - 20#

  4. I have one port-side Berts rod tree I'd like to sell. Holds 4 rods. Swapping it out with one with a swivel base to make it easier to get in my slip. Shoot me a PM with an offer if interested. Cash only. Pick up in the Zeeland area, or we can meet somewhere in the Holland/Zeeland surrounding area. Tree is one year old. Also have two Berts weight holders, and a Frabil landing net for sale. Again, PM me with an offer, or questions, if interested.

  5. Boat horns, I HATE them. they get water in them and are toast. I put a new one on four years ago and mine is shot again. tested with another horn for my buddys boat and swith and power are fine. So i decided not to buy another one for 40 bucks and instead got a handheld electric horn from cabelas. 20 bucks and i am legal. Doesn't sound like a boat horn but this thing is louder than my boat horns have ever been. As often as i have needed it i decided this was the better route. I think the only time i ever really used it was during a courtesy exam from the Coast Guard.

I had the same problem with my electric boat horns. Electric horns SUCK! I swapped mine out with a set of Wolo air horns that are louder than hell. My 28 foot boat sounds like a large motor yacht. Comes in handy when you get inconsiderate boaters, or jet skiers that cut close in front of you in the channel. Gets there attention.

  6. the st 70 all done just alot of wire pump to computer power clutch sea talk back bone wires 4 ts 3 spurs and a power wire for sea talk just a lot to figure out they supply you with very little had to buy alot more stuff .... doing the auto learn this weekend for the big splash killing the browns eastern lake o 5 days tick tock....

That's for the progress reports. It should come in handy when I install mine next year.

  7. I am going to be trialing some Torpedo tips shortly. They are very similiar to the Aftco tip, with one very neat improvement. With the Aftco, the tip can swivel as the rod tip twists and the wire can still find its way off the roller with inexperienced anglers. The Torpedo tip has a small guide on the incoming side of the roller, and the same type of after roller arm guide. It will be tough for the wire to get out of that tip roller, even with rod tip twist. It is also priced much more reasonable than the Aftco.

Well I'm not an inexperienced angler, but I am new to fishing with wire. Just bought my first set two weeks ago. Will see how it goes with the swivel tip. I was told the swivel tip was made by Fuji from the baitshop where I bought them in Saugatuck, but I can't find that style anywhere on-line. I'm wondering if it's Aftco since they're Shimano Talora roller rods.

  8. I am purchasing one of these Items and would like some opinions on the 2.

Not sure which one to go with they both have there pro's and con's. I do alot of salmon fishing in Lake O, Lake Huron and Georgian Bay.

I have read many reviews on both of them.

I have a Moor Subtroll on my rig that I installed last year. Went and bought an X-4 a few months ago too. Plan on running both to do a comparison.

  9. Name: John S.

    Age: 42

    Residence Location: Zeeland

Area(s) Most Often Fished: Port out of Holland, Saugatuck, Grand Haven, Port Sheldon

    Years of Experience: 10

Boat Size and Info: 2003 Baha Cruiser 277 GLE

    Boat Name: Docked Wages

Started out salmon fishing in 2001 when I bought my first new boat. I had a 17 foot Lund Fisherman with a 135 Hp Mercury Optimax, and a 6 Hp Yamaha kicker. Fished this boat for a few years, and then kids came along. Wife thought boat was too small so I sold it and saved up for another larger one. Fished on a buddys 14' tin can in the interim pariod. Found a boat two years ago that met the wife's requrements, and my needs which is my 28' Baha.:thumb:

  10. I have the talora rods and love them. Never had any issues. In saying that though I bought them from a friend at a very good price and don't know if I would spend that kind of coin on them from the store though I think they're worth it

I hear ya. I thought long, and hard about spending that much, but like I said I wanted something that will last so I opted for the Shimano's.

  11. it does not damage the rods. the two guides are similar material to what Tony is using for his Eyeful wire rods. The Daiwas do seem pretty hard to come by. I just found some on Ebay to add to my arsenal at a pretty decent price. I think the lack of demand is the reason for mot being able to find them.

I just bought two 9' Talora roller rods with the Fuji tip set up with the Takota 600LS reels and 1000' of Bloodrun wire. Very pricy, but I want something I know I can count on. Can't wait to try them out. I have my eye on another set same configuration except on 10' rods. Not sure if I want to spend the coin on them just yet. Too many other things needed to get the boat ready for launch.

  12. Some excellent suggestions and information here. Now, here's another question I'd like you guys to weigh in on, if it's ok with propman? How many nets do you normally have on your boat when out on the lake? And, I'd still like a quote on the fancy net, just in case, thanks. P.S. Ranger prides it's company on American made nets, not foreign.

I keep two Ranger fiberglass handle, wide hoop nets on my rig. I don't like the telescoping kind so I found the one piece handles. Love 'em! I was debating about filling the handles with spray foam so if they did go in the drink at least they would float, and I wouldn't be out $$$.

  13. I have a Ranger Salmon net with the extendable pole. Its been great and its actually my second one. If someone wants one I can give you the GPS coodinates for my first one. You just need to figure out how to snag it out of the bottom of Lake Erie. Oooppps. It was actually a buddy of mine that dropped it off my boat.

    Been there, done that.

  14. Where can you order a long handle salmon landing net. Propman ( 9to 10ft. reach)

The Outdoorsman in Jenison has nice fiberglass handle nets. You buy the handle and hoop seperatley because you can get anywhere from 8 to 10' handles. I have two on my boat. Very durable. :thumb:

  15. Just a quick question, how do you know when you have enough grease in them? I put the grease gun to them, and after 1/2 pump they won't accept anymore, so I think they are full? I've never had bearing buddies before, just the regular bearings which I hand packed...

Also, do I need to take them apart to put/pack in new grease? The trailer is about 3 years old and I've never had the bearings apart or any problems. Thanks guys!

The type I have on my trailer have a grease fitting, and when you fill the reservoir up the piston moves out. There's a little "pee hole" that allows excess grease to bleed out so the bearing seal isn't compromised. Don't overfill them though you will blow the seal.

  16. I had a boat just like that a few years ago. It was a 2001 Lund Fisherman with 6 Hp kicker, and a 135 Hp Mercury Optimax. Top speed was 60 MPH. She was a fishin machine for sure.

  17. Going to remove the paint off the hull, any tips? I tried a small spot with a brush and some comet scrub, didn't work so well. I went over that with 1500 grit wet sand paper, worked but couldn't get the paint out of the small scratches. I borrowed a power washer which I don't think will get it all off, any tips? Would like it to be bare fiberglass.

Just keep in mind that bottom paint is toxic in particulate form (i.e. sanding). Safety first, be sure to wear propper PPE like gloves long sleeve shirt, goggles, and especially a respirator.:thumb:

  18. Two words, COMMON SENSE

That's one thing our country is currently in short supply right now. Anybody that serves in our military willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for maintaining freedom deserves citizenship.

  19. 4300 in damage :(

Waiting on the insurance to see if they will cover any....

Damn! How hard did you hit the sand bar? I ran aground on Lake Mac once when I was a newbe, and didn't know the lake. Luckily I wasn't going very fast, and was able to free myself. That sucks. Hopefully your insurance takes care of you in time. Good luck.
