This is will be a bi-weekly Saturday tournament series. You can either buy in for only pike, only pan fish or both. The Payout schedule is for 1 event (If you where to only buy into only pan fish for instance)
In the case of if there is a payout to more then 1 place, but only 1 legal pike or only 1 place of legal pan fish is kept then all names will be put in a hat and someone will draw the remaining payout places.
Here is a list in order of the lakes we will be fishing. (Dates to be added when safe ice hits)
Bass lake (ne Kent county) (1st good weekend of ice) (no size limit on pike on this lake)
Tamarack
Big whitefish
Muskellunge Lk
Reeds
----------------------------------------------------------
Engelwright lake on the free fishing weekend (pike only)
This is not hosted by me and will be talked about as it gets closer.
---------------------------------------------------------------
10$ for pike
10$ for pan fish (crappie perch and gills 6" or bigger)
all based on length
RULES
Pike is the biggest legal pike caught.
Pan fish is total length for best 10 fish.
Pan fish will be to the closest 1/4 inch.
In the event of a tie the biggest fish will win.
No pan fish under 6" will be measured.
All measurements are final.
Must pre-pay before we start or have stated you are running late and must come right to me before fishing.
Hrs Will be 6:30am - 12:00pm
Weigh in is at 12:30
Pay out schedule.
# of guys 1st place 2nd place 3rd place 4th place

This schedule will be used for both types of tournament.
All fish must be measured by me or someone I appoint.
I will have a 2 way radio with me and have 3 others someone can borrow (or if you have your own bring it) so I or a judge can come and measure your fish for pike only. All pan fish must be measured at the weight in.

yes u can use live bait... there is a great lil thing bout it in this months woods and water... but i would suggest using a 3/4 hopkins, Sweedish pimple, buckshot, kastmaster, or kastmaster knockoff. best colors are gold and silver........ let it go to the bottom and jig it SLOWLY! about 6" to 1' off bottom.... u will see guys jig fast and they are just snaggin more fish then biters...IF U GET A BITER ( in the MOUTH not just the head or near the mouth BUT IN THE MOUTH!) look at the fish before keeping. If it had scars of being snagged THROW IT BACK! no fish is worth losing ur fishing rights over. start at the coast gaurd station right by the building u will get fish! GL
ps the DNR are out there in force! they do not have to see u snag the fish when they look at your fish if they have scars u will get a ticket for snagging so just be smart

Glad to hear it Mike gonna play around with a couple ideas this week will let you guys know how they work and if you can grab me a couple of them spoons. I looked around a couple places and can't find any over here. How did Jay do with his Buckshot glow and broken rod?

No problem Jay we should try a little pre dawn Steelhead with Nick next weekend if weather is better. Would be a darn nice time to get a few Whites then move to the other peir and grab some Steelies.
i am down for that

Met up with Jay again this evening we started the evening fishing oposite ends of the peir I was fishing out near the light and he was in front of the old Coast Guard station. After people started to thin out I moved down near him and his wife fishing was hot and cold but we had a blast I landed and released around 10 fish and Jay and his wife easily caught over 20 they left with 3 nice keepers. I have no idea how many fish I hooked up with and I was shaking them off as soon as I knew they were snagged. They were not hitting as hot as last night but we saw several females show up and last night they were all males. We both had several big fish that had to go back foul hooked. What a blast on ultra light Steelhead gear for me I could have snagged 50 or more if I tried but I held my ground and only landed the ones I could not shake off except for a couple that pulled like freight trains so I was not sure what they were till we landed them. We came close to having a few triples going and were fishing around some great people helping each other out and no complaints everyone seemed to get along and work with each other. A couple of younger guys showed up and were trying to rig their poles so I offered them some extra stuff and they were catching fish and having a blast right away. They were really suprised when I gave them some new spoons to fish with all I said was your welcome I lose lures all year long so it don't matter to me if they get stuck in a rock pile or help someone else have a good time fishing. Jay and his wife knocked off several nice fish with the net they said they were trying to let me catch up with them. I didn't stand a chance they were hooking em fast and furious at times then we would get a lull in the action for a few min and then right back into it. It was a great night and no one had to see a doctor Jays wife was getting cold so we called it a night. If we do it again I will bring my heater I brought my lantern but it would not light up so I left it in the car have to fix it tommorrow.

once again it was awsome fishing with you jim! the wife had a great time and Thank GOD we didn;t have to go to the ER again...can't wait to get out after them again!
-
i will be out there also tonight
-
And yep he just called to see what time we could meet tonight and do this again well everything but the hook in eye part. I did warn him last night on his way home from the hospital that if he had to wear a patch he was gonna have to fish with GLF next year on the pirate boat.
lol they had to cut off my mask because the hook was in it so i went to gander and got some more spoons and a new mask.... big jay will fish hurt, cold, sick, it don't matter... and oh also i got some clear high spped boater glasses also.... don;t wanna lose my right eye!
-
that looks VERY PAINFUL, on a side note did you guys bring any fish home
we caught almost 30 fish with 4 being "legal" in about an hour and a half (we got there about 830 and this happened just after 10) the spoon in my eye was the HOT TICKET! got 2 back to back 3/4oz kastmaster in gold! i wanna get back out tonight if anyone is willing to go
the 4 that where kept were given away to other fisherman!
-
i feel like i went 10 rounds with tito ortiz man my face hurts today
-
So I went whitefishing tonight with Waterfoul and 1 MAINIAC out to Muskegon. The fish were there and we were really catching them. Then I jerk back and scream "oh my eye!". I had snagged a fish and was going to just hoist it up by the braided line when the hook popped out of the fish and yes... lodged itself in my eye! Lucky for me it "only" got into my eyelid... but two hooks were thru to the barbs. Well waterfoul and jim rushed me out of there (thank you to all of you who helped carry our gear to the car... if any of you are on this site). We bumped into a couple of DNR officers on the way out and the younger one about freaked out!! He was more tramatized than I was!!! Anyway, once we got to Hackley they brought me right into the E-room and set about trying to get this 3/4 oz Castmaster out of my eyelid. So they (waterfoul, couple nurses, doctor, and a cute EMS trainie) are all standing there looking at it wondering how to get it out. Another nurse comes in with... get this... a Leatherman!!! Yes, you read that right. A Leatherman!! I about stand up out of the bed and leave the hospital!!!! Waterfoul almost fell down laughing. "No way are you using a leatherman on me!!" I yell!!! A few minutes later the doctor returns with a really cool looking hand cutter... seems he "borrowed" it from the Operating Room. One good snip and the hook was cut... then he backed out the two hooks that were caught and put 3 stitches in. Time from door to door was maybe a half hour. Nice job by the staff at Hackley, except for the leatherman guy!!
Anyway... check it out...

I am heading over tommorrow night Jay planning on a early start want to get there about 4:30 pm. I will dress warmer but I don't really like to fish by myself so did not stick around long last night. I have a long handle net so I use 8lb Maxima same setup I Steelhead fish with in the river and piers just use the Kastmaster spoons. I have yet to catch a legal Whitefish sure would like to actually see the lure in ones mouth.
i got your number saved! iam 100% coming but i have to pick my wife up at 6pm so i wont be there till 730ish....
