  1. It works. Good tip is to splice about 200-300 feet onto your regular line. Pretty rare that you'll go more than 300 feet out on a rigger and it will save you some dough. I moved over to 30 lb big game yrs ago and have styed with it. Just don't try to run a slider when the fleas are super bad like now

  2. Launched at 5:30 and pulled lines at 11. 3 for 5

12lb steel blue jackal 40 down

18.5lb king 200 out green 10 inch spinnie meat rig

11lb laker right on the bottom with UV death weenie meat rig

    sog 2.4. East/West current

Fished mostly straight out from 60-150. All hits between 100-115. Surface temps 68-71. Most radio chatter spoke of the 100fow area

    Fleas were very bad

  3. All that I expect is help with gas. $20 is fine. I don't have a regular crew but most of the people who fish with me realize it isn't cheap. I don't expect anyone to cover tackle, boat payments, insurance etc. They didn't buy the boat, I did. It has gotten to the point where I just tell people to give me what they feel is fair. Most of them are my friends and we always spent time argueing, I always thought they gave to much. So now whatever they hand me I just put in my pocket and don't even count it. But all I expect is $20 and I tell that to everyone who goes with me. Oh, and kids always fish free.

Same here. Other boat owners I try to keep it simple and figure that trips on each others boats end up working out in the wash.

  4. Must have missed those conversations, with all of the different methods to present lures they are only as successfull or useless as the person applying the presentations. If you run a surface program when the fish are 60 feet down you probaly wont catch many fish maybe crows:thumb:

Yup it was a couple years ago when a lot of people were getting back into 30-32lb copper because Blood Run and others were making the super copper. Hell there were a couple years before that I couldn't find 30lb copper in a store. Guys were saying why not just use shorter sections of 45lb instead of wasting time on 32. The reply was it always seems to catch fish and it's much easier to deal with. Well now we see there is basically a negligable difference between 32 and 45 on depth and still a big difference on ease of use and the options it opens up for smaller reels or more backing.

I'm not saying running 45 lb is not a good idea. It just pissed me off that guys were treating others like idiots for even suggesting the use of 32.

  5. Set lines in 180 fow at 5pm. Went out to 230 and then back in to the 160's where we hit a 18 lb laker on a White paddle and mirage fly 150 down.

Picked away at a couple coho and a king until 8:30 when the twilight bite kicked in and we took 7 bites until pulling lines at 9:45

Temp was 48 out deep. 50 degrees at 140-120. Our best water was the 160's and 130's.

125 32lb took 4 hits with a super slim orange DW

Wire dipsey out 140 took 3 hits with a clear UV paddle and mirage fly

Full core with Blue bubble flasher fly took 2 hits

300 32 lb and 300 45lb each took 1 hit (forget the spoons)

Hot lobster down 53 took 1 hit

Ended 8 for 13 with the pig laker (released), couple of mid teen kings, 2 twin 10lb kings, cookie cutter 7lber, and 2 ho's

  6. I don't know if I'm posting on the right forum here, but heres my question. My Islander will not track straight while at trolling speed. It weaves side to side, requiring constant correcting with the steering wheel. There is a small amount of play in the steering, but I don't know if this is the problem. This occurs even when there is no wind. Any ideas on this?

Used to have the same issues with my islander. I cut down on my drinking and the problem went away:D

  7. Lines down at 5:45 up at 11

Worked 75-150 fow. "Best" was 90-100 early and 150 later

Best direction was SW at 2.8 SOG. No temp gauge. Ended up 6 miles south of the piers

Bite was very scattered for us. A couple here, a couple there. Ended 7 for 10 with a small steel and 6 teener kings,

No hits on dipseys. 5 on riggers and 5 on lead. Paddle took one hit/ SD's zero. 9 on variety sized/colored spoons

One thing of note. Marked LOTS of fish and bait everywhere. Lots of streakers coming for a look and not biting. Fish were absolutely stuffed with 5 inch alewifes. I cannot remember fish stomachs as extended as the ones I have seen my last 2 trips
