  1. Anybody use these? If so, what do you think of them. I've heard a lot of bad reviews about Okuma saying that they're junk, poorly designed, and don't hold up well. What's your take on them? I run Shimano Takota's, but found a set of these Okumas that look pretty sweet, but not sure if I should get them.

  2. We were fishing out of Muskegon in June and had one cut across the back and take out my 200,250,300 coppers, lost all boards and tackle. I only salvaged the backer which was power pro and did not break right away. That sail boat received a very friendly visit after pulling all the lines. I am pretty sure he understood how stupid he was and that was a costly mistake for him. Besides this incident I have had to use my large airhorn 3 other times for sail boats cutting across the back within 150'. None of these had sails up, all under easy control of a motor. I really really dislike the blow boat folks. No respect........

Losing that much gear to an arrogant sailboater would warrant a healthy dose of whoop-ass. Just make sure there's no witnesses.:thumb:

  3. IF YOU CAN AFFORD CANNON MAG 10S I JUST GOT A SET AND I LOVE EM THEY ARE FAST AND THE AUTO STOPS WORK VERY WELL WITH NOTHING ON THE CABLE . i HAD BIG JONS BEFORE AND THEY ARE JUST FINE BUT THE AUTO STOPS NEED A BEAD ON THE CABLE WITH A CRIMP AND THAT JUST INVITES A SNAPED CABLE . JUST MY 2 CENTS

I have two DigiTroll IV's, and a Mag 10 on my rig. I'm partial to Cannon's, but the other big brands are good to. I actually line my Mag 10 better than the DigiTrolls. Very simple to operate w/no programming.:thumb:

  5. In the early 70s a big foot supposedly was taking clothes off a guys clothes line at night up by Hughes swamp and as teenagers back then some of us guys were actively hunting him until we came really close to shooting a black angus cow in the spot light at 3 in the morning. There were a few other things involved that could have slightly impaired our judgement. We still joke about hunting the big guy.

  6. I usually wear a long sleeve shirt and blue jeans and a 6 inch high shoe. While dressed like this I invite people who wear t shirts, shorts, and flip flops. For the the most part the flies are attracted to the invited bait, and I can go about my business.

    :lol::lol::lol:

  7. yea and they seem to target the lower legs, little suckers are trying to take you down, somthing with deet should do it.

I know it's some sort of acidic liquid they use to disolve their food (i.e. your skin), but they feel like they have teeth like piranhas.

  8. Ive heard guys using their Thermacells with some success. I cannot confirm nor deny its effectiveness

I've tried the Thermocell, but the problem I had was breeze. The wind would blow the "smoke" away, and make them useless.

  9. Anybody know of a good repellant for keeping those damn black biting flys away? :mad:The little suckers have a "bite" that hurts like hell, and they really seem to swarm you when you're fighting a fish. I was told Skin So Soft with Picardin from Avon, but have yet to try it. Anyone have something better?

  10. anybody know where I can find the big body down rigger locks for the cannon Mag 10's. I searched the internet and they are discontinued. Somebody somewhere has to have some.[/QUOT

The new style, or old style Cannon's? I'm assuming the old if they're discontinued. I have a brand new lock (still in the box) that I ordered a while back not knowing that it wouldn't work for the new style. Let me know if your interested. Just pay what I paid ($32.99) + shipping if you want it.

  11. If anybody found a Z-board (Big Daddy) around the Saugatuck area in 200-250' of water I'd like to talk to you. I lost one this weekend along with 350' of copper. Expensive loss so I'd really like it back if you found the board. Thank-you! Please PM me if you found it.

  12. Yes, I slip in Holland and spend as many weekends as possilble out on the water. I'm in Yacht Basin Marina. When in my slip I can sit and watch all the activity at the public launch.

I think your boat is located on the same dock as mine at Yacht Basin. What is your dock number?

  13. Alright, I need some advice. Is it worth buying rod trees if I can only run 6 rods and the occasional 9? or should I stick with mounting a rod holder or two towards the front of the boat. More often than not I'll only be able to run two boards, so I need to know if its worth spending $150 a piece on two trees.

    Flyboy

I can save you some cash on at least one tree. I have one that I replaced with a swivel base that I'll sell at a fair price. PM me if you're interested.

  14. Sounds like I'm going to be out fishing basically all day tomorrow. In the morning I'm going with some of the family and a guy from work (from our Mexico plant, he's never been fishing or on a boat before). In the, I'm taking a few of my buddies out. Hopefully the fishing is as good as it has been for the last couple days. If you are out there give Ben 'din Rods a holler.

Better load him up on Dramamine if he's never been on a boat before, or it could get messy.

  15. :no:Some people are just plain lazy, and to some it's easier to throw stuff overboard rather than carry it to a trash can. I see quite a few mylar baloons floating in the water too. It's a shame some people don't take care of our precious resources.

  16. So I'll give and update on the progress. As it always seems to, it's going slower than I had hoped. The main thing is that I have 95% of the wiring complete and the little I have to do still won't take long. I also have the seats back in the boat with all of the tears fixed. My goal is to have the boat ready to hit the water by Saturday, although that will be tough. The main thing is that I would like take her out for a shakedown trip before the WMFL event next Saturday :o

    Some pictures of the progress:

    img_3777.jpg

Two of the seats had major tears in the corners with foam spilling out and just looked plain ugly. I tore the seats out to take the carped out and took the covers off to get them fixed. Came back and I couldn't be happier with the results.

New Wire Route (wires were running under the wooden hatch cover before, keeping it from closing and pinching the wires)

Yogurt Flies to field test :)

A few other things I remembered while I was typing.

First, as far as trolling bags go, what size should I be looking at if I want to run one per side. I am probably going to have a lot of novices driving the boat and want it to be as easy as possible so I'd like to run a bag on both sides when I run them.

Second, as far as naming the boat. I found out the boat did have a name before "Pete's Treat". Since it doesn't fit at all for me I'm not even considering using it. The two names that I have sort of narrowed it down to are "Rod Ben 'der" because it describes what I do for work and what I do for fun. The other is "Right Angler", which my Mom suggested and I like because it goes with engineering that I am studying. What do you guys think?

Being an engineer myself I like the "Right Angler".

  17. Just saw on the news, they are asking the question if he received the proper burial? Really? Did the victims of 9/11 get a proper burial? ***HOLES!

I believe he did deserve a proper burial. Dumping his bullet-ridden carcass down the sh**ter seems proper doesn't it?

  18. I have a port side Berts rod tree for sale. 1 year old. Replaced with a swivel base version to make it easier to get in my slip. Also, I have a Frabil large hoop net (I believe it's 6' one-piece shaft) perfect for smaller boats, and two Berts ball holders. If you're interested shoot me a PM with a reasonable offer. Just want to get rid of some stuff. Prefer not to ship the rod tree. Cash only. You pick up, or we could meet in Holland, Zeeland, area.
