  1. Yep first we tax and spend till all the decent jobs leave then we have to create new taxes to replace the money we lost when the jobs left. And as the jobs leave more people become dependant on the Government to support them which means simply put we led the country on education reform with the teachers unions to the point we have the most expensive education system and the lowest test scores. Our children leave school with no jobs skills or work ethic and are forced to enter trade schools or go to college to gain any useable skill. We led the country with a 1 state recession for years now at least the rest feel our pain. What we need to do is elect me for Governer and I will personally guarentee that I can fix this State in 1 year. I have a simple plan we don't spend money we don't have we won't borrow money we can't pay back everyone will pay the same tax rate and we will compete to bring business back to MI. Our Unions did great things for the American worker in the 40's and 50's but then they turned to politics and criminal acts and are now somewhat of a blight on us. They strangle both the worker and the business and support policies in Gov that are against us and only serve to make them and the Government stronger.

    Ok I will shut up!

No don't shut up now your on a roll, and i totally agree with you.

    You'll get my vote

  2. Sadly MI is even dumber than most when it comes to Government remember it is a 3 county state the other 80 counties don't count when making the rules.

Unfortunatley you speak the truth. Thats all grandholm cares about is making her welfare fraud friends, that reelected her in, happy.

  3. Exactly my thoughts slipknot, I was just wondering if this was a state thing or federal thing and i think i have found my answer on their website. I hope the legislature in mighigan has more sense than some of the other states.

  4. neucleus the olny problem i have with the cannonballs with the fin bent is if i am running four to six lines off each side it is easier to tangle a dipsy when the cannonball is pulling out to the side like that. We used to always run bent fins, but i don't anymore with running all the side lines.

  5. Ok As to split rings they fail I look at every connection between the fish and me as a point of possible failure and the more I remove the better. Split rings are easier to connect to and I have left them on a few spoons but not many.

Typically the line fails and breaks first. As far as a failure point i have not seen many fail in the close to thirty years of doing this. second it also changes the action of the lure by removing the split ring. making it a slower action. this may be ok on some days, but the design of the lure is to include a snap ring. With the snap ring the lure achieves the proper action. So do i take them off? Never!

A lure that has a snap ring i run it with on. a lure without one can achieve the proper action without one so i do not add one to those.

  6. I'll take a stab at answering your question without a diagram. For your downrigger i run one rod on it to the depth i want it set to, with mono. Then you take a piece of mono 6-10 foot in length i usually use 8 ft. tie a snap swivel on both ends of the mono. Attach the lure to one end and then the other snap swivel to the line from the rod going to the cannon ball. pitch the lure ver the side and it will run down the belly of the line and stop somewhere in the middle. Or you can let the cannon ball donw 10 to 15 feet take a thin rubber band tie a half hith with the rubber band on the line from the rod pass the snap swivel through the loop in the rubber band the attach it to the main line. This will peg the lure in one place and when a fish hits it will break the rubber band. One thing to remember when a fish hits a stacker there will be slack till the snap swivel gets down to the lure on the main line so reel reel reel till you feel the fish. the lure on the main line will stop the stacker traveling down so you want to make sure that you use a snap smaller then the luer on the main line. 1 rod per rigger is what i run

  7. Very nice rig, and nice job on resetting it up.

I do have a question for ya,

I dont see many rod holder on the side. Do you guys over there use many boards and lead core or copper, or many diver rigs.

I love the radar arch i was thinking of adding one, that could give me a place for three more holders.

  8. i think one of the reasons some guys say, espically newer fisherman to salmon fishing, "my arms were killing me after ten minutes" is the hand you hold the fore rod grip with, people hold it tightly. this causes fatigue. Think of it as you are shooting a bow try and keep your hand open or loosley holding the grip. I'll bet you notice a HUGE difference in the way your arms and back feel after bringing in several fish.

  9. Outdoors man in jenison is going to be having their spring open house the first full weekend in march (like the 7th). They run some really good deals before the fishing show. also gold coast runs an open house the same weekend and they run some awesome deals on spoons. They open at 7 and there are usually a few guys waiting to get in to scarf up the new years colors. check them both out for wire rigs. DONT go to gander and buy them. they dont spool enough wire on them i made that mistake a few years ago and noticed they still spool them the same way.

  10. Never really noticed drag issues but i have also changed from church boards to offshore sst boards (if you are going to buy boards spend the extra 5 bucks on these) which pull harder to the side with heavey lines, but even with the church boards i didn't notice any real drag. As of two summers ago i got into running copper through a friend and this year am personally done with leadcore. But to get into copper it requires a little more skill and knowledge than lead core or the backlashes will make you want to chuck the rod and reel overboard. But i have increased my fish catch running copper. Hey to the OP if you want to go out with me sometime and see how i am running it i can take you out and show you. I try to have enough people on the boat to run 12 rods. 6 copper 2 dipsy and 4 riggers. or 4 copper 4 dipsy and 4 riggers. I have a cruiser also mine is only 23 feet but i have 16 total ro holder on the boat. I would be willing to take you out and show you sometime. send me a pm if you are interested. I fish out of port sheldon or holland most of the time. We are going to start in benton harbor (hopefully) mid to late april. I then move up the coast as the fish move. and possibly ending the season in ludington.

  11. Dive bombs attach to your line with a rubber peg that you pull out slide it over your line then push the rubber peg back in. The large lip of it goes forward and is supposed to kind of act like a diver pulling your line down deeper with the weight and plane of the dive bomb. They have them available in 1 2 3 and 4 ounces. I only use the 2 and 4 ounce ones. They will help you get a little deeper without adding more lead core. The way they are supposed to be used is let about 2 colors out and attach it. I let my leader out and then attach it to the leader before i let any lead core out.

here is a link to a video showing how to use them:

  12. I tried the eagle claws at first also. half season and they were off the boat. I now have two 8'6 and two 10' Blue Diamond roller rods set to run divers they work very well and are a little stiffer in the but section to get out to the side of the boat more.

  13. My brother Dad and I will be at the show both saturday and sunday. My Dad works for MUCC so he will actually be there all four days. What days and approx times are people going to be there maybe we can plan a lunch at the fish fry and get to know some people face to face instead of just on here.

  14. Thanks for all the replies after looking a bit at prices i think it is going to be the depth raider or the subtroll for price point. Now just deciding between the two of those. Outdoorsman in jenison ( just about around the block from my house) says they are going to have the subtroll at their open house for the best deal they will have all season and i really dont want to spend a fortune on one. Any other comments are welcome as i am going to be checking back.

As for sharks they make a great difference in the water and cabelas in dundee was closing them out. don't know if they have any left but the 10 lb were 15 buck and the 12 lb were 24 bucks. that was in the middle of summer i was there though. wish i had bought more of them when i was there.

  15. do you guys that have these units usually leave the probe on all the time?

do all units probes cause about the same amout of blow back?

the cable has nothing to do with blow back on the units requiring cable? basically if not using a probe do you get any blow back?

can you use any release with them? i use walker releases.

  16. Ok i am wanting to put a device on the boat that gives me speed and temp at the ball. I am looking at a depth raider or fish hawk. what is the better of the two and is there any other options. For the D.R. i have walker downriggers. How hard is it to rig the DR to the downrigger?

  17. Just wanted to say thanks to everyone on this board. Found it this spring and has been a valuable resource, and met some nice people through here. I decided to pull my boat for the season becasue of hunting season starting up soon, and i messed up my rotator cup in my right shoulder. i want it to get feeling better before i try and pull my bow. I'll check in a few times this winter, but just wanted to say thanks. If i dont talk to anyone on here through the winter, see ya next spring.
