  1. No twistin. Jus make a U shape and pull it into the end till it kinda snaps and gets past a small lock.

i use walkers also. this is the correct way to use them. We have been using them this way since the early 80s. if you wrap it 2 times it will not release properly. but if you do the U shape and pull it in they work great. when the release is set right you can pretty much pull anything, and have very positive hook sets. On my friends boat he uses Blacks/walkers. The cable terminator with the blacks release. They work great also. i am just lazy and dont like twisting the line. we have tried rubber bands and didnt like teh mess with them. Also melting rubber band in the cabin was a pita to clean up. Either of the walkers would be a great release.

  2. thanks everyone for the info. i got very lucky turns out that i just busted the hub loose on the prop. so a new hub and a quick repair and balance. 120 bucks and it is all fixed. thank God i wasn't running hard otherewise there would have probably been more damage. They pulled the access covers drained the outdrive pressure tested it, and everything looks good. So it is now put up for the winter. I can't wait till spring to get it out and run it again now.

  3. thompson 24 hard top. my dad had an old one and it was a great boat. could fish anything in it. Thompson is building the 24 hard top again with no wood in it. i had a link it is www.thompsonboatsdirect.com . they kept the same hull and depth(very deep safe boat) and it handles well. They are going to be coming out with a 26 foot in a couple years. I have been talking to them quite a bit over the last few weeks, and think when my truck is paid off i will have a 24 footer in my yard. Hands down if i had to make a choice it would be the thompson. sportcraft a quick second.

  4. So tonight was the last trip of the season for us. The boat ran fine going out trolling all evening until i started back in to port. I have a bayliner with a 350 chevy engine and a volvo penta aq series outdrive. After running in almost to the pierheads at 300 rpm the engine reved up and the boat just about stopped in the water. I tried to throttle up a little and all it did was rev and only move at 2.7 mile an hour. We made it all the way to the docks and when i put it in reverse it poped right in and had great power in reverse. when i put it back in forward it just kind of started moving very slowly ahead. if i tried to do throttle past just putting it in gear all it would do is rev and not move any faster. Any ideas what is going on with my boat???

  5. good luck guys i will be pleasure fishing, if you can call it that. I have my father in law and my wives nieces boyfriend going out with me neither fish. At least i will have my dad behind the wheel. and maybe just maybe my brother can get back in town to work the back of the boat with me. what ports are you guys going out of? what has worked for me tha last two trips out have been green dreamweaver jplugs with a black ladder back on a 300 copper.

  6. well as figures two of my team guys cant fish this weekend, and my wifes family is coming up from ohio. I am still going to fish but not a tourney with three people on board that have no clue what they are doing. At least i wllhave my dad to drive this weekend, he isnt stable on his feet anymore but still loves to be out there even if it is driving most of the time. Good luck guys that are fishing it.and maybe i willbe out there with a bunch of rookies.

  7. there was a little boat in front of Port Sheldon pier heads wed night and all i saw to know he was there was his fish finder. i turned and went around him. 16 ft row boat with no lights. then when waiting in line to get out i saw three more boats with not a light on. I agree with the saftey check idea.

  8. Went out of port sheldon at 7 pm and set up in 90 ft. went on a south troll and went 8 for 12. Most productive was a green black ladder back dreamweaver j plug on 300 copper. the rest came on lemon ice green glow prospoon pearl j plug adn a couple other spoons with green that i have no idea what the name was. two nice kings around 18 lbs and the rest were average size. Best water was 110 with riggers from 65 ft to 80 ft. and 300 coppers.

  9. the mono between the braid and the copper will also show you when it is getting worn. braid doesn't show wear and just breaks out of the blue.

I am going to try something that the tackle shop in saguatuck talked my into trying. It is the torpedo diver to get you deeper. He said it works great and you dont have to have all the different lengths of copper. All you do is let all your copper out then attach this to the backer. check the chart for speed and depth you want to fish and let out the amount of line the chart shows. He said they don't add any more noticanble pull on your planer boards. I will see on sunday as i am going to try them out. for example a 150 copper fishes about 40 ft. let out all the copper attach the musky size torpedo diver and let out 78 ft more line attach your board, to fish at the depth of a 300' copper. there 18 bucks each instead of a new reel and spool of copper. you can also fish a 300 ft copper at the depth of a 450 copper for about the same extra line out. they make different sizes to achieve different depths.

  10. that really does suck.

I saw a news report at me parents a few weeks back. What the criminals are doing in the detroit area is stealing gps units plugging in the home address and then going to the home and robbing it. Keep a watchfull eye on the neighborhood.
