I need some advise on copper vs wire rigs. Which one is better, and why? I spoke with someone at Gold Coast yesterday, and he said copper was a pain in the butt, and wire was the way to go. I've never used either yet so I'm looking for some feedback from the group. I know wire, if kinked, is pretty much toast, but he said copper wasn't the way to go. Can wire be used on anything other than dipseys?

The Talora rods that are said to have this problem have the stainless steel eyelets not the ceramic. I was told they were breaking right off the mount, but Shimano was working with there supplier to get it fixed.

No I meant to write Talora, but accidentally wrote Takota. I purchased a few of these rods, and haven't used them yet. I know they have a great warranty, but was curious on how many other people had this issue.

Check out www.fishingrodstuff.com. There are a few pics of the twilli tip on there. It appears that they just take the pressure off the top eyelet to prevent excessive wear.

My name is John, and I am an avid great lakes fisherman who, at the moment, is between boats. I'm planning on upgrading from my last rig (a 2001 17.5' Lund Fisherman)which I sold a while ago due to an expanding family to something bigger, but want to see what the economy does this year. I've never used copper, or lead, but I've added several of each to my arsenal for when I do get my boat. My wife thinks I'm crazy for buying fishing equipment when I don't have a boat yet, but it's easier to buy a little at a time then a lot at once. I came across this site from a friend of mine who goes by "Plum Crazy", and I have to say it's nice to see a chat room tailored to fellow fisherman.

Thank-you. After reading several posts on this web site I feel like I'm in good company with a substantial knowledge base in salmon fishing. Glad I found this site.

Have any of you guys experienced eyelets breaking off on the Takota rods with stainless steel eyelets? I heard this was a chronic problem for Shimano, and I've been told they've corrected the problem. I recently bought a few of these rods, but haven't used them yet so I'd appreciate any feedback.

I believe it's the wire that needs the special rod. Special meaning a roller rod. I was told you can run a Shimano 600 LC with the wire. I was also told, please correct me if I'm wrong, that you don't use a backer with wire only a mono leader. Not sure why this is yet, but I'm digging into it.
